Title: Magical equine creatures invades Omnimaga
Post by: Juju on January 21, 2014, 12:10:45 am
This week, the Omnimaga staff began the restructuration of its official IRC network dubbed Omninet, a network aimed to be specialized in programming and graphic calculators.

However, since the first days of the restructuration, magical equine creatures known as ponies has been seen under the hood. Indeed, Derpy and Fluttershy, two pegasi (winged ponies) from the mythic town of Ponyville, Equestria, has been given operator access on the network, the latter even owning one of the servers linked.

DerpyBot and SweetieBot, robotic copies or respectively Derpy and Sweetie Belle made to be responsive 24/7, and one of the princesses of Equestria, Luna, has been seen on the network as well, with SweetieBot taking up the channel administration duties.

We are still unaware if the ponies are only here to help or they secretely plan an invasion or a coup d'état from Equestria on Omnimaga. Omnimaga, as we know from its -maga suffix, is an important producer of magic of all types, a resource Equestria extremely values.

Software is being written by Eeems to help manage the different servers and statistics software has been installed with stats on all the channels created, its users and plenty of graphics updated real-time. The chatbox on the header of the site is also linked to both Omninet and EFNet. While our official IRC channel is now on Omninet, the link to the channel on EFNet is still being maintained for the foreseeable future.

The current Omninet operators are Eeems, Geekboy, Sorunome (Derpy), Alberthrocks, AngelFish and Juju (Fluttershy) and the servers are {omni,eeems,irp,saphira}.irc.omnimaga.org.

But again, back in the days, the server #omnimaga was on was ran entirely by members of the draconity fandom or at least big dragon fans. :P

For the record, Saphira is the dragon from the Eragon books. I often name computers after either dragons or female anime/cartoon characters.

Too bad my provider doesn't want me to host a public IRC server :P

Never read the 4th eragon book......
anyways, I totally forgot what i wanted to say.

EDIT: Oh, right, you should make it more geek-ish: /^(omni|eeems|irp|saphira)\.irc\.omnimaga\.org$/

EDIT2: Oh, and what kinda bot is SweetieBot? Self-programmed? Eggdrop?

Err, actually the regex would only match that value, {omni,eeems,irp,saphira}.irc.omnimaga.org would return every single one of the results (Try echo {omni,eeems,irp,saphira}.irc.omnimaga.org in bash)

Please please please never get rid of efnet connection, efnet is awesome and I kinda have other channels I sometimes use. Easier to have it all in one place.

I don't think the EFnet chan is going away, else someone will most likely take over it then make his own Omnom bot anyway (that links both channels). However, even if staff keeps it, all the bots will be hosted on Omninet, so I'm unsure if commands like !tibasic will still work from EFnet (they probably should, if they already work from OmnomIRC)

Wait, what is the !tibasic command? O.O/me guesses you mean @basic which is currently offline

The staff here despises ponies. That's why I wrote this news to be pretty ironic.

They are very tolerent though, so they won't hate you because ponies.

There is a very vocal sub-group of the members that love ponies. A couple are staff. Most of us either don't care or dislike/despise the whole MLP thing. Omnimaga is a very tolerable place though, so as long as you follow the rules and are nice there will be no problems.

PS typing on my TV is slow :(

Aah... those times where I saw ponies on the internet and laughed at how immature I thought these fans were...
Let's just say I've gone through a lot last year.

Those fans might have been the ones from 4chan actually, which is where the whole MLP craze started. A lot of MLP fans who go elsewhere are as mature as the rest of the users in general. For the most part, it's more like people who like anime a lot and go to conventions, except with the 4th gen of MLP instead of anime. I don't watch MLP, but from what I've seen, the 4th generation is much better than many crap they air on TV on kids channels since the early 2000's.
