Title: MaxCoderz revival?
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on February 05, 2011, 11:54:50 pm
It seems that the MaxCoderz team are currently working on a new front page (http://maxcoderz.org/) for their website, using the same layout as they did from 2003 to 2005 (http://replay.waybackmachine.org/20040921225207/http://www.maxcoderz.com/), although the banner is different. If you have been in the TI community for several years and decide to check their front page now, prepare for a huge flash back. The difference is that news and projects are fetched directly from the forums. Unfortunately, several of their old releases, such as Final Fantasy: Tales of Magic and Phantoom Star, are still missing from the products list. However, they still haven't posted a news about the return of their front page (the last news post is from 2009, about a competition that ended a long while ago), so the site is still probably in the works.

We hope to see their past history re-added to the site and that after the redesign, there will also be some projects updates there again!

If we're going to have a full revival of the calc community, MaxCoder's gotta be there.

Hopefully we can watch it grow again :)

Yeah, it would rule if it worked on many sites. First, Omnimaga re-opening, then Ticalc.org hiring new staff along with Kerm/UltDev becoming active again on Cemetech, all 3 sites activity increasing, more recently Revsoft, TI-BD then UTI (although RS is still kinda slow). MaxCoderz has a lot of history, it would be nice to see them active again, even if not as much as before. When I compiled forum posting stats for various sites a year ago MaxCoderz was leading 2005 by far. Afterward they lost their domain name and took their main page down, along with all downloads, so most people couldn't find the site anymore. :(

To be far most of those UTI posts where due to JBB posting non-sense stuff about the nspire.  ;D Though I do see increased activity at least at RS and UTI. We are both coming up with ways to bring people together.

Ooh, I still need to join MaxCoderz. I didn't even know about it until this year!

Yeah true, plus a lot by Xeda. A few people being active a lot can bring back or attract people, though, due to the activity, unless JBB posts would actually scare people away. (like some posts by other people 1.5 years ago) X.x.

The issue with MaxCoderz right now (the same since 2006) is that their domain name change was never advertised anywhere in  their readmes and such things. I suggested it in 2007 when I returned from a hiatus, as I saw the site activity drop considerably, but to no avail. :/

By the way here are the approximate post stats of several TI boards over the last 6 years attached to this post. Those who haven't frequented some forums for a while or are newer will have an idea of how active some sites were at some points. MaxCoderz used to be the reference for ASM programming help and games. Then you can check out Cemetech/Omni's 2008 crest, followed by a regain of activity. I am certain that with some effort (and without posts such as JBB's, no offense to him), sites such as UTI/MC/RS can thrive again. RS is not dead, though, because some staff are still working on projects. It just doesn't get many posts.

By the way this image is out of date. I didn't feel like checking boards again for their respective final post of 2010 ID and the like. I might update it eventually. It says Dec 22nd but I think Omni is even more out of date, because considering activity was lower during holidays, it's nearly impossible that we went from 83K to 87K in 9 days then. O.O

Yayy i really hope they become more active, I used to check Maxcoders periodically, but they sorta died down... hope they can come back stronger than ever :)

I have posted about BatLib on MaxCoderz... >_>
Right now, my bookmarks menu have the first six slots as calc websites... it's kind of fun keeping up with 'em all :D

Who knows? Maybe one day I'll do like back in the days and post on like 6 forums every day. :D I'm not sure, though, since I sometimes barely keep up with Cemetech and UTI. I might just have low activity elsewhere.

On a side note I'm still 6th in the top posters list there. O.O (although I bet I would be lower if that included the original MC board (I had 1100 there, but many staff had close to 2000))

Glad to see this spark interest, I know I lurk between RevSoft and MaxCoderz a lot.

You're the one who caused 15000 spambots to sign up to Revsoft? O.O http://ourl.ca/3967

Hehe same here, I forgot about it until I searched Google for some stuff, then ran into it. I was shocked at the many bots there and when I saw it had close to 30000 posts, I said "Fake news time". This turned out to be the second longest Omnimaga fake news ever, too, behind the fake TI DMCA notice for usage of Keyfont73 in Omni banner (and the first fake news in over a year). :P

Me too as you could notice.

But there aren't any members there except staff (benryves and sometimes tr1pe1a) and lurkers like us. :(

I don't know...I was posting a lot in that time frame.

Lol, but I checked the daily post stats and most days we were between the low 200s and low 300s. Earlier that month I remember there were 13 300+ posts days in a row, although the highest ever activity was in Early November.

I thought you said 13,300+ posts per day O.o

I think I'll make an account too now. Just to join in the fun :D

Nah I really meant a streak of 13 days with at least 300 posts each. That was the record too, by the way. For 200+ posts I think it was 153 days or something.
