Due to episodes of plagerism (such as this person (http://absolix.newgrounds.com/)) on our music, we have decided to restrict access to our MP3s. From now on, only the radio will be available to guests. To download the individual mp3s you will need to register a forum account.
-
Yuk, people who plagiarize sicken me >:( sounds like a reasonable change to me!
-
I totally agree with Builderboy.
I despise plagiarists, especially when they get away with it.
-
Good idea, DJ! Down with plagiarizers! >: (
-
completely agree with this move... cheaters shouldn't be allowed to use others' music and depict it as their own.
-
It's too bad stuff like this happens.
Hopefully this change will keep people from visiting Omnimaga just to steal our songs (as well as those mp3 web-crawlers)
-
Yeah. I know some ppl migth simply sign up then steal the stuff, though x.x. Some people are ready for everything :/
I wish the dl section allowed me to setup post-count-based permissions per category.
-
:P What about making the entire download section unavailable?
-
Nah I don't want that. After all, CalcG, Ticalc and Cemetech downloads sections were always visible to guests. Most visitors come here for news and downloads and on UTI, people did not appreciate to have to register to download attachments.
Just the music section as well as the video section should be fine. On the old board, the music section was turned OFF to guests in October 2007 (the final 3 months) too, but back then it was for bandwidth issues (the songs were hosted on United-TI, at omnimaga.unitedti.org, and UTI only had 45 GB bandwidth per month, which we almost maxed out once because of a web crawler that grabbed Techno Strike MP3 link)
-
Hmm....what about setting up a forum board just for the music? You can restrict forum sections to specific ranks, right? Probably more work than it's worth though :P not a bad change IMO
-
Nah I doN,t feel like changing the entire download section for music, plus we already have a board for music made by everyone anyway.
-
Well, after my Newground account got hacked 3 times (somebody changed my password, despite me choosing secure/random ones, and one of those incidents was earlier today), since in the future I plan to sell my electronic power metal songs, I decided to take no chance and wiped everything I could out of my Newgrounds account, in case this happens again and that I lose control on my songs. Whenever I uploaded stuff there it just got overran by zero-bombers voters anyway.
Also I would prefer that those 7 songs, unless my sale plan fails, no longer remains in Omnimaga archives as medium/high quality download, same for any other site, which means I edited the files with lower quality versions or previews and added a Youtube link.
-
! wow that guy should be banned
-
Well as you can see, our music is still in his account and I reported him twice over a year ago. Yet they did nothing. This and the vote bombers (people who vote every new song or any non-mainstream stuff 0/5) are reasons why I lost respect towards NG over the time.
-
What will happen to Omnimaga radio? Will it go away too?
-
It will remain intact since it doesn't provide direct MP3 downloads link.
-
Okay. :)
-
Radio is and always should be free.
But yes closing off the music section to guests makes sense. Cuz they're not like calculator programs publicly available on for example ticalc.org

At least that Absolix guy *sort of* credits you for your songs now, with an [OMNI] tag in the title on this page (http://absolix.newgrounds.com/audio/). You should try reporting him to NewGrounds again, pointing to this as evidence that it's your music, and that you have full rights over it.

For some songs, not all, I guess.
-
I'm not sure if it really credits the songs really. Because many people still believe it is an original work by Absolix.
Some other songs also have [] tags. could they be from somewhere else too?
Anyway, he should be reported or the community made aware of his actions.

The songs that have [ABS] tags look like they're are songs he stole from Nitacku, like Hadron and Journey.
He also didn't put [OMNI] tags on all the DJ songs he stole, and actually put {absol} tags on a few of them, like Frozen Danger.
-
Oh wow I'm giving it a close look again!
He even copied 9108AD. This is terrible
Anyway the [] and {} tags look like "albums" in grouped songs
-
He actually used to be called Omnimaga Absolix IIRC. In the past, someone uploaded my songs on his account supposedly to give me more popularity, but that was after he got caught, else I bet he would have tried to steal them. From what I saw, Newground has plenty of thieves. I wouldn't be surprised if Absolix's most recent songs were stolen work too, else I am sure he would have taken down the rest.
-
I wasn't really aware that Newgrounds was a music showcase site, only knew about it having lots of flash games.
Yeah his latest songs don't look more credible either.
-
Yeah it's for both actually. I wish each song had a flag/report button like on Youtube. In any case you can always review all the stolen work and comment "This was stolen from DJ Omnimaga/Nitacku/etc" and rate the files 0, although he has so many uploads so that might be hard, not to mention that might not even do anything and he's gonna reupload them through another account.

Ironic how it says
Attribution: You must give credit to the artist.
Noncommercial: You may not use this work for commercial purposes unless you make specific arrangements with the artist under another license.
Share Alike: If you alter, transform, or build upon this music, you may distribute the resulting creation only under a license identical to this one.
"You must give credit to the artist"
sounds like the uploader is generally not uploading his/her own work and has to acknowledge the original artist.
