Ndless 2.0 Beta now available as executable
« on: February 25, 2011, 03:19:41 pm »
Those who had troubles compiling Ndless 2.0 can now rejoice: Ndless 2.0 Beta has been released!

The two major missing features initially planned for this version was the compatibility with the touchpad area and a native keyboard/screen-based console.
I don't own a Touchpad to be able to implement the first one (relying on emulator tests may be unsafe for hardware-related features), but its temporary mapping to the numeric keys makes this missing features less a problem. The second one is on its way but far from being ready.

I have unfortunately been unavailable during the last two months, but the list of improvement requests and minor bug reports keeps growing. Some TI-Nspire programs such as nDoom have drawn much attention to Ndless 2.0, and more and more Touchpad users without technical skills are annoyed to not be able to build Ndless and use them on their calculators.

The release of OS v3.0 is imminent (isn't it already noon in Dallas?) and Ndless may require a significant effort to be updated for it.

Since I'm not sure how available I now will be, I have decided to move v2.0 to beta cycle to be able to ship a release very shortly since no major issues has been reported in the past few months. Open issues and suggestions will be posted in the next few days to the issue tracker (feel free to add yours if I missed them).

This will allow me to focus on high priority tasks for the next release if I'm able to free up time for the development of Ndless. I will gladly accept any contribution for any of the issues, and may open the repository access for active contributors to make things easier.

The latest Ndless v2.0 beta is available here: http://bytecode.fr/miscfiles/ti/nspire/ndless-2.0-beta
Please do not distribute any copy of this file since it may be updated regularly during the beta phase. Prefer to share a link to it.

Since nDoom made it to Engadget, Kotaku, Slashdot and various other popular websites, we saw a big increase in new TI-Nspire users asking for help to compile Ndless 2.0. Since Ndless 2.0 is more stable now this should no longer be needed. As usual, however, remember that Ndless is provided as-is and we will not hold responsible for any damage that it might cause to your calculator, so make sure to read the ReadMe! Feedback and bug reports can be posted in the official Ndless 2.0 beta topic.
