There are rumors that Ndless might be coming soon, maybe even at the end of this month. However, as with any project, expected release dates should not be taken for granted, because anything wrong can happen. However, this is still a good sign that major progress has been made with the beta-testing and that it is coming soon, given the proof of concept videos posted recently by various community members, showcasing color ports of gbc4nspire (http://tiplanet.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=118445#p118445) and nDoom (http://ourl.ca/14493), for example:
Today, ExtendeD posted an intriguing article (http://ndlessly.wordpress.com/2012/01/09/countdown/) on his blog, saying "We are getting ready for 8 colorful rockets, stay tuned…", which was reported here (http://tiplanet.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=119627#p119627) earlier. Could this mean that a release is imminent? Regardless of if it comes this month, next month, Spring or even this Summer, prepare to be greeted with color (and OS 3.1-compatible) versions of nDoom, the Game Boy Color emulator, the NES one and maybe other stuff!
-
I see exciting news from before that: Apparently it is reboot proof. I wonder, then, if that means the OS retains its image from boot to boot....If so, I forsee some patching, ie PS/2 keyboard/mouse support over the dock!
-
/me almost fell out of his chair when he saw the news post
Yeah, I saw that about the 8 rockets. I asked adriweb and he told me there would be 8 surprises...
-
Very excited! Wants! :D Comment by ExtendeD is so cryptic... I remember how seeing the screenshots of Ndless 3 GBC emu encouraged me to take on calculator programming for the Nspire. ExtendeD and calc84maniac are basically the reason I joined omnimaga. :)
8 surprises? Very interesting...
-
This is great news! I just received my Nspire CX CAS today and I can't wait for Ndless 3.1. ;D
-
YES!
-
ExtendeD told me in an email that this project wouldn't take too long, so I'm not surprised! :D
Now, to actually get a Nspire CX... :P
-
/me is happy that he bought CX last year :D
-
Sounds great!
-
WHy does everyone in these videos go back to get those coins?!?!?!?
-
Umm, you realize that calc84 made all of the videos featuring Super Mario, right? :P (unless someone else made one, but I've only seen Mario in calc84's that I remember)
Edit: Or not :P Adriweb made that one
-
this is great news... :)
extremely happy
-
A little bit more precise :
As said on TI-Planet, it should be before the end of the month ;)
-
This is good news indeed. I'm sure all of our Nspire owners will be overjoyed. :D
-
Ndless 3 by the end of the month? :D/me is an overjoyed nspire owner
-
wow.... thats even better....
-
And for the lulz :

And for the lulz :
http://levak.free.fr/ftp/nspire/ModelisationTINspire3D/render_b255_61k.jpg
wow, did you make that with blender? it's stand on the pic xp it's amazing..
-
that is cool
-
This is awesome, but I would certainly hope that a Titanium Nspire CX won't happen, because I'm sure TI will sell it for $250-300 and use that new release as excuse to reduce supplies for other models, to force students to buy the $250-300 calc more x.x
-
And to block ndless even more :P
Although, the backlit keys are pretty cool. I might do that just for the lulz.
-
this is just a little bit fantastic news! i'm sure that it will bring in the crowd of new CX using students pretty quickly and motivate some of them to make things of their own.
-
Woah, nice calc :)
If it's coming out by the end of the month, that's freakin amazing. Is that the first surprise?
-
Ohai welcome back shmibs btw :)
And personally, I hope Ndless is not blocked soon on the new OS that is supposedly coming. It would suck considering the hard work that went into Ndless 3.1 (and other versions).
As for the 8 rockets, what I think is either:
-8 Ndless programs (including Ndless itself) will come out
-Or maybe Ndless is coming out in 8 days
-Or 8 weeks
-Or 8 months? O.O
-Something else that is related to Ndless will come out in 8 days or something
And of course when Ndless comes out and a news is posted, Omni and TI-Planet will be accused of trying to claim Ndless as our own software and of stealing news from another related site. :P
-
Probably 8 ndless-related surprises because:
I asked adriweb and he told me there would be 8 surprises...
So it probably doesnt mean 8 days/weeks.
Unless adriweb was lying to protect the truth O.O
-
it could be 8 surprises in 8 days. :D
Also, he said "Countdown" :D
-
Possibly one surprise each day, all leading up to the release of ndless!
-
it is the 8th release of ndless
-

We all hope that TI is not blocking Ndless in the next OS version - but there's hardly any doubt that they will ;)
TI seems to be on a 5-7 month release cycle, with 2 normal updates per year: OS 3.0.1 came out in April 2011, with a 3.0.2 out-of-band update in May 2011, and a 3.1.0 normal update in September 2011. The next OS version should therefore be released in March or April 2012, i.e. more than a month after the Ndless beta (at best !)... but analyzing and fixing the holes takes so much less than a month...
-

No, neither 8 days nor 8 weeks (first is too short, second is too long :P)
And lol no, I'm not lying :
- the 8 rockets are 8 things. (not related to a countdown)
- We seek to release Ndless 3.1 before January ends
- As Lionel said, if the new OS comes around March or April if we establish that possibility from previous releases cycles, it's unlikely TI will have time to fix the bugs. Or maybe they will delay the OS, but I doubt it, since the international T^3 conference happens at the beginning of March and they usually announces their new stuff there (last year (?) Melendy Lovett (Ed. Tech . Top Manager) announced the CX devices models there (along with OS3 ?))
Anyways these are just suppositions/calculations/prognostics based on what we publicly know already from the past.
-
it's unlikely TI will have time to fix the bugs
As much as we all would like to believe so, it is outright foolish to ;)
The only wise opinion is to assume that the next OS version will slam the door to the current incarnation of Ndless.
As I wrote above, and as with the two previous generations of Ndless (1.0/1.1, 1.7/2.0), the vulnerability / vulnerabilities used by Ndless 3.1 can be fixed in much less than more than one month for analysis + code changes + tests.
If TI makes the blunder (from their POV) / boon (from our POV) of letting the next version vulnerable the exact same way as 3.1.0.392, then we, as a community aiming at exercising our freedom to tinker on the devices we own, will have every reason to rejoice :)
But it is extremely unlikely that this will occur, really.
If TI's release process has such a high turnaround time that makes it impossible to fix critical vulnerabilities (from their POV) in weeks, how can anyone be confident that the new OS release didn't let slip in some known (unlike the boot2 destruction bug of OS 3.0.1.1753, AFAWCT) major usage bugs detected in the last minute ? ;)
(unless TI officially notifies the entire community that they reversed the lockdown stance that has been theirs for nearly five years now - but that is even more unlikely, and would be even bigger news :D)
-
This is why I think we should keep quiet about Ndless and Co to website like Slashdot until the next OS is out.
Teachers and/or people at TI will notice it less, which might result in less pressure on the developers to fix it.
-
Ah, but I still suspect they watch the calc forums. They don't need accounts to see news on the releases.
-
Well we don't know if they check Omni, because when they sent e-mails to various website owners last year, they sent one to Cemetech (which in general is very pro-Casio and anti-Nspire), The TIBank team that moved to TI-Planet, Ticalc.org and a few others. Yet, Omnimaga received nothing at all. This is most likely because:
-Omnimaga has posted too many negative comments about TI in news and made fun of them through fake news and april fools pranks (although that would be surprising, considering Cemetech is even more anti-Nspire than Omni ever did)
-They didn't find us yet (maybe they were using an old site list and Omnimaga had a different URL or was down at the time they made it)
-Our front page states directly that we focus mostly on games, which is not TI's focus.
-They don't find us important enough for the community (which would be quite ironic considering the amount of people that get online everyday)
Not sure what else it could be, though.
-
or, maybe, they post among us O.O
-
Well, they didn't know it existed at first, but if IIRC now they do.
-
Ah maybe. That said we still have Casio stuff and members and maybe they didn't notice Cemetech did at the time. Not sure if that could have caused problems.
-
I can't believe the progress ExtendeD and the team have made in keeping up ndless with the TI-nspire OS releases. This is great news and another sign of continued success for ndless.
-
I have seen lots of posts about gameboy games on the Ti-nspire, but where can I download the games?
-
google here we dont host roms sorry google gameboy roms and search gbc4nspire on google and you should be fine

Im in a rush

It's best that you wait until you have more time before posting, though, so you can double-check your posts before posting, else if they are written poorly, some people will ignore them.

Would the elder scrolls II: daggerfall be too complicated to emulate on the nspire?
-
the 8 surprises TI-bank had a good idea for them.

Apparently, Ndless 3.1 is coming in less than 10 days... :o

It could possibly be ported, although I'm unsure. Is the source code available?the 8 surprises TI-bank had a good idea for them.

Note that like us, those ideas are pure speculation, though. It could totally be something else. It's stuff that we think that might be coming out.Apparently, Ndless 3.1 is coming in less than 10 days... :o
Where did you find that?? ???

Adriweb told us on IRC earlier today, check the logs ^_^
-
Oh wow that is great O.O
-
yay!!
-
Now he says 5 hours o.o
-
Also, I don't think anyone here should contact blogs/websites as its already done.
(Also English ones)
-
Awesome. We only have to post the news and mass-email it then.
-
Yup :)
Can't wait to see all the Ndless programmers that left come back :D
-
Could one of the rocket be oslauncher for os 3.1?
-
Well it's coming in less than 4 hours :) (22:00 GMT+1)
Countdown here : http://tiplanet.org/ndless/ (http://tiplanet.org/ndless/)
-
No, OSlauncher has not been adapted for the CX at all.
And anyway, the CX OSes are encrypted in a different way.
So the computer decryptor would have to been modified too.
But all the source code is public. So if anybody want to try to port both calculator and computer tools...
By the way people, today is the great day! ;)

XD 4 HOURS TILL LAUNCH?!!!!!

XD 4 HOURS TILL LAUNCH?!!!!!
Only 4 hours to wait :w00t:
Btw, thanks for the tuto "How to nstall ndl3ss", I'll need this :P
-
You should listen to this while watching the countdown I installed on the main page.
-
AMAZING
-
The source code of OSLauncher was indeed made public... but the source code of the program which can decrypt CX & CM OS, in addition to Clickpad / Touchpad / Lab Cradle OS, is not currently public ;)
This program cannot, theoretically, be published by citizens of countries which grant any value to "Intellectual Property", "Circumvention Measure" and similar / related crap :)
As shown by the new version of Ndless, TI's new encryption scheme did not hamper reverse-engineering efforts in any meaningful way. It was nothing more than a minor annoyance down the road.

The new encryption scheme might be a minor annoyance, but while nobody does publish an updated version of the computer-side decryptor binary, it remains a big annoyance.
-
Indeed. That said, if the decryptor remains private, nspire_emu can be used to get decrypted CX (CAS) OS images, by merely dumping the appropriate area of RAM :)

Would the elder scrolls II: daggerfall be too complicated to emulate on the nspire?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Elder_Scrolls_II:_Daggerfall
Well, since it requires 200 mb of space and a considerable amount of ram(for an older game) yes. It would be too much. It Also requires a fairly fast processor (90 mhz x86). Also, it wouldn't be emulated. It would be a port of the original.
