On my short temporary journey back into forum admin stuff (mostly behind-the-scenes tasks) and to increase the amount of news posts where links are properly bolded (j/k :P), I am following on another topic (http://ourl.ca/9270) that made the front page. As for now, Mraklopaz nDoom beta (http://ourl.ca/9206)continues to spread accross the world and now even got featured on sites like Engadget, The Escapist, Kotaku, GameTrailers and Digg. Almost all sites links to my Youtube video about the game and Engadget, The Escapist and Kotaku link to the Omnimaga topics or sub-forum about it.

This is the video in question. Note that I used the wrong WAD file, which caused the crashes. Crashes are much less frequent with the original one:
It is also spreading like wildfire on many forums, blogs and social network sites, if you check Google. On EncyclopediaDram... er O.O I mean on several forums, the game grabbed some attention and got quite a bunch of comments.
Unfortunately, on certain blogs, the game port was wrongly credited to me instead of Mraklopaz, probably a misconception due to the fact I created the Youtube video showing the game in action, but hopefully this confusion should be cleared up if people click the Omnimaga link to the nDoom beta.
Let's hope that Ndless will be possible on the TI-Nspire CX, to play this, if TI ever decided to discontinue the current models.
UPDATE (Feb 22th): It seems nDoom finally made it to Slashdot and Hackaday too, along with Global CALCnet:

W00t.
I don't know how much longer it's going to be before our community will grow so large that not everybody knows each other, I don't even really know some of the new guys anymore.
We keep on putting out news that interests more then just calc fanatics :) just amazes me every time :)
-
Yeah true. Actually I still knew a lot of the people that joined, but that was until a RL event that occured on Dec 23rd-24th (that you and a few others know about), then afterward I kinda faded away and didn't check the forums as often, so if new members only posts in sections I don't check anymore, I might not know them as much. Thankfully the community is still close to each others, though, considering over 120 members log in every day. I think there's the fact we try hard to keep it friendly that helps a lot. Surely bad stuff can happen because of that, but eventually it gets solved.
-
There was already a news thread about this, but woah this is still spreading like crazy ;D
-
I am a little bit surprised, however Doom was (and still is to a degree) massively popular in it's heyday.
*Edit* Just had a good buddy of mine instant message me about the Kotaku article (He knows I'm a huge calc nerd). I had to laugh. I told him its old news. ;D
-
Well-deserved.
-
wow, I wonder how many downloads nDooms going to get on ticalc. :o
-
>9000, of course
-
And a POTY in the bag
-
And a POTY in the bag
Yeah, a POTY maybe, not sure, until December a lot of stuff can still show up.
-
definitely, unless Ndless comes out for the TI-Nspire CX. Even then, it still may get the POTY
-
One would think they would be different categories though...color vs. grayscale :P
Calm down
So, who's getting worked up?
-
definitely, unless Ndless comes out for the TI-Nspire CX. Even then, it still may get the POTY
Calm down... A lot of games/programs for the NSpire can still come, Doom can win, but we can't say for sure.
-
It was a shock when I saw it on Engadget, more like a Wow! I wish the video was a bit more clear, like a SS from an emu.
-
Wow, gratz to Mrakoplaz! Also, I bet they all picked it up from the front page news article that was posted. News everyday policy FTW
-
Saw it on here earlier, but when I saw it on Engadget I thought that was pretty big. We all knew the project was looking great, hopefully more people can enjoy it now.

He's calm, but I think Doom could effectively win. Ndless already came out so it can't be featured twice for the Nspire. However, it could have chances for the CX. Maybe ticalc will merge both categories, though. Doom has huge chances because of the name and the fact it's the real game ported to calcs, but if a Zelda or Super Mario clone comes out it will most likely do like the 2007 68K POTY, where SM68K won by 70 ish % over Doom 68K.

From the comments section of Kotaku:
Somehow I would actually call bullshit on this one. I think it's more likely this is a video of Doom playing rather than the actual game.
Firstly - the executable file is only 400k - the size some kind of a video player could be. The actual game starts in mid-action, just as the Doom logo is in mid-fade, it plays too smoothly and perfectly without the device moving from the guy presumably actually playing the game, and then it just ends mid-action just as the presumed player is about to enter combat. It also ends by going to black screen, and staying there, just as you would expect a video to end.
Some people will never believe this.

Silly boo-hissers...

I replied to his comment ;)

Sorry for the double post, but it seems like we've made it to slashdot:
http://games.slashdot.org/story/11/02/22/0340258/Online-Multiplayer-Games-On-TI-Calculators (http://games.slashdot.org/story/11/02/22/0340258/Online-Multiplayer-Games-On-TI-Calculators)
This one is actually about gCn, but nDoom was also mentioned.
-
O.O nice Mraklopaz! :O
Also congrats to Kerm! By reading this, that kinda also makes me wish even more we could play something like Doom via gCn ;D
-
gCn+nDoom is on hackaday, too:
http://hackaday.com/2011/02/22/global-calcnet-your-ti-83-just-acquired-internet/ (http://hackaday.com/2011/02/22/global-calcnet-your-ti-83-just-acquired-internet/)
I wonder if anyone thinks that nDoom supports gCn just because of these two articles... :P
-
Uhm wow 2x more congrats to both :D, I am surprised nDoom went there, though, because Hackaday is primarly oriented towards hacking, hardware mods and gadgets such as what they talk about in Cemetech's technology boards.
And yeah I'm wondering if people will ask Kerm how to run nDoom via gCn X.x. Thankfully gCn is for the 83+/84+ and nDoom is for the Nspire, so if they spotted that in the articles this should be fine.
Also if gCn made it there, I wouldn't be surprised if Engadget and a few other sites picked it up. Now imagine how popular this could become towards students under 18 if Kerm made an USB gCn O.O.
-
Weeeee! Just weeeeee! O.O congratz Mraklopaz!!!
-
heh we could play pseudo halo becuase there are plenty of great wads like halodoom.
SPARTAN LASER ON DEH CALCAULATOR!!!!!!!! PEWPEWPEWPEPW
-
HaloDoom is for Doom2. will this work with that file or cause strange problems?
-
I wonder if other WAD files will work fine now. It would really rule if they did. The only way to find out is to try them, though. I think you just rename the WAD file to .wad.tns They need to fit on the calc, though.
-
Haha, awesome! My whole school is playing nDOOM and pokémon on the Nspire :D
-
This is amazing. PS: Is that a fan I see?
-
This reminds me of Street Fighter when it was released for TI-89 when I was at school.

Hahahaaha reading it in Spanish is cool.
"calculadora alucinante" xD

Wow, it really is worldwide now!
EDIT: 3333 posts :D

Nice it made news front page on such sites too?
I remember back in my school days there was an Illusiat 11 craze, but unfortunately other people were not up to date on new calc games so when new games were spreading it was usually me sending them to a person. :P
Besides nDoom the only calc games I saw making Engadget were Wolfeinstein 83+ and xLIB xLIB Revolution.

Nice. I think I saw many more before, but a lot had like 0-1 comment so they were not as popular as the ones above.
