Netham45 has brought to us a beta of the a version of OmnomIRC last night!
Completely rewritten from scratch, OmnomIRC now uses much less bandwidth and resources on his server than it used to and in addition to that, all scripts that are hosted on Omnimaga side fetches their informations directly from the MySQL database instead of website pages that contained only that info. Also it makes Omnimaga website even less dependent of OmnomIRC than the previous one, as the previous version required Omnimaga to wait until it received a response from Netham45 server before the page even started loading. Due to our traffic increase, this caused the site to take around 20-30 seconds per page to load. Now when Netham45 server is slow, the pages will load anyway, without the shoutbox content.
Since it is still in beta, some features are still missing:
-Today's Logs link
-French IRC channel (#Omnimaga-Fr)
-Nickname completion with Tab
-The new logo I made for Netham45 D:
However a few new features have appeared, besides the lower resources usage:
-Highlighting can now play a sound on your computer, depending of if you enabled the option or not
-New design
-Option menu built-in the shoutbox instead of a new page
-The ability to scroll back up through the chat. On page load, extra lines of text are loaded, so you miss less parts of the latest conversation when you arrive.
There might be a few bugs as well, so make sure to report them in the OmnomIRC (http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?board=132.0) sub-forum (make sure to check if your bug hasn't been reported already). In some rare cases, the chat box might be taken down for maintenance or to re-add the missing features.
Besides that, the post notifier bot has been rewritten as well to use the database directly.

Thar, your logo is in there now. :P
-
Awesome :D
-
Awesomeness. With the slight downside that Omnom frame is blocked at my school. :( (I asked them to unblock Omni and they did! :D)
-
My school hasn't blocked omnom or omni yet. sometimes its good being the only real calc nerd at your school.
I liek this setup its much easier to use. My favorite feature is the beep. It makes it easier for me since i flipping through so many things all the time to know when I should go back to omni
-
Mine neither. My school even unblocked 4chan :P
Also I love how you took my idea of Chrome notifications :)
-
This is wonderful. I have to say though, the Chrome notifications are the best part. Wow. I also really like that I can scroll up in the conversation without having to look up the logs. :) Wonderful job, Netham! Thanks!
-
My school has blocked 4chan. I wouldnt try going there anyways.
It easy to get around school blocks. just set up a remote computer with teamviewer to use it instead of the school.
-
Yeah this is looking great, the logo too :D (IN LOBSTERS WE TRUST).
I tried it and it also looks much, but much faster. I am anxious for nickname completion :D
-
Oh, it's awesome and very fast. Love it!
Yesterday I still had a bug, but today it works fine.
-
Too awesome  I love the Chrome notifications! Now if only it would appear only once if I have more than one page open.
Nickname tab completion sounds epic O.O
Awesomeness. With the slight downside that Omnom frame is blocked at my school. :( (I asked them to unblock Omni and they did! :D)
Lucky... What'd you tell them?
-
Omni's blocked, but there's certain proxies that aren't...and omnom works from some of them.
A slight downside, though. Fsr it kind of bugs me how the omnom logo is off to the side, instead of the middle.
Also, the things already said in other topics, i.e. the scrolling buttons being to small. And the link colors are a bit btighter than they were before, and don't fit as well with this blue in the omni theme. ██ Finicky little stuff :P
All in all, this is great, a really useful tool.
-
hoorah!
-
My school is rather stupid when it comes to security. It usually only takes me a minute at most to get to any website I want. Assuming I have my flash Drive. My school doesn't even know about half the sites I go to because I am the only calc/comp programming nerd in my school.
TeamViewer FTW

Interesting; I like it over at the side better. I think it fits because all of the text within Omnom isn't centered.
-
Meh, your link to the OmnomIRC subforum is broken, DJ.
I like how the new one looks, by the way. The 'you must login + have 40 posts' message is a lot more cleaner and less cluttered, and the arrows are really useful.
My only suggestion would be to make the logs and other options at the right bigger. I barely noticed they were there.
-
It appears that you do not need 40 posts to use omnom currently. was that intentionally left out?
-
Fixed link and post count limit. Darl could you take a screenshot of the Logo bug? I can't seem to replicate it. Note that IE is no longer supported, though, except for IE9.
-
I think he means how the "IN LOBSTERS WE TRUST!" logo is on the left of the bar, instead of in the center like it used to be.
-
It's in the middle for me O.O
-
??? What browser are you using?
In Chrome it looks like this:

Funny thing is, it's actually centered in IE:

But the logo is replaced with text (instead of the image).
-
I use Opera. I think this is a glitch, then, because it's supposed to be in the middle. You should report it in the OmnomIRC bugs. Also there appears to be a problem with the alternating lines in your second screenshot.
-
Nah, I know why alternating lines doesn't work in IE. Netham45 uses the opacity property in CSS to alternate every other line; it's not supported by Internet Exploder at all.
-
Oh wait your second is from IE, I thought it was from Chrome. I misread, then. You should definitively post a separate topic, though, because the logo glitch happens in FF too.

Posted.
Maybe it's some CSS3 issue? Opera seems to be the only browser that supports it almost completely.
-
Looks good, but I don't really like the custom scrollbars.

^^ that, but the 2010 theme. I'm so used to all the stuff being in the middle :P
btw Firefox 4.0.1

Same, the buttons are too small. And I can't scroll using my mouse wheel anymore :(
For some reason I can scroll the Users Online list though.
-
I don't understand why people complain about scrolling with the wheel... with the old OmnomIRC we never were able to even scroll at all anyway. Also we tried with wheel scrolling and it was an hassle to browse the site, so it was removed. Only the online list scrolls with the wheel, now.
I agree the buttons should be larger, though.
-
I don't care about wheel scroling because I don't have a wheel on my mouse, but when I did have a mouse with it I really used that a lot.
-
Thank you so much, Netham45! It works like a well-wound clock!
-
There never was scrolling on the old omnomIRC, there was never anything to scroll. Scrolling with the wheel made navigating the site a pain in the ass, so it was removed(We did play with it, it wasn't something worth having.)
I'll be fixing it to have a scroll bar on the side sometime soon.
(I'm taking a break from it for a bit, I'd been working on it solid for most of the past week.)

And an epic job you did there, too :)
I see your point about the scrollbars. It did annoy me too when I tried scrolling down the page and it got caught in the Omnom box.
-
Good job Netham you deserve your break(unless a serious bug comes up... j/k)
-
Yeah definitively a good job. Hopefully some of the former features like banning and the french channel returns after the break.
