News reports that one of our former administrator, Netham45, who still maintains some parts of the website and the chatroom, has accomplished something previously thought impossible in the community: jailbreaking a microwave using a calculator. He recently put his hands on one of the Casio Prizm prototypes that were given to teachers at some places in United States recently, and then the power was at his... microwave door.
According to an anonymous source, as he was going to cook himself a seafood meal, he suddently got the strange experiment idea. He then proceeded in modifying the graphing calculator to allow connections with his microwave, which we do not know the brand and model of, then using a program, he sent data to the microwave internal computer to program in a primitive version of a number guessing game, where he simply pressed number buttons to guess the right number. Once he guessed the right number, the meal started cooking.
This once again shows the huge step that Casio has made ahead of Texas Instruments in terms of graphing calculator technology! Unfortunately, the calculator prototype appears to have suffered a short circuit during the experiment, thus, no longer working.
UPDATE (November 19th 2010): There are also reports that DJ Omnimaga's Inbox on his forum has reached 1000 PMs. The FBI is currently investigating with his hosting provider to find the source of this unusually high and suspicious amount of messages. Rumors states that Ztrumpet may have been guilty of sending about 250 of those messages.

OH NOES! D:
-
This is great ;D
I seem to remember something about brown text, though... ;)
EDIT: ...how is this not in randomness?
-
Hahaha :P Love this :D
-
Holy cow! I hope he backed up his code! I want it when I get a microwave of my own!
-
next thing: jailbreaking a lampshade.
With the prizm, anything is possible.
-
Remember, Celtic III can not be used as an automatic light dimmer, because then Iambian will hate you forever (probably not). :P
-
The next thing you know, Netham45 will be jailbreaking criminals.
-
Wait a minute, this is some kind of joke isn't it?
Wait, never mind, it has special colored text which means it is important news, so it must be real. For second my dreams were crushed.
-
Then, he'll jailbreak the US. Then he'll have tons of control over everything, spend trillions of dollars on non-working stimulus crap and defective health care, make a speech a day, lose control of the house and eventually hopefully the senate and lose his seat himself, and then move to china to praise communism and eat delicious sushi. And he'll jailbreak his lampshade at the same time.
EDIT: lobster sushis.

If you don't like it and find it offensive, too bad, send me a PM if you really are concerned though. and remember, don't take it seriously.
-
sushi is japanese >.>
-
oh, well then he'll go there to eat sushi everyday, but will own a hut in China to pursue that communist thing. ;)

Yeah I was gonna say that sushis are japaneese but Squidgetx beat me up to it. Also, over here it was insane 2 years ago: there were about 20 sushi bars/restaurants in a 1 mile radius.
-
there's about 20 in a 3 mile radius here, just checked on google. yeah, sushi is great stuff -- maybe netham can jailbreak that for us!
-
This is great! I wonder...
/me jailbreaks a PS3 with a microwave oven!
W00!

That would be freaking epic. Or maybe...
/me jailbreaks a PS3 with an alarm clock bought in a 99ยข store
/me jailbreaks that alarm clock with the jailbraked microwave
-
/me jailbreaks a PS3 by thinking about it

W00!
YES! Now when I got that microwave, PS3, and Prizm, I can hack my PS3! YEESSSSS. And all I need to do is buy the stuff \(^_^)/
-
The most interesting idea remains jailbreaking a TI-Nspire with OS 2.1 using a Casio Prizm, though. That would really be lulz.
-
There was talk of jailbreaking a PS3 from those cheap S1MP3 MP3 players, because they also have a Zilog Z80 processor. I would get on it, but I can't find one locally and it would take weeks (months?) to get it here, with no guarantee that I got the right one.
-
Nice. I am not sure if I saw those over here either. It looks familiar but I might just have seen them online and confused them with another kind. I wonder what other devices can jailbreak a PS3 besides the 84+/89T, that MP3 player? I haven't followed the scene much since I do not own a PS3. I wonder if the Prizm will do it...
-
Wait, can said MP3 player be programmed, too? That would be pretty cool... I love the z80 processor now that I can program it...
-
That would be so intense....
"My new iPod Touch has Facetime!
My cheapo S1MP3 player can jailbreak my PS3!"

A lot of cell phones will do it as well. The S1MP3 MP3 players are a cheap off-brand type made in China, disguised as iPod clones and other devices. It's hard to tell whether a particular device is S1MP3 just by looking at it, which is part of the problem.
Wait, can said MP3 player be programmed, too? That would be pretty cool... I love the z80 processor now that I can program it...
Yes, it's programmable, and there is an open source firmware replacement project for it.
-
Oh ok so there are plenty of S1MP3 players... I was sure it was just one kind of MP3 player, lol.
-
Oh, Netham. We love you.
-
According to an anonymous source, as he was going to cook himself a seafood meal, he suddently got the strange experiment idea.
Er, cannibalism?
-
Indeed D:, although i wonder if the term cannibalism applies for non-human life form? :P
There are no indications it was lobster, though. ;D
-
/me debates whether or not to eat HAL

No, self-cannibalism.
-
:O even worse!
And quote fail. :P

Even better, using an already jailbroken nspire to jailbreak another one.
-
Or using a jailbroken microwave to jailbreak a microwave :P
-
Netham45 is, was, and always will be my hero.
-
Lol Geno :P
Also I updated the fake news article just now, although it isn't very related (see bold text). :P
-
see my sig spoiler for my response to that.
-
Lol, also thank you for having edited the sig by putting the image in a spoiler. :P
-
yw, it turned out 3x larger than I though :o

Yes, it's programmable, and there is an open source firmware replacement project for it.
Ooooh. That could be fun! I am going to check it out...

Wow. Congrats DJ on your 1000th PM :P
-
Lol thanks. The last 25 took a while to arrive, actually, despite having received about 50 in a week right before. :P
-
jail breaking with number guessing program...
wfrng for the prizm!!!
whoah and congrats to the 1000th pm!
-
Lol thanks. :P

Hum... I'm sure my TI-01 could jailbreak my PS3 :D
Or maybe not... But even though,
AWESOME! Hahaha, when I saw the title of the thread I though it was a joke ;)

I know, it's pretty hard to believe. But with GE, Kenmore, and Whirlpool all suing Netham...

It IS a joke. Notice the different text color (which is the same as the 2010 April 1st joke). :P

I wonder if microwaves run on a z80 processor...
then I can program pyyrix for kitchenmaid microwave ovens

Heh, if we could program them in ASM, every microwave in the world is going to be labeled a radio hazard ;D
-
or a nasty resulting cooked food warning
-
Tutorial idea: How to overclock your microwave
I can just see it happening.

Heh, that's gonna be a lot of undercooked meals...
-
sounds delicious
-
More like burnt to a crisp meals.
The number of house fires will go up dramatically, and the majority will have been started by overheating microwaves.

Speaking of which, good thing the TI-OS programmers haven't been programming microwaves
-
the KOS programmers might though

KOS programmers will hack FBI, dude

Headline: GE Refrigerator Hacks Top-Secret Military Data Centers
That would go on front page of The New York Times
-
Soon all the microwaves will be confisticated(is it a right word?) ;D
-
I could just imagine some random person coming to this site on accident and seeing this on the front page, reading it, and leaving in confusion.
"Refrigerators hacking FBI, mp3 players jailbreaking game consoles, overclocked microwaves, ??? "
-
Don't forget WFRNG
that left me confused for about 5 months.

^ Except that the second one might actually come true :D
-
One thing that would've been funny is if that member from Revsoft and MaxCoderz nicknamed Toaster finished his calc RPG back in 2004-05. I had a fake news planned for Omnimaga back then about a toaster-generated calculator game. :P
-
HAHA i love these fake news!
-
Headline: GE Refrigerator Hacks Top-Secret Military Data Centers
Brandonw did it with a Kenmore last week...
-
Are you serious? O.o Link to IRC logs?
-
Joking, DJ :P
-
Ah ok lol. X.x
-
My dad came up to me about 5 minutes ago and asked if I had broken the LCD on our microwave with a calculator after reading this post.
-
You took one month to reply to this topic? O.O
Also lol. :P
-
My dad came up to me about 5 minutes ago and asked if I had broken the LCD on our microwave with a calculator after reading this post.
And you told him the truth righhhtttt? :p

He found out...
