Similar to United-Ti, Omnimaga now has a board for discontinued projects. If a major project, meaning a project with its own subforum, is no longer being worked on, it will be relocated to the board "Discontinued Projects." All topics will be
locked but 100% viewable.
Generally speaking, all projects in the folder will have source code available, for example the recent relocation of Seek and Destroy. If another member wishes to continue the project, the project will be returned to its original location.
Note that if a project has been finished successfully and released, it will not be moved to Discontinued Projects. For instance my ASM Tutorials have not been relocated.

I am happy about that. Now the forum will feel less crowded. How will a project be determined to be dead, by the author, or by the admins? I'm afraid that when some projects are about to be moved, the author will wake it up, and it will stay.
-
Sounds good :)
mrmprog: probably by either explicit announcement of the author or after discussion between the author and admins.
Edit: And yeah, it should help clean things up a bit. I did like having it like that on UTI.
-
Yes but can the projects that are already discontinued be moved EXAMPLE: Star Fox
-
I think that's part of it, yes. And Star Fox never reached a state of completion. However, I'm not sure it was ever given its own subforum.
-
Sounds interesting. Hope it will clean up the boards.

Calcdude84se hit the nail on the head. Someone can announce their project as dead, or else it will be a discussion. In some cases, maybe a project will be moved and then the author himself will decide that he wants to try working on it again, meaning the project will be moved back.
-
Good move. It makes the active projects forum less cluttered, but we can still visit and pay our respects to the casualties of time and disinterest.

I agree. When I first joined I was very disappointed to find an awesome project, and then see that the last post was a year ago. hopefully this will remove those kind of disappointments.

Plus it gives someone a chance to say "Hmmm...interesting project. So the author doesn't plan to work on it? Sweet, that means I can take over!"

It's not on the front page yet...

I really don't know if it should be placed on the front page. That's a DJ decision :)

Major projects that are no longer being worked on.
Just noticed :P
Anyway good idea. Looks like it could organize the projects a bit ;D
-
Hmm nice move, but I disagree that the topics should be locked, else everytime someone revives a project or wants to discuss it, we'll have to unlock them..
Also for older projects, I think this should only apply to recent ones, because else it will be hard to search through the 700 topics in the project/ideas section for dead projects. (back then the sub-forums were simply removed)

Good point. I'll fix that.

I agree, and this way it's easier for people to announce that they're reviving an old project.

I also moved nDoom there by the way. I should maybe make an Illusiat 13 sub-forum again >.>
-
Now the side bar on the main page needs to be updated. IMO, discontinued projects should just be taken off from there.
Some more possible candidates are ncaster, TI-BOY, F-Zero, Bomberman, Project M, and XDE.
-
Yeah, I updated some of them, but I forgot the major TI projects one. Don't worry lol
F-Zero, TI-Boy, Bomberman, Project M and XDE are not dead, though.
I also need to add the Casio projects like Khavi.
-
Well I didn't see any progress on those. I guess they are dormant, sorry, my bad.
-
No problem. Yeah Calc84maniac usually moves from a project to another.
As for nCaster I didn't see it listed so I guess no deletion is needed

I think you should. It's an amazing game that deserves to be completed by someone someday. :)
-
Lol thanks.
Also does anyone mind if I move the discontinued project sub-forum inside the major TI projects one? I think it would make a bit more sense, else it kinda has too much emphasis, despite being for discontinued stuff.

Ditto that ^

I think that's exactly where it should go :)

I think this is fair and good news, especially because I think some projects "hibernate" for a while and then revive, so we don't delete the subforums but we put them in a special place because if a project is not worked on then I don't think it needs a special subforum (now it does, but in the new board).
