strangely, in Montreal at the school my cousin goes to, they are not even allowed to use any calc, not even a BASIC one in maths. Nobody even knows about TI-83+s there. Then you move 155 miles to the east and you are forced to use a graphing calculator and have to know how to use it. I'm unsure if it's because the school system changed that much in 5 years but I was so surprised. They didn't even disabled calcs in tests. However, the way the problems were written you couldn't even use your calc for most of the exam except for small calculations, because you had to write the whole solution of how you solved the problem.

It isn't really news, since it was out at least for 2 years, but there is effectively a new Casio calc emulator avaliable now, called NewGraph. It emulates the Casio FX-9860G model (altough for some reasons the emulator says 9960G, even thought there doesn't seems to be any), meaning the AFX series and the Classpad are no longer the only emulated calculators. I didn't got time to test everything but it seems to be almost fully functional. There is no documentation avaliable in readme form, though. Here is an animated screenshot made with Calc Capture and a static screenshot of the emulator:

Necropost :P

How did you get that screenshot, DJ? I can't seem to get one.

There's no screenshot option in the emu. I used CalcCapture.

Search on ticalc.org for CalcCapture. It captures from Virtual TI by default but you can setup the screenshot capture to capture from other stuff as well, even non-calc emulators. It's used to take animated screenshots from the TI-Nspire emulators.

Okay, I found it. How did you set it up to handle newgraph?

Oh, CalcCapture doesn't really "recognize" the emulator. You have to tell it where the calculator screen is, and it's basically a screen recorder. Here's a short tutorial on how it works (it was made for nspire_emu, but you'll understand it).

Yeah you need to setup a new emulator/window name then the screen.

Wow I just noticed this file is still online! O.O

Sorry for the necropost, but the good thing about this emulator is that unlike the FX-9860G manager, this one has no 90 days trial, so you can use it as long as you want. It's still on Casio's official servers, so you better get it while it last.

However, to send files to the emulator, you must:
1) Copy the program to the emulator folder
2) Go to the memory manager on calc
3) Select SD Card
4) Load the file of your choice.

It dates back in August 2005, so it's definitively far from OS 2.00, meaning no string functions. Also it doesn't detect add-ins in the main menu.

Interesting, didn't actually realize until now that this was an official emulator :o I wonder why Casio provides the service in that case, without even requiring a ROM image.

Well, as long as this thread is going to be resurrected, I may as well put in my two cents...

Not bad, the color models are really neat looking, but I also like the one that flips open and closed (don't remember which model it is).

That was the Fx-9860G Slim ;)

Yup. Personally I would have liked to get one, but I fear I wouldn't have gotten used to the different keypad layout. :P

It still can be downloaded from here : http://oud.digischool.nl/wi/rekenmachines/CASIO-9860/fx-9860.html#7
Yeah the page in in dutch but has a lot of interesting stuff for Casio enthusiasts. See if it still suits you. ;)
