Harder than software ones. But don't even think about the nspire having exploitable hardware..

I can't imagine it either....without hardware modding.

If hardware modding did work and actually got popular on the Nspire, then get ready for sealed calc cases that cannot even be opened, like the Xbox 360, but worse (they'll most likely make them of brushed metal like the HP Prime face/front, but solder the front with the back). O.O

In France, it is possible to spot new TI-Nspire CX as the demo sticker on the packaging has been changed for back to school 2013.

Could you check for North America?
It would be a very important news I think.

The local Staples store had the Nspire CX discontinued for half a year before they finally decided to stock in again, but the last time I checked they still had the same red package as before.

That would be so cool, you'd *at least* know which one you'll buy.

It's probably the same. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of stores still have old stock here though. Nspires don't seem to sell as much over here. I'll take a look next time I'm out and about. ;)

In North America for the old Nspire CXs, (at least the ones I got from math competitions), the demo sticker is a hot air balloon. I haven't seen any new Nspire CX yet though.

Earlier somebody said a full memory dump of the new calcs would help, couldn't a hardware modification make that possible?

The new ones are hot air balloons, too.

I feel shafted. I got my first Nspire CX last night, spent about an hour wondering why things weren't working and why it was refusing to downgrade and then I found this thread. Really disappointed.

TI-Nspire CX CAS hardware revision J:

New NAND chip, new motherboard with a completely different reference, removal of the internal J04/JTAG connector.

There are some similarities with the strange TI-Nspire CX discovered by ust.
Pictures in the Omnimaga topic seem to have become broken, but they are available in the TI-Planet hardware J news:

I think that I might be bringing more questions than answers.
Feel free to comment - your guess may be as good as mine.

Why is the dock connector on a seperate board?
I know that older calculators are the same way, but why?
It only induces more stress on the solder joints.
How do they flash boot1? Are they using Mask-ROM or just one-time-writable memory?
If they're using the latter, the possibility should exist to change some bits to 0.

We have no clue on models without an external NOR Flash chip, i.e. the majority of them.
There are at least three conjectures:
* it's done when the LSI Logic chip is manufactured, by its manufacturer;
* it's done by TI after receiving the chips but before soldering;
* it's done by TI after soldering, e.g. through the JTAG. But the J CX hardware revision probably renders that conjecture false.
