Title: NimbusOS source code released
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on January 07, 2011, 01:09:37 am
Back in 2003, United-TI formed from the merge of various websites such as Cirrus TI Programming and The Calc Site and various projects were announced. Among them there were Contra 83, Sonic, NimbusOS and plenty of others. Unfortunately, very few were finished. Recently, however, David, one of the founders of United-TI, has published the source and executable of NimbusOS as is.

As this screenshot shows, this is a calculator shell. As the United-TI post (http://www.unitedti.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=9595) states, this shell has bugs, though, so use it at your own risk! It is released as it is as the authors are officially no longer working on it. Although it is not recommended for your gaming needs due to its uncertain stability, maybe you will want to see, out of curiosity, what alternative to other shells was in development back in the days. Maybe the source code will eventually be useful to other programmers as well.

More information as well as some download links are available here (http://www.unitedti.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=9595).

Cool, seems almost like an in-between choice for those who don't wantto use, or don't have the space for DoorsCS, but want a fancy-looking shell.

/me feels very proud of himself

Hah just kidding.

Now, this source code could be useful for people who want to make a shell or an OS, great!

Finally, it's released! Well, sort of...

Maybe we (as in the calc community as a whole) can pick this up again. This was one awesome shell, and I'd really hate to see it die forever.

Also /me feels proud to see his game in the shot... I really gotta finish that someday soon.

Woah, that looks nice (and different). Mirage style UI, but cooler looking. I wonder what will become of this....

I wonder how hard it would be to make a shell in Axe....

Maybe some features could be implemented in Doors CS eventually, assuming they aren't already all in it. That's unless the shell disallow usage of the source code in any competing shell, though.

EDIT: @Squidgetx Cooliojazz tried one before, but I don't remember what happened to it. It allowed you to lock/unlock, archive/unarchive programs and appvars and allowed you to convert programs to appvars or vice-versa.
