Title: nPlayer for Nspire CX
Post by: apcalc on January 21, 2012, 12:55:27 pm
Here is a test release of nPlayer for the CX.  It is still an early version, but it does do what it is supposed to do:  play videos.  Its drawbacks are that there is no file compression (not too big of an issue with the CX memory  >:D) and it does not allow videos smaller than the Nspire screen.  Nevertheless, here is a video of it in action (sorry for the large size, link is below) and the file is attached!  This won't work on the non-CX models, it is for the CX only.  Both versions will be combined when I update this on ticalc, this is just a test version for those who have asked for it on the CX!  Also, I will upload the player to the Omnimaga archives!

Looks great, I'll need to test it at some point. Was the process of creating videos for it made easier since last version?  IIRC you had to separate all frames of an AVI file into BMP format then merge them back together using command prompt or something.

EDIT: Downloading Super is a major PITA, because it keeps looping back to the home page in some browsers and the link is hard to find on others, so here's a direct download link (copy/paste it in your address bar http://www.erightsoft.biz/GetFile.php?SUPERsetup.exe )

EDIT: Ok Apcalc you definitively need to find an alternative for video compression because SUPER doesn't work properly under WIndows 7 64 bits. After the conversion finished, no BMP files are present in the newly created folder. :/

I guess you can use ImageMagick or Photoshop?

How long can a video be before it's over 128 mb?

I had to delete 2 .wad files for doom to fit the video on my nspire D: (I can always rotate between video and .wads though)

I know, the file sizes are huge.  I did not even attempt to add any compression yet, I only released it in this stage because people were asking for it! :)

That is strange.  Make sure the "video.cvid.tns" is in the My Documents/video directory and try again.  If that does not work, please email me the video file (email in my profile) so I can take a look! :)

I'm not sure, I did not test it.  My example takes up about half of my memory and it is around 45 seconds.

Sadly, I don't know of any fix for this. :(  I wish I could find a better way, but I have not yet found one.

WOW silly me ;D  I had them both, the vid and nplayer, in a subfolder in a folder in "my docs", not its own folder IN "my docs" (if that makes any sense). It plays, however it is playing different variants of these,

Oddly I was on NOVER previous to opening nplayer and it gave me this,

sorry for the huge pics

You have to delete some files in order to run the program. :)

Nathan Jahreis, are you sure you set the frames to 320:240?  That is what it looked like when I had them set at other sizes.  If that is not it, I don't know what would cause that.  Maybe a reset of the calc if it also occurred in Nover?

It depends on the size of the video! :)

By the way, welcome to the new members on Omnimaga, and just as an head-up to everyone, in case: Try to use nPlayer and mViewer (image viewer) by using judgement when you are in school. I assume everyone will mostly use it to test how it looks like and show their friends what the calculator is capable of, or even pretend they're playing Crysis on-calc, but please do not use these two softwares to watch adult material that risk getting the TI-Nspire CX banned from schools. :P (I remember what happened at some schools with Pogs in the '90s)

Yay ! :D
Great work on this

Though, I may have one feature request: on the calc, it would be great if launching nPlayer leads to a menu that lets the user choose which video to play :D
(there may be grammar fails in the previous sentence)

I have planned to support file associations in Ndless. This will make easier to run ROM files with emulators or videos with nPlayer without additional menu (i.e. running directly .nvid files). I'm not sure how to manage the configuration though.

Are you having any problems generating them yourself?  I am hesitant to distribute that file because the original video is not mine.  If you are having issues and want a specific video converted, I can do it for you! :)

Your folder is named Video or video? the name is important.
Have got put nsplayer in Video?
The video name is video.cvid.tns?
have you got a screen of your folder?

Example :

Video
>video.cvid.tns
>nsplayer

That keeps on happening to me also!
Of course, I have a non-CX, so maybe the one I downloaded was just the demo.
