As rumored by one of our members, qazz42, it appears that there's something big happening to the NSpire soon. (See this topic (http://ourl.ca/9088)) It could be anything: so far no details have been "leaked" to the community, other than something will happen. This claim has not been backed up, but it has not been rebuked either. In a letter from Texas Instruments to NETWizz, one of the founders of United TI, (here (http://www.unitedti.org/forum/index.php?s=efa074b563b1a9f3f3c777cef13969f2&showtopic=9649)) it appears that this rumor may have some truth to it. Though TI is secretive, the announcement will be made sometime around Winter Break for most Americans (February or March). This letter also indicates that TI would like to add programming capabilities to the NSpire, but this may be a ploy to attract more customers. With all this information, however, it's safe to say that something's going to happen to the NSpire soon, perhaps a new OS.
-
definitely a new os for sure nomatter what. :D I cant believe all our emails are paying off :)
-
who knows if it means the emails paid off positively though :P
-
I hope it's OS because otherwise, I would have to get a new one D:
-
well they payed off as in they actually recognize something from us and they are seeing how we are asking a lot of stuff related about it in basically one setting.. kinda
-
I was surprised TI even gave such answer. I hope it's not a lure to attract more customers when in fact the new programming function is just extending the battery life by 1 minute.
But again, maybe this is in response to the Prizm.
-
If that happens, I WILL spam TI with "I <3 Prizm" message... >:D

And I will laugh my head off when you get sued by TI for being a nuisance.

and I will laugh when TI loses ;D

<Elaborate offtopic court scene>
Prosecutor: Yes, your honor. Exhibit A. A freaky looking picture asking "Daddy, would you like some sausages?"
Sean Connery: Objection your honor, I would not like some sausages, and I doubt Mr. Ashbad would either.
Prosecutor: Then you admit defeat!
Sean Connery: Never!
Richard Stallman: Cease this affront to freedom, or stand and fight!
TI: We will fight! (Pulls out two NSwords from their trust NSpire)
Judge: okay, who wants lunch?
Not to be continued...
</Elaborate offtopic court scene>
This is to show how much hope I have for Ashbad winning that case, and is therefore, mostly not but sorta kinda randomness.
-
Don't you mean yeongJIN_COOL winning the case?

>:( actually I would like tom green to give me sausages >:(
lol jk ;D
but yeah back on topic, do you think the Nspire will now support more open asm development?
-
TI wouldn't give open asm support. It would be more like a limited c compiler sdk, but why would we even need this if we already have ndless.
-
im sure if we hacked the Nspire without anything from TI, I bet we could do even more with what can be done natively :)

You mean, jailbreak the NSpire? that would be nice :D

Like what has been said before, C gets compiled to asm, so if TI has C support, they have no way to block asm. They could certainly disourage it, by not including asm tools in their SDK, but they can't block it.
-
Does C allow someone to do every single things possible in ASM?
-
I hope they open this calculator up more. It has a tremendous capability if we can program it (Ndless certainly helps)
Even though I will not update my OS before I know it is not some kind of an evil ploy by TI to block Ndless and games.
8ruler wishes very hard for a nice python programming for his Nspire
-
My real concern, though, is that if they decide to release a SDK, will it be free? When they released the TI-83+ SDK (Flash Debugger) in 1999, it was not free until 2003 or so. Hence why almost all old ASM games on ticalc.org are not APPs.
Also I still hope for an Axe-like language (on-calc programmable) for the TI-Nspire
-
That would be great but I still want it in a language I know
-
Do you mean the SDK? From what I gather, it would most likely be ARM ASM or C. As for Axe, it would be nice for 83+/Casio BASIC coders who can't stand C and 68k/nspire BASIC syntax.

Languages like python would be hard to implement because they are interpreted. Not that the nspire couldn't handle that, but it takes a lot of memory and is difficult to program. I would agree with DJ that an SDK would be either ASM or C. For a relatively simple device like a calculator you don't need very high level languages.
-
Ruler will take a nice C/C++ Programming. That would be good
-

I'm pretty sure there is asm subroutines.
-
There's no C equivalent for a number of low-level processor instructions. And even inline ASM is not enough in some cases (peculiar calling conventions, etc.).

You should preface that with "On an Nspire,"
I write Python for my TI-81 quite regularly.

I just mean asm code that is typed inside a C program. A few many of the subroutines that come with ndless use that.
-
Idk, perhaps it is a color nspire? With C and asm? Computer like resolution?
-
Or maybe in response to complaints about OS 2.1 size, OS 3.0 will remove 84+ emulation. O.O

Casio and TI are teaming up to create a new graphing calc, with the most limited programming capabilities to date. It's going to be called the PrizN. Advertising will largely be targeted at educational institutions and will feature the slogan "Kids can't handle too much freedom. This semester, send them to a PrizN."
-
I wonder what the N would stand for. O.O
-
Noob? (after all, TI would be a part of it) :P
-
Maybe that. :P

It will also have a horrible LCD that is barely legible, even for use in maths. :P

@DJ: PrizN is wordplay on Prison. ;D
