GameInformer (http://www.gameinformer.com) referenced Omnimaga due to Mrakoplaz'z nDoom (http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?board=153.0).
The article can be found here (http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2011/02/18/the-original-doom-running-on-a-calculator.aspx).
Omnimaga is growing in popularity in regular gaming websites such as NeoGaf. That's right! This article was referenced in NeoGaf, one of the most important gaming forums on the Web! The thread can be found here (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=422216).
We have to thank Mrakoplaz for making such an amazing game for the nSpire. I hope more members join our website and the activity spikes due to this piece of news.

Ohh, Ben Reeves wrote that article. I was wondering what he was up to. :)
It's quite cool. Congrats Mrakoplaz! ;D

I think you're confusing him with Ben Ryves. ;)

Yes, I am doing that. (Sorry Ben Ryves.)
Whoops. :(
-
I confused them too :D
I like people's comments to the article at Game Informer :)

congrats

Me too D:
And GameInformer got the video from Dorkly (http://www.dorkly.com/embed/11384/doom-running-on-graphing-calculator) lol.
-
yeah, i had to double take on that name :P
Ben Ryves, for any of you who may have somehow missed it, has been working on putting Doom (or the 3d engine, at least) on the 83/4 + line via his project Nostromo (http://www.maxcoderz.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=2848&start=15)
congrats to Mrakoplaz for making his debut project so ridiculous!
-
Wow, awesome! It's nice to see calc programmers getting some recognition! =)
-
Wow, this is nice! I wonder if Omni will get even more new members now... :P

Ooooh it's true ;D DJ's video is becoming quite popular.
-
Wow nice, this reminds me when Reuben Quest got featured on GamesRadar 2 years ago, although only the Youtube videos did, not the site. I guess that was why there were so many guests online earlier.
EDIT: That site picked it up too: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/107881-Coder-Forces-Graphing-Calculator-to-Run-Doom

Oh my god, Mrakoplaz has his game all over the Web now :P
DJOmnimaga demonstrates the game running on a TI-Nspire graphing calculator. This is an actual port of Doom called nDoom, and not a clone.
Unfortunately, it only runs for 20-60 seconds before a problem typically occurs, so the project is still a work in progress. According to DJOmnimaga, sometimes the graphics will get distorted, the screen will turn black, or the game will totally freeze. For a machine designed to calculate y = a sin(bx + c), I'm still impressed.
Heheheh

Looks like it's on Kotaku too, congrats! :)

Whoa, coincidence...
That's awesome, though. But then it's DOOM, on a calculator :w00t:
-
This is spectacular :) lets hope we don't feel the Slashdot effect.
-
O.O
...
I'm... not quite sure what to say. I guess I'd better go work on that Clickpad-crash bug, then.
And once again, a serious thank-you to all of Omnimaga for being such a great community! I know I said that multiple times already, but I really do mean it; You are just so supporting and friendly, it's worth pointing out repeatedly ;D
Oh, and a mandatory special thanks to ExtendeD and geogeo as well, for allowing this to happen in the first place!
-
Congratulations, Mrakoplaz! You truly deserve it! :)

lol :P

We should be fine, we survived both ones we had on 1and1. :P
Also I just noticed about Kotaku :D

Right now, there's 125 guests online./me wonders why...
-
I wonder how high it went yesterday? I was at work for most of the night. I know it has been in the 100s for 2 days, though, which means either it got featured on a popular site that doesn't post many news, so the news remained at the top of their list longer, or it is simply slowly spreading. I am curious if this would be digg/slashdot-worthy material (as well as the new TI-Nspire)?

There were 177 online earlier. Now I know why.

Definitely Digg/ /. worthy! I mean it's DOOM on a calculator, and not just any port. It's DOOM! Someone needs to post this!
Not sure about the CX, though. We wouldn't want to get in too much trouble...
-
Actually it's already on Digg (Doom). I checked earlier. It links to another site that picked the news, though, not Omni, although it sums up everything better for non-calc enthusiasts I guess.
-
Ah, probably because that site happened to have a button that linked straight to Digg.
-
Yeah probably. I wouldn't be surprised if that was on Facebook too. Also the Youtube vid has 70000+ views O.O
-

Wow, that's fast.
It would never catch up to a certain vid with 45 million, though :P

70000+ views, that's awesome!!!
EDIT: 113,981 views
More than all other DJ's videos together I think :P

It's at 100000 now. And no, it actually isn't higher than all of his other videos together.
EDIT: lol, a halfninja... The second sentence of my post was written after Scout's edit, but not the first sentence D:

I've noticed that sometimes a person will be going through an edit, and save it while my page still shows the previous version, and I go and quote them, I get the updated saved version. But now we're getting slightly off topic...
Almost 114,000 views and 2 dislikes. (Probably for the video quality and the blurring, neither of which can really be helped all that much) Also, I just realized when someone said that 73,000 wasn't near as many as a certain other video, I just realized what that video was. Wow, you've been in omnimaga how long graphmastur? meh.
-
graphmastur, about the dislikes, some people dislike just for disliking, I hate when people do that. But yeah they can have serious reasons too.
-
Most of those 45 million hits are probably from omnimaga members. :P
-
B)
We influence the Internetz.

Yeah, too true. And same for the comments (that's why http://xkcd.com/481/ is such a good idea :-).
-
Just post the video on facebook. There are only "Like" buttons over there. No one can dislike anything.
-
Lol yeah :P
Also I think I got 300000 views on all my 195 other vids, but I bet the nDoom one could eventually reach that. My second most viewed vid is the Montreal Canadiens Guy Lafleur return, then the Michael jackson Rickroll mashup followed by the Nightmare in the Rave song I made in 2007.
On my old Youtube account 1000 BPM to rule them all had over 40K views, though.

now on engadget

Captain, I see lots slashdot coming at the horizon.

Hehehehehe nice it's at 164k now and going up fast, congratulations to DJ, Mrakoplaz, Scout for making that program famous!

Yeah I posted it in the other news. Pretty awesome. I wonder if it will be Slashdotted too. I know it already made it on Digg, but none of the Digg submissions point to the video nor Omnimaga.
-
holy smokes...that is awesome

444.4K (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NsN2JIRGHAo)... I can imagine ticalc.org getting 500 errors once this gets released :P
-
It depends. Omni was just on a crappy overcrowded host. Ticalc.org might have a better host than what we had. Our current host won't get errors when there's too much traffic, but there are some small slow downs here and there (about 2-3 seconds longer).
That said I am curious if it will beat XXR weekly download record when that DDR clone made Endgaget front page 5.5 years ago? I remember it reached 2801 downloads a week one week, one more than VTI.

-
Oh nice, it went on Clubic :D
-
Nice! That migth have explained why our traffic and amount of online guests peaked again this Weekend even if it has been a few days since the game made it on other popular sites.
Also the vid is close to 500000 views now O.O
-
We have 69 guests right now :P
-
Yeah, but it was way higher Saturday I think. Normally we have between 30 and 55, depending of the time.
-
now in pcinpact: http://www.pcinpact.com/actu/news/62223-doom-texas-instrument-nspire-portage.htm :-)
-
That is awesome. Some of these sites are popular it seems because we had a lot of visitors today too.
-
ticalc woke up: http://www.ticalc.org/archives/news/articles/14/147/147267.html :D

Nice job Mraklopaz, as said in the nDoom forum. :D
