If you browse Omnimaga from a mobile device, you may have noticed a popup telling you about our newest site feature. The Omnimaga forums now support Tapatalk (http://www.tapatalk.com/index.php), a system for mobile users to easily navigate and browse web forums with a native app available for iOS, Android, Blackberry, and others. Here are the official Tapatalk apps:
- iOS (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/tapatalk-forum-app/id307880732)
- Android (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.quoord.tapatalkpro.activity)
- BlackBerry (http://appworld.blackberry.com/webstore/content/46654/?lang=en)
Unfortunately, the Tapatalk app is not free; it's $2.99 on the App Store, Google Play, and BlackBerry App World. But if you're a big browser of Omnimaga and other Tapatalk-enabled forums, it may well be worth the cost. Plus, there are some free apps and extensions out there that let you use the features provided by Tapatalk for free:
- Google Chrome (desktop) users can use the Tapatalk Notifier (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/plfhcjljnfjpfcbjpgnflfofmahljkjj) to get notified of new replies and PMs
- Forums (https://developer.palm.com/appredirect/?packageid=com.newnessdevelopments.forums) is a free app for WebOS that does what Tapatalk does on other smartphones
- Board Express (http://www.board-express.com/plans-pricing/) for Windows Phone also handles Tapatalk forums, with a free edition
Hope this will be a useful feature to make the forums more convenient to browse.

I would be fine with browsing Omni normally on my iPod if Omnom didn't keep growing in size o.O
-
^ That, and if it didn't crash every few pages :/
I just disable OmnomIRC before I close my comp browser, so it doesn't glitch up the page on mobile.
-
That's a pretty useful feature that got added here, it's a shame Google Play only accept credit cards as means of payment.
-
This is awesome. It shall be useful to me on my phone, as Omni lags and eventually crashes my android browser (even with Omnom disabled).
I guess the next step could be to have a free alternative, or something like the TI-Planet app :D
-
Free alternative would be cool!
And then all the android/iphone/ipod programmers here had work XD
-
I actually don't have any problems browsing omni on my phone. A few features don't work, but i can read and post just fine )(even if it can be a bit slow) I just use Opera mini. ;) I guess Tapatalk is nice for those that have issues though.

Hmm, as far as I know you have to pay like 100 dollar a year to apple to be able to have your app on their store.

Correct.
Not too bad if you're able to make (via sales, ads etc.) 8.5 dollars / month on the apps you make

last time I checked, tapatalk is *legally* free on a site called getjar.com for android devices
-
I can't find it? I found Convo (that free tapatalk client) but not Tapatalk itself.
And oh yeah that site, I was using it back in the time phones were using WAP and J2ME.
-
Hmm yeah I couldnt find it either. If your running ics i read it wont show up. If it still wont show up it probably expired :(
-
Just got it - this thing is pretty handy! Just wish it had IRC support though :P

Oh I meant for Android. It's ok if there isn't one for Apple. An alternative could be that the one who did the TI-Planet app makes the Omni one, since he already paid the money to keep apps there (unless it's $100 per app?).
The other alternative is having mobile users default to a different forum theme with fewer pictures or have the mobile mode (maybe WAP2) modified to be more complex and support img tags.
@Art I got a Samsung Galaxy 551 and I think I just don't have enough RAM to browse the site for an extended period of time. It scrolls/zooms/lets me type text at about 2 or fewer FPS, then after about 3 minutes, the phone vibrates 3 times as the browser hangs, then the browsers suddenly closes.
-
I saw this, but it doesn't support lower than iOS4...
-
Can't you upgrade? ???
-
The older devices can't run the newer OS because Apple is mean :( There's a way around it to "spoof" your software version, but it requires a jailbreak or at the very least a modified IPSW.

Offtopic sorry, but can you link me to maybe an instructional page or video? :o

Wow that sucks. That's like the total opposite of TI, who wants you to run the latest firmware (although I guess it's good to a certain extent)

Well it's not necessarily Apple being mean, it's just that the older iPhones iPod Touches don't have a good enough hardware/software that can handle newer iOSes. It's the phone/ipod, not apple

Apple wants their customers to keep upgrading to the new model (so people keep buying new Apple hardware).
It doesn't matter for TI, since a calculator is a calculator (not around here, true, but in general), and nobody (except us) would ever consider buying more than one. So TI has no reason to prevent users from updating their firmware, and they might as well recommend/force it so they can fix bugs patch Ndless exploits.

does anyone know if there is any free symbian app?
-
What is symbian? Is it like Taptalk?
-
Symbian is a nokia OS, but it seems like it's dying a quiet death, since more and more phones are getting android (or even windows mobile)...

I experienced windows mobile 6.1 and android 2.1, however I think that my nokia E63 with symbian fits me best. QWERTY keyboard and non-touch phones ftw :P
So... There's no symbian app, right?
-
i found some, but i won't list them here because of reasons :) just search google with "tapatalk symbian" and you'll find some versions, as i read it seems there are some problems though xs
and i have an android (touch) phone AND azerty keyboard :) best of both worlds imo xp
-
Do you mean the old monochrome screen Nokia phones that broke your leg when vibrating in your pocket and that could put holes in the floor if thrown from the top of a skyscraper? :P

Bug report: If someone posts an image link (using URL tags instead of IMG) to an image located at img.omnimaga.org, it will load some random topic instead of opening the actual image in a browser. ???
I think that Tapatalk thinks that any URL containing omnimaga.org is supposed to be an actual topic and tries to parse it as such.
-
That's weird O.o I wonder if there's an option to turn that off.
