Title: Omnimaga team ExtendeD
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on November 01, 2010, 01:17:47 pm
We are please to announce the addition of 5 new members to the Omnimaga Coders of Tomorrow programming group, 4 being TI-83 Plus programmers and the other a TI-Nspire programmer. After a slow start in late August, a sudden wave of applications were received shortly after Miotatsu left the team.

-First of all, there is Deep Thought, who won 3rd place in the recent Omnimaga programming competition. He recently released a game called Simul, which uses a concept similar to the popular Flash game called Multitask. He is currently working on an Axe Parser IDE. He knows TI-83+ BASIC and Axe.

-Secondly, there is Michael Lee, who have been programming Axe games for a while. He won 2nd place in the recent Omnimaga competition with a beta of his grayscale Minesweeper clone. He also got a few ticalc.org releases under his name and is currently experimenting with some form of 2D ray-casting for a RPG project called Light. The effects creates a sort of fog of war but are similar to an old TI-86 classic called Blinded by the Dark.

-Also, there is Squidgetx, another great Axe programmer who came first on the contest judging results and managed to get two ticalc.org features in two weeks with Space Dash and his port of a classic 3D Flash game Axe Cuberunner. He is currently also working on a RPG and it is called Ash: Phoenix.

-There is also Yunhua98, another great Axe programmer, who is currently working on a port of the classic Bomberman in Axe.

-And finally, we are adding a 5th TI-Nspire programmer to the team, one who opened this calc series to third-party development (http://www.ticalc.org/archives/files/fileinfo/430/43085.html): ExtendeD. For those who are new to the calculator scene, he is one of the people who worked on Ndless, the tool that allows TI-Nspire owners to run ARM9 assembly and C programs on their calculator. He is still working on Ndless and other projects as well.

Please welcome all of them to the programming team!

Sounds great... I think you meant something other than: "In third place, there is Squidgetx" unless they are all in a race or something.

They all have some cool Axe projects.  The Nspire is clearly the way TI is moving so its good to have somebody with as much talent as ExtendeD to counter their every move.

Oh I tried to find another way to say third, to not sound repetitive, but I guess it fails ??? Changed to something else now

Hahahahah

Good Luck!

Welcome to the team!  I just wanted to take the time to note to you 5 members that moving projects to "Our Projects" does take a little bit of time.  If you don't see your project up, don't worry, it will be there!

So how many staff members are there now?

Oh, wow.  I actually got in.
I feel honored.
[/minor feeling of shock]

That being said, I should really start to work more on my RPG - lately, I've been procastinating just a little.

Congrats to everybody else!

Junior year sucks. I'm actually in the middle of it too, but currently dominating my 4 AP classes :D

The only one of my classes that I'm not doing good in is Honors/AP English.  But the teacher is (literally) insane, so I just have to survive.

Ha Ha I know I'm just giving you a hard time.
Thanks for the tip, though. There are some things I'm still not too sure about in english :P
Congrats to everyone  :)

So how many staff members are there now?
15, including the managers and myself. I'm not really active in coding, though, but I'll return to it in a few months. I think the largest staff count ever was 26, but back then, only one member that was never staff had at least 100 posts so most of the time, the online list was just staff. During the final year there were more members but like 4 actively coding staff in the 20 we had. :P
So I just realized that I can edit *anyone*'s posts.....>:D

j/k ;)

Congrats to the others as well! :)
I can also change staff nickname colors to pink. :P

Wow how do you manage it? Someone had like 3 a few years ago and barely even had time to eat/sleep. X.x

Over here the busiest hi school year for me was the 3rd, but for my bro it was the 5th (final one). 4th is hard, but there aren't as many projects as in 3rd.

Well, AP calc BC is med-hard, but I get all my homework (and most of my coding) done in study hall (free period) that is conveniently right after class.
I got lucky and got a really easy teacher for AP language/composition
AP US history demands the most work, but all it means is that I have to spend a couple hours reading the textbook every week
AP spanish...the tests are hard, but so far I've been doing all right.

I think AP sciences are the hardest- my friends in AP chemistry complain all the time about their 4 hour labs....I'm glad I chose honors physics instead :P

AH I see. I only really took regular school classes except one year where I had hard maths. Most of the time I did my homework during the class, after finishing my other work. I started while taking notes :P

Sometimes I used the remaining free time to code. ;D

Well, I posted the staff hiring news several weeks ago. Only Bwang and apcalc joined, then other staff left the team. No one else applied. Now I post a staff leaving news with a small indirect notice that people are still free to apply, then BAM! 7 staff applications and 3 others who went close to submitting one. On top of that I got almost all of those apps in one day. Go figure ???

I guess it might be because people were not sure how busy they would be in school, which might explain why it took this long before we get more people in.

7?  I only see 5 new ones.  ???

EDIT:  hmm...  Calc84maniac seems to be the longest staying CoT so far.
Title: Re: Omnimaga team ExtendeD
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on November 01, 2010, 06:23:05 pm
Well, two got rejected because one of the member was still not trusted at 100% and the other had bad behavior recently and is too new. I think Jhgenius01, Qazz42 and MRide wanted to apply at first but finally didn't due to lack of free time or possibly not getting in.

Also to add more to why I was surprised at the large amount of applications, in the news it was saying we were not accepting anyone before November, lol. :P

quick question:

for people who uploaded a file to the archives before they became staff, does that get moved?
Staff are free to upload their stuff in both sections or they can request the file to be moved. Both sections is best for visibility, but if you update several projects at once, it can get hectic to update for you.

As for embedded rickrolls I think only admins can. ;)

Just wondering if I didn't meet some requirements, though.  Also, for the next two weeks, TAO is basically at a stand still.  At the end of these two weeks, I have 10 hours to either watch anime, or program TAO. hmm.... choices.

Yeah it got kinda big. We went close before, but only for about 2 months, since a few staff had no more time later then left.

The lowest we went to is 7, around Fall 2009, and the highest was 26, somewhere in 2006. Most of those 26 were inactive, though...

Over here we had 24 or 26 credits, I think, depending of the math class you took. However, it was 24/26 per 9 days, since your class schedule was based on 9 day periods rather than monday to friday. You had school from mon to fri, but It was like Day 1 to 5, Day 6 to 1, Day 2 to 6, Day 7 to 2, etc, depending if there are holidays. Some classes did not count in credits, if I remember, or maybe it was just one credit per actual class (which lasted 75 minutes)
