For the next 10 seconds, or if TI is slow and takes a bit longer to prevent so, it may now be possible to downgrade your Nspire from OS 2.1 to an OS older than 1.7. As reported in the previous OS 2.1 news (http://ourl.ca/6358), by Critor, the new OS by TI added an hidden anti-downgrade protection inside your TI-Nspire, blocking any downgrades to OS 1.1 (required to run Ndless 1.0) through 1.6. This protection was permanent: even if you downgraded to OS 1.7, 2.0 or 2.0.1 afterward, you still could no longer install an older one again. It was over: no more Ndless 1.0.
Could this have changed today? (http://ourl.ca/6474)
Nleash (http://www.mirari.fr/Xio2), by ExtendeD, part of the Ndless dev team, is a tool that allows you to break the anti-downgrade protection on all TI-Nspire models. Even on the Touchpad, it is now possible to install OS 1.1, but you will need a clickpad keyboard from a regular Nspire, as explained by Critor from TI-BANK:
You need a ClickPad keypad to use your black TI-Nspire with OS 1.X.
On the TI-Nspire TouchPad CAS, two additional tricks are needed, because you can't easily plug the ClickPad keypad, and the OS won't boot successfully with a ClickPad keypad.
If you keep the TouchPad keypad, the arrow keys won't work, and the rest of the keys will be all messed up...
Everything is explained in the TI-Bank news -> http://ti.bank.free.fr/index.php?mod=news&ac=commentaires&id=844
Remember that those tools are still new, though, so please use them at your own risk, especially if you have acquired your hardware recently!
How long will TI take to counter this one, now? ::)
On other news, the "new" Omnimaga forums has finally broke the 50000 posts milestone a few days ago and to my surprise, July is now the 2nd most active month in Omnimaga history. Approximately one year ago, Vegeta was breaking his scouter on our post count. On the old board, it took over 5 months longer to reach 50000. Traffic on the forums still appears to be up, too.
My activity may also remain sporadic for the next days to come, due to several reasons (http://www.starcraft2.com/), so bear with me if I take a long while to reply to important topics.

Bravo ExtendeD! Truly we cannot be stopped by The Man, much less TI! Downgrade protection? What downgrade protection?
And its good to see you back Dj :)

Aaah, ok, thanks for the clarification. Gonna edit news now ^^
-
This is awesome! Glad to see that we have won this battle! Now on to the next one unless TI surrenders...
-
YES! This was pretty quick, too.
Congrats to ExtendeD and the Ndless team :)
Now if only RunOS or Ndless 2 would magically appear...
-
Yay! Thanks ExtendeD!
And yeah, having Ndless 2 magically appear would be awesome! :P
-
Awesome!
-
Wow, that was FAST! Awesome work, ExtendeD!
-
All I can say is that was fast! :)
-
nice work ExtendeD! Now only if there was a touchpad patch for os 1.1.. ;)

What for? For the keypad ?

Yeah, that took a bit of my time yesterday, although I got owned badly (1 wins vs 6 losses... I wonder why they ranked me in the silver cup. My guess is that when I played the ranking matches, my teamates were really bad. In fact they never bothered to build any defense and expected me to defend them the entire time, wasting all my ressources x.x)
-
For all those people with the touchpad nspire non-cas: You can buy clickpad keypads from TI for $10 a piece, (though it will look a little weird in regards to the color scheme) and use ndless!

I wonder if stores sells them alone? It might be a small issue for people who are not allowed to buy stuff online (overprotective parents)
-
I don't think they are sold in stores, but people could always use the excuse that it is an upgrade to the math (game ;))features of their calculator. I don't think many parents would be against a relatively cheap upgrade to a big purchase like a graphing calculator.
-
Though parents, if they do research, might wonder why their child wants the keypad for the old version of their calculator, when the new version has better features (supposedly ;)).
-
MY worry is more parents who are so stubborn and close-minded about technology to the point of paranoia. Until I moved out of my parents home at 20, I was not allowed to buy anything online, because my mom thought my credit card number would get stolen by Ebay or any other site I put it on and that we would get robbed from all our money
-
lol, my parents are the opposite, my mom loves Ebay ans amazon
-
My mom just thought all online buying sites were insecure, no matter what expert tried to convince her. She heard bad stuff in TV news and she got scared of those sites. This changed after I bought several things online on Amazon and Ebay myself and got no issue (the only small problem being an item I did not receive and I got full refund)
-
I've only had one issue on eBay, and all that took was a threatening letter to the seller(took him almost a month to ship) to fix. `-`
-
Did you swear to vice grip him with your claws? (po-keh-mon reference)
Also, DJ, yeah, T.V. has been known to do that, you wont believe how many "internet scams" they talk about on the news, it is rather annoying. We were scammed once actually, I needed a music tutor, we found some place on the internet, parents gave them credit card number, I never saw that music teacher at all.... and we never got our 300$ back
Ebay on the other hand, my mom gets awsome luck on it, I dont though
-
Yeah often I see good deals, then I notice there's no international shipping :(
I wish I could get my hand on a TI-76.fr
-
I wish I could get my hand on a TI-76.fr
Why?
The TI-76.fr is just the latest TI-73/83+ hardware, with a 256K TI-83 OS in the 512K Flash-chip.
The only interesting thing to do with a TI-76.fr would be to flash a 83+ OS.
But we will need to write a 83+ boot code first using assembly, at the end of the 512K flash chip.
Then, we could flash a 83+ OS using USB...
-
Just for collection purpose. Heck, I even got a FX-7000G from 1985 :P I don't see why it's such a big problem to you if I try to get a 76... Canada is a free country, after all, so I am within my rights and you cannot stop me...
I am also curious how the OS on it is like, what functions from the 83/82 Stats are missing and stuff.

Why would I want to stop you ? :p
Have you gotten my email about the 76.fr by the way ?
-
Ok because I just said I wished I could get one, then you questionned why and it sounded like something I was not allowed to do or something.
And no I did not receive your e-mail. You probably sent it to the wrong address. My address is and has been o m n i m a g a @ g m a i l . c o m for the past 5.5 years.
-
Ok because I just said I wished I could get one, then you questionned why and it sounded like my choice was an heinous crime or something.
Just think about it for a minute: am I often telling you that your choices are heinous crimes ?
I was just pointing what the TI-76.fr was, in case you didn't know (because that model is quite rare).
-
I meant that in some sort of figurative sense. I just don't feel I need to explain myself about why I want to buy something in particular. I have to do it enough in real life. If it was just because you were curious if I knew what the 76 was, then I am sorry. (Actually I do know a bit about the calc, as I read about the calc several months ago, but I do not know the very exact differences between the 82 STATS and the 76.fr.)
As for its rarity, it doesn't help that most France Ebay sellers charges 30 euros on Ebay to ship their calculators internationally and that 90% of Ebay'ers won't ship outside their country. This limits my choice even more x.x
-
(Actually I do know a bit about the calc, as I read about the calc several months ago, but I do not know the very exact differences between the 82 STATS and the 76.fr.)
It's easy to mess up things related to those calculators... Let's sum up:
The TI-82Stats has the latest TI-83 hardware, with the latest TI-83 OS (1.10001).
The TI-82Stats.fr has the latest TI-83+ hardware, with a 1.11fr7 TI-83 OS.
The TI-76.fr has the latest TI-83+ hardware, with a 1.00fr5 TI-83 OS.
So the TI-82Stats and TI-82Stats.fr are very different! They're not the same calculator at all.
The TI-76.fr and TI-82Stats.fr are hardware-identical. Just the OS is different. Theorically, they can be flashed with a TI-73/83+ OS.
As for its rarity, it doesn't help that most France Ebay sellers charges 30 euros on Ebay to ship their calculators internationally and that 90% of Ebay'ers won't ship outside their country. This limits my choice even more x.x
For information, they'll pay 22.5€ at the post office to send you a calculator (less than 1kg, priority/by air plane). I allways show those informations clearly when I'm selling things on Ebay.
-
Wow, didn't knew that about the 82 Stats.fr x.x
Actually for the 76.fr, I was a bit more curious about the OS on it, though. Nice to know, though.
-
Great job on NleasheD! TI, what will you do now? :P
That info on the 82 STATS and 76.fr is really cool. Thanks for sharing Critor. :D
-
I had a screenshot of the TI-76.fr in action, for anyone curious, but I forgot the Self-test key at the time, so I decided to wait until I go on TI-BANK again and grab it there then make the screenshot. I'll post it later, hopefully.
EDIT: As promised: http://ourl.ca/6543/106683

Extended unleashed another blow against TI measures. Incredible work.
Many Nspire users rejoice. :)
