Title: Pokémon & Zelda arrive on the 84+C
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on August 20, 2013, 01:31:45 am
As the TI-84 Plus C Silver Edition eventually proved to be faster than it looked like, impressive BASIC and ASM games eventually arrived on that new calculator model. However, there was still something missing. Unlike TI-84 Plus gamers, who had access to many Pokémon (http://www.ticalc.org/pub/83plus/basic/games/rpg/pokemon/) and even (http://www.ticalc.org/pub/83plus/asm/games/ion/arpgcs/) more (http://www.ticalc.org/pub/83plus/basic/games/rpg/) Zelda (http://www.ticalc.org/pub/83plus/basic/games/rpg/text/) clones (http://www.ticalc.org/pub/83plus/basic/games/rpg/battle/), 84+C users were out of luck.

Well, thanks to KermMartian: After Tetric (http://www.cemetech.net/news.php?id=615) a few days ago, he now holds the distinction of not only having released the first ever Pokémon clone for this calculator, but also the first one to feature colors on any calc overall: Pokeman Red Blue Silver v1.337! At first glance at the description, the omnipresence of colors (one notable feature being the sun sprite with the battery indicator right of it) and download count (http://www.ticalc.org/archives/files/fileinfo/455/45522.html), it seems very impressive!

Only two days after its release, the Pokémon game, which seems to be a clone of Red, Blue and Silver versions combined together, already has 133 downloads and seems like it will rival Kerm's own Tetris clone fast. Another impressive feat is that he managed to squeeze the game into a mere 1047 bytes. Judging by how enthusiastic the author has been about the game so far and coming from someone who made Doors CS7, Tetric and SourceCoder, there is no doubt that a new masterpiece has been unleashed upon us!

A bit earlier than Pokémon, the 84 Plus C Silver Edition also saw the arrival of the best calculator Zelda clone since 2004: Legand of Zelda: Sord of Atari!

Featuring 8 dungeons and fast 160x240 kulurz, DJ's Zelda: Sord of Atari is also the first hybrid-BASIC game ever released for the TI-84 Plus C Silver Edition and, as of August 2013, the best Zelda game ever made for it. Due to most Zelda games being Japanese, bad English has always been a major issue in them, something that this new game attempts to fix. It is also uncommon in the way that playing it have similar effects as illicit substances and Casio PRIZM fumes (http://ourl.ca/10495), meaning that most of you will save A LOT of money. Don't abuse the game too much, though, because it is reportedly very addicting and several of the people who pushed the game into the top 10 weekly ticalc.org downloads have suffered from extreme health issues while playing it for too long.

Near the end! Download now (http://www.ticalc.org/archives/files/fileinfo/453/45375.html) to save Hyrule danger!

(Why all the good and first-ever-title-deservers 84+C games are ironically shitty? Pic related as it looks like Dave Strider from Homestuck is the most prolific author on the 84+C right now.)

The issue is that Runer112 didn't have a 84+CSE until recently and I'm unsure if he's regularly active on it. The original author, Quigibo, having left the community, doesn't help either.

I just realized that this news article was missing the link to the PRIZM Lan party fake news, even though it was supposed to have one. It's fixed, now :P
