Title: Respect/Karma re-imported
Post by: Eeems on March 06, 2014, 01:11:40 am
Hey guys! Your old karma/respect/post ratings have been imported from the old database!
Remember to keep an eye on https://docs.google.com/document/d/1HeBItJBoBIix_ErZa7wg1UInyLSAVWZ5XRwR3AjC8_Q/pub (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1HeBItJBoBIix_ErZa7wg1UInyLSAVWZ5XRwR3AjC8_Q/pub) to see what we are working on implementing etc.

Yay! I like the new features btw. Just keep in mind that the ability to see who downrated us could cause some problems with certain users, but at least it should make it much easier to see if somebody suddenly starts downrating someone in particular for absolute no reason every 10 minute (the new time limit between votes) >.<

It will cause problems at first, but hopefully the description part will help the more mature members grow in their ability to communicate effectively.
We will also disable viewing the logs for problem members if necessary.

The time limit will help deter people from abusing the rating system.

Yeah, from experience, the ones who would complain would probably be those who complains whenever they get a downvote in the first place, and those are generally not common (I think we only ever had three different users maximum doing it each year).

My favorite part of all, tho, is how it is now possible to see our total negative ratings separately from positive ones. With the old system, two users could have been seen as perfect contributors with 200 respect, but one of them actually has +500 and -300, meaning that he contributed even more, but at the same time posted a lot of questionable messages. Of course, though, there are multiple other variables, such as an user having a larger amount of following and thus, getting more votes, or people clicking on the wrong vote icon by mistake (especially mobile users). Even ExtendeD has a few negative votes.
