Title: RFG Image Uploader closes down; Omnimaga Image Uploader opens
Post by: Juju on July 02, 2013, 08:23:13 pm
Back in May, we learned the RFG Image Uploader (http://ourl.ca/6458) on img.removedfromgame.com (http://img.removedfromgame.com), made by {AP}, closed down the upload form (http://ourl.ca/6458.msg294693#msg294693) due to repetitive rule breaking and {AP} can't keep up with the moderation, to the dismay of several Omnimaga users. The already uploaded pictures will indefinitely stay online, though.

Fortunately, Deep Thought and the Omnimaga team prepared us a new image uploader hosted by Sorunome. It features image upload (obviously) and an easier way to moderate images that might be rule-breaking. An URL shortener is also in the works.

Visit it on http://img.omnimaga.org and share us your thoughts and ideas!

Wow this is awesome! It was a shame that RFG closed since it was so fast and easy.

Great work and a big thanks to everyone involved in bringing this to life!

Glad to see a new uploader come out :D. Also it's nice that it's an official Omnimaga one as well, since it's easier to keep in touch with the moderators. RFG will be missed, though, and I hope old RFG images remains online.

Btw any idea if the RFG images could be moved to Omni with the sub-domain name? (to avoid breaking old links)

Yeah, it's my server hosting.
Deep wrote the script
and geekboy is moderating it :)

That is great news.
But what extensions does it support ? I tried ".BMP", ".bmp" and they didn't work. ".png" works though.

there was only .wbmp in the list, maybe a typo? I just added .bmp, so now it /should/ support
png, gif, jpg, jpeg, bmp, wbmp

It features image upload...
:o, jokes aside. This is good news, I never used the RFG one and wasn't even that aware that there was an image hosting thing on omni.

RFG will be missed, though, and I hope old RFG images remains online.
They say so in the main post: "The already uploaded pictures will indefinitely stay online, though."

I recall telling you about RFG, not sure though.
I can also help moderating the images, if you want.

I didn't realize people still used BMP files, so it wasn't in the checklist.

Simply adding "bmp" to the list won't work because the script also checks if it's actually the type of file it says it is, and the image manipulation library doesn't support BMPs. I'll add my own BMP check and update the page :)

Is there a way that we can view our previously uploaded images? I always worried that I was uploading duplicates on RFG because I could not remember the name of the image.

oh, fail
but when updating, please not my changes on line 4&10 and all at the bottom I added a whole new block or code, the login system :)

It is not that I still use bmp, it is that TI-ScreenCapture still uses it -.-°

All right, script updated with full BMP support! They're validated just like any other file type, just in a different way.

By the way, in case you haven't noticed you can drag-and-drop images directly onto the page and get them uploaded instantly ;)

That's pretty cool. I've been using imgur until now but I'll definitely use this from now on (if I remember it that is :P).

yeah I hope they do. My main worry was if AP gets too busy and forget to renew the domain name.
It features image upload
O.O

I have some potential bugs and suggestions:
I tried to upload an image and it is instead recognising it as a duplicate. I think it is because the starting frames are identical.

Suggestions:
The ability to delete ore replace old images. I am currently keeping a project updated in my signature with a single screenie, so it would be cool to be able to update it in the image uploader and have it updated in my signature. I now have a few duplicate uploads cluttering the "previous uploads" which is why I was suggesting the delete option.

The duplicate check is done on an MD5 hash so that shouldn't occur. You're right—the MD5 only tries the first frame for some reason :P

What is the image URL that gets returned?

I don't think that's likely to happen (partly because it creates potential problems with other people using the image, partly because image hosting services don't usually do that, and partly because it might be too complicated for me :P).

The image URL that gets returned is
http://img.omnimaga.org/AmberBetaEx0-1.gif

I uploaded that image before, but the new image I am trying to upload is AmberBetaEx3.gif. I tried it a few times and double checked the image :/

I was wrong—the duplicate checker only checks the first frame (as Xeda suggested).

The script has been fixed and will be updated soon.

EDIT: Done

It fits Omnimaga's theme better now indeed.
Just something that strikes me: the light blue rectangle (as I'll call it) touches the bottom of the page, while on the forums, that rectangle doesn't (there is "Powered by SMF..." under it, on the dark blue background).
So maybe it would fit the theme better if you moved "Uploader is written by Deep Thought // Hosted by Sorunome" out of the light blue rectangle and out it under it instead (note, that is just my feeling, not a request or anything).

to be honest, that is something i don't like about omnimagas theme, the text down there pwoered by ezportal and all the stuff below, because it is almost un-readable with the img as a bkacground (especially the ezportal).
Ok, i over-exaddurated with almost unreadable (except of ezportal) but still.....

I only notice the ezportal thing now that you mention it lol.
But I still think the white text is readable on the dark blue background.
That doesn't really matter anyway, most people (non-admin people) don't scroll down in the uploader, so they won't notice if the rectangle hits the bottom of the page or not.

Meaning only i will see it as geekboy stopped modding due to too much IRL stuff XD

Actually the fonts still don't match the forums, since the default text is too large. :P

uh, that is only the font-size :P
Now i only need to make radio omnimag fit the omnimaga theme more :3

Uh, upload is currently disabled and the uploader will go down for some time soon. But not too long, the thing is i managed to heavily screw up and somehow recursively deleted some stuff off of root on my VPS and it'll be easiest to just re-initialize it all the way.
No worries, no data has been lost.
EDIT: seems like some images are still online thanks to cloudflare! :D
