Seeking for new staff
« on: July 08, 2006, 02:43:00 am »
First of all I am sad to announce the leaving of 4 staff members (2 who left a while ago and 2 who left recently). There is Liazon, who left a while back due to personal stuff, and Krid, who left due to lost of interest in calculators and inactivity. The two staff who left recently are the_unknown_one, due to internal dispute with some of the staff and members (mostly on the IRC channel), and CDI, due to the recent events that happened on the forums and IRC, which I have kinda partially caused. Also one of our staff, loki, is currently inactive because he can't reach us anymore (no computer access), he will be back as soon as he get access again. Like last summer there may be some activity decrease as well on the forums, as most people will be leaving for vacations, some at the same time, some later. We expect to see things back in action soon as the school start up though.

At the moment, we are currently looking again for new staff willing to join our programming team and contribute to this community. There is 4 spots avaliable. If you are interested register an account on the forums and send me an email to  o m n i m a g a @ g m a i l . c o m  or a private message here on the forums with some work of what you have done so far or screenshots or features of what you are working on at the moment and for which platform you are programming. It can be also on AIM, MSN, ICQ or IRC if I am online.

You can also use the staff application script found by clicking the application link in the top nav bar :)smile.gif

We accept programmers for TI calculators for any programming language, as well as PC game programmers/makers, and it doesn't have to be coding necessarly, we accept game maker/TGF/RPG maker users as well. Staff need to be active of course (and make sure to notify me if they are leaving for vacation at one point during summer). Don't be shy and contact me if you are interested in joining our team. :)smile.gif

If you are not accepted this time for whatever, feel free to stick to our forums anyway, as we welcome all new users all the time. When school starts again there may be a few more spot open for staff.

UPDATE: Liazon is back to staff.

Yeah, in all seriousness, this site deserves good staff.  Well, better than me, anyways.  o.oblink.gif  I still have to finish those buttons...

And, um, make a worthy, finished game.

I wouldn't mind coming back except:

1.)  I'm only working on a contest entry for tifreak's contest
2.)  By the time I'm done with that entry, school will have already resumed and I'd be bogged down again and too busy to work on anything else
3.)  You've shutting the site down a lot lately.  It'd kinda scary feeling.

Sorry I left and still can't really return :(sad.gif

I hope you have time to finish your contest entry, good luck on it liazon. I understand you'll be very busy afterward tho and remember you need to focus on real life.

As for the website shutting down all the time I understand how this scared ppl away, and I am very sorry about this. But it seems the only ones who truly understand my situation are tr1p1ea, CDI and alex. There is people who won't give me any chance to grow up. While others try to help me, others ruin it, and as I am pretty sensitive toward this stuff it is automatic to me to react to it, I am unable to ignore the bad comments and I dunno what to do about it

I'm currently testing the waters to see how this community is to having me apply as an administrator on omnimaga. I believe that a leader acting under a policy of laissez-faire (hands off, let the community govern itself - with intervention only as a last case option) would allow Omnimaga to foster the spirit that its been trying to capture since its inception. The current and new staff would act as a council, with the administrator making judgements only when there's a stalemate or argument amongst the staff. This would basically be the structure that Omnimaga has now - only instead of an active administrator who (no offense intended or implied) occasionally goes rogue when a dispute arises - it would have someone who would act as a guiding force, allowing them to do their job. As a moderator and intermediary, Omnimaga can continue to thrive. What does everyone else think about this proposal?

While I do believe that you'd be a fine administrator, judging by your work on CG, I'm not sure if Omni is the place for you to do it.  It's not your policies (which should work), but rather, your reputation here among the members.  Although you might be fair and unbiased, you face bad popularity, a lack of member support, and possible banishment if you even get into a not-so-harmful argument with the fellow staff.

Of course, I am just projecting my opinion...  the rest of the staff seems rather open to new things, so I may be totally and utterly wrong.  If I am, sorry, my fault entirely.  Personally, I trust you enough to understand how seriously you'd take this.

Another thing: You do realize you'd be an admin at an invisionfree site, right?  It's like working out of the basement of the internet...

Also, exactly what would you want to accomplish as an admin that you couldn't accomplish simply as a global moderator?

Nikky, I believe you will be a great admin or mod. Yes you have a not so good reputation with being brutally honest, but I believe you would do a fine job. You seem the most organized out of all I know, as you have a plan of how to get omnimaga going once more.

Point is, I think you deserve a second chance. To some you may not even seem to have a bad reputation, as I am comfortable with it.
