I've been at work all day, I haven't had time to look at it yet.

Ok, hopefully fixing it won't be too rough. Although this isn't impacting user experience much, it's possible that certain people might think that we're lying about our total post count or something to get on BigBoards or something lol (like I saw on Invisionfree before).

It's annoying how moving a site from a place to another can cause so much problems. I remember having problems switching TIMGUL from 1and1 to Aspiration too >.< (lots of broken theme CSS and stuff, along with missing attachments). The move to Ubiquity gotta be by far the least rocky one in the last few years, though, considering it almost went unnoticed if we didn't read the news.

I also don't notice slowdowns so far.

It's probably the least rocky because it's being handled by a professional ;)

Lol yeah. I personally just used shared hosting because I didn't want to risk myself into VPS management since I had no clue what I am doing, plus I did not know tricks to keep a site online while it moves and stuff. I was amazed at how during this move I could still post only seconds before it happens and that the site was already available for use right afterward. In my case it was usually offline for two days for certain people in Australia and such locations.

It's also good that it's being handed by a professional that has at least some free time to do it :P (Netham45 knew some stuff, but he often was away for a week or two, unable to fix issues that could occur right after the move)

You sure are a professional Eeems ^^
EDIT: I also noticed that, even though the switch, when doing quick reply with alt+s it sometimes says pretty long 'loading' up there, sometimes it even says that longer than the new-post-bot notices the new post.

Strange, it's snappier for me then it was before.

For me it was the opposite actually. Sometimes on the old server it said Loading, then I saw it appear in OmnomIRC. I had to refresh or wait longer to see my post. Now it's much more rare.

DJ_O suggested me to copy/paste my answer to the broken links issue here :

----

Instead of using http://ourl.ca/172700 just use http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?tttopic=14673.30 and when you encounter http://ourl.ca/172700 make a redirection to http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?tttopic=14673+n.30 where n is the offset.
Other than that, as Lionel said, you will nuke your google visitors, same for inner topic links, same for crossposting links.
So my idea would work I guess.
I do not get mad at people, I just want them to learn the way I learnt.

Thanks for cross-posting. I brought up the issue in the other topic first so the author is aware that he's probably gonna have to edit his Nspire project list (since he asked if people were still using it) due to the ID changes.

I think Eeems idea is to change links from

http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?topic=-2597.msg-54124#msg-54124
http://ourl.ca/19650/361831

To

http://ourl.ca/2598/54125
http://ourl.ca/22248/415956

Which was the problem, due to what Levak mentionned. My idea would have changed topic IDs to this:

http://ourl.ca/100000/1000000
http://ourl.ca/119650/1361831

In which case it wouldn't be too hard to get any topic ID under 90K to be re-mapped to its 100K counterpart and so on. It's fine if the 2005-08 topics won't redirect, but just as long as the more recent ones does. Else, there is Levak's idea.

I could probably just bump them to the latest topic id and up. This could break links to the old ones, but whatever.

Actually, just bumping negative topics up is another solution, but there would be some problems with SMF sorting: When checking topic lists, those topics would appear at the top (I tried on a test board before). Not that this is much of an issue for the New Posts page, since the old threads would disappear within weeks, but for regular topic listing, this could cause confusion about what happened to the newer topics and increased necroposting.

Basically, you would need to write a SMF mod that allows you to sort by date rather than ID. I'm unsure why SMF does that, because other softwares sorts topics and posts in the right date order, regardless of the ID.

Speaking of the old posts, will the few posts of 2004 ever be merged?
If it would have to be done manually i would take my time to do it, only because it would be cool IMO to have all of 'em :)

Actually that would be cool. They could be added right before the negative IDs. You could always do it manually then ask a staff to edit the IDs, dates, nicknames, etc, but like the Pre-Invisionfree news sub-forum, it's not guaranteed that you will ever be answered, so the 56 posts might end up remaining as Sorunome posts forever (also the fact that the old HTML news were converted to the current forums would make assigning IDs to the old posts very hard). >.<

EDIT: Regarding the inflated postcounts, something I noticed is that topics are now listed multiple times. For example, check those links:

http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?board=4.2700
http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?board=4.0

And there are plenty of empty pages too.
