Title: Shift, Trapped released and site updates
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on October 11, 2009, 06:02:42 pm
Thanks to Builderboy, the popular Flash game called Shift (http://www.shiftgameonline.com/shift_game.html) has been ported to the TI-83 Plus calculators:

Using xLIB and TI-BASIC, this version of the game offers a lot of the fun the original had to offer, while still running very fast, plus it offers a level editor. Winner of the hybrid part of our Omnimaga platformer contest, this update fixes some issues such as the ability to shift while jumping.

Builderboy also have released other stuff such as Trapped, where you explore rooms and unlock doors while avoiding enemies:

He also started to release some of his Java stuff in our download section, such as this mode 7 racing game:

All of them can be downloaded in our download section!

Talking about download section, we decided to now put more emphasis on it and as result, this is why the latest archives updates now show at the top on the front page and now on the forum index as well. Besides that, we updated the forum front page as well so it shows the latest activity in topic forms instead of posts. Both of these new board index boxes can be collapsed in the same way you can collapse the rest, altough the collapse buttons shows to the right instead of left, due to a limitation from the portal mod installed on the site

Files are added by Omnimaga staff. However, with the exception of RPGs, only games/utilities for calc and PC and music from Omnimaga staff can be added there. The RPG section is open to the entire community, though, altough we haven't updated it in a long while (we are unsure if we will update it anymore, since Ticalc.org new directories divisions by genre kinda obsoleted it to a certain extent. We might just add RPGs above a certain quality in the future)

That could be good and bad. on one hand it will save the memory from not very good quality games but on the other hand people who make a great game but just barely don't make the quality won't be able to let people play their game.

Edit:also it turns out i am not getting the cord quite yet however cooliojazz will give this game to me from his calculator.

Well, back in 2004, I opened a Omnimaga site pretty much just dedicated to calc RPGs. The goal was to provide only the good ones or at least those that were long enough and not just text and menus. They didn't have to be awesome, but it was an attempt at making the above average ones stand out more, because on ticalc, back then, every BASIC game were in one directory, same for ASM games. As a result, it was extremly hard to find a decent RPG among 4000 shitty games, and as I was a RPG fan, I decided to make a RPG site for the good ones, so they're easier to find. Unfortunately, I became having less time and motivation to continue updating the section so this is why today so few games are added there.

Now ticalc divided their download sections by genres and even put the text-based and battle arenas RPGs in separate sections, for people who want traditional RPGs, but I notice there are still a lot of crappy games there so it's still somewhat hard to find good stuff. There are even RPGs there that claims themselves as graphical games and have no screenshots, but when you try them, you realise it's still just text and the only graphical thing that got added was a rectangle around the screen

I really want to play the good RPG, but yeah... can't find them. That's why I am making TLM!!!
I really am working on it, just takes time. :P

You can check the download sections :P

but remember that by good I don't necessarly mean awesome, I mean above the average of the crap you can find on ticalc.org. Also, when I added a late game of a serie, like Final Fantasy X4 for example, I added the entire serie, which means FFX1 through FFX3 too, even if the first one wasn't as great. You can even find Illusiat 1 and 2 there :P

...but not three and four. (Except in 1-4 in French)

Are the seperate one and two in French or English?

Oh Illusiat 3 original (which now has english and spanish version since 2003) is there

Illusiat 4 original no longer exists, though, thanks to the Illusiat 2002 vs MirageOs incident. Back then I recreated Illusiat 1 through 3 from scratch, which was easy from memory. However, due to the complexity of some graphics and animations in Illusiat 4, doing such thing would have been impossible, so I never bothered to recreate it. The french versions bundled in Illusiat 2004 are all remakes of the first 4 games using Illusiat 12 engine and ROL2 ASM tools. An english version of this was underway, though.

Ouch, sounds like a bad/wierd glitch.  Tell us what happened.
