Since this morning, Omnimaga has been loading atrociously slow for many people. Although script execution times are very normal (usually below 0.2s), many pages takes between 10 and 60 seconds to open at all.
We do not know if this is related to the DDoS attack the server on which we're hosted was hit by a few weeks ago, but it is not related to OmnomIRC, as even pages where OmnomIRC is not enabled (such as the admin panel) takes an incredible amount of time to respond.
If this continues for another while we will be contacting our host and possibly temporary migrate back to 1and1 for the time being, although this would take a while since I do not currently have FTP access and the only admin who is familiar with site hosting stuff (Eeems) is very inactive lately.
UPDATE (04/13/11): Things seems to be running smoothly again now. Last night we started having troubles again, but it seems resolved as for now. Another website hosted on the same server as Omnimaga was apparently running a stupidly MySQL-intensive script.
-
so it's not related to omnom? Huh, strange.
-
OmnomIRC waits for everything else on the page to load before running itself(so all components are loaded), which is why it may not be working for a lot of people.
-
By the way, Netham45, did you change anything in OmnomIRC code on our side? If so, I wonder if it could be caused extreme server load or something? It seems less likely, though, as the site execution time is low. It seems more like a server latency issue to me.
Also OmnomIRC logs are very slow sometimes too, although not as much as Omni.
-
Bad to know it's the host problem :S
-
I haven't touched OmnomIRC on the Omni side.
I should also note that since part of OmnomIRC is hosted on Omnimaga, refresh times for the chatbox will be very inconsistent.
-
Does Omni requests remotely hosted scripts for OmnomIRC and spybot45 when loading any site page? I know that when your host goes down with SpyBot45, posting here takes about 30 seconds and in Opera server loading status bar it goes back and forth between sending request to your IP address then completed request to Omnimaga.org about 10 times before something actually happens.
-
Only when loading OmnomIRC pages and when posting.
-
Ok but I really mean before the entire page even starts appearing. Does OmnomIRC do that too? if so, then it might be best to temporary kill any existing OmnomIRC code for the time being, to see if this solves the loading issue. Maybe my host blocked your new server or something.
-
Nope, OmnomIRC doesn't touch my server until after the 'Load OmnomIRC' disappears.
-
Ok that's good, then.
I guess then we're pretty much forced to move back to 1and1... (seeing as this has been happening for almost 24 hours)
-
I am seeing some anomalies in my logs for OmnomIRC with loading times.
I'm disabling it to see if the problem goes away.
-
I don't think it's the hosting, some people like me are connecting fine, I think an ISP that is relaying to most people is down and causing the issues for them, which makes sense that others would be connecting fine because they go through different ISP's.
-
Ok, thanks.
In case this is the server, I asked for site access until about midnight so I can perform a full backup. I think the last time files were backed up was in Feb.
I just checked the traffic stats and everything seems pretty normal for me, except that today they're much lower than usual.
EDIT: Nvm, their server hours are messed up: it says 5:47 AM PDT O.O
-
At least for me its pretty slow, especially on pages with lots of file attachments (gifs, etc.)
Also, a few minutes ago omnomirc suddenly disappeard :-/
edit: actually, seems better now. Was omnom causing problems?
-
I'm seeing some pretty major performance issues on my server starting last night.
I'm trying to get back to my old server, it's still up, but I need my new server to get up(or down) to change the IPs back.
Right now it's hung on boot.
-
As of right now page loading is super fast for me. Usually page loading varies for me because my internet is slow and right now my router is pretty far away from my pc.
*edit*dunno if you're still fooling with omnomirc, but it hasn't been up since i checked omni today.
-
The site is running pretty fast for me right now.
-
I moved it back to the old server for now.
-
Why is the new server slow? ??? Shouldn't it be more performant since it's newer? ???
-
not always. It depends on a lot more than that, especially since the load is roughly the same, so the old server should be as fast as when it was new.
-
Yeah but I mean if he moved the site on a more powerful server, then why is loading worse? Is it because of misconfiguration and the like?
-
That's what it looks to be to me, I'm working with the host trying to get it straightened out.
-
Do you mean your host?
-
It was slow as molasses when I posted in the java help section. Then you guys took down the IRC and it was/is fine.
-
It definitively seems that Netham45's new server was at cause. He moved OmnomIRC back to the old one and things went fine again.
-
The issue I seem to be having on the new one is really slow disk I/O, some disk requests are taking 5 seconds to get a response to.
-
THis sucks. What does cause this? Omni had the same problem a few weeks ago, but the Disk I/O issue was preceded by a DDoS attack.
-
@Netham45: Strange, I hope you are able to get the issues with your host resolved.
-
I dont have any problems with long loading times... and those school PCs arent really that fast :)
-
Yeah it's because it was solved last night.
However about 15 minutes ago I noticed things were slow again for a while.
-
Is anyone else seeing really bad load times on the front page?
-
For me the front page is fine. It could be the GIFs, though, if you're on a slow connection. Two of the animated gifs are around 300 KB in size each.
However, OmnomIRC runs sluggishly. It sometimes stops refreshing.
Earlier I noticed loading became slower again, but it was far less bad than the other night. The other night most pages would take one minute to load instead of one second. O.O
-
I think it might be the GIFs because scroling is not smooth.
-
Actually there's a flash video at the bottom. Maybe it could be that. Personally I don't have issues, though, even on my Intel Celeron 2.93 GHz.
