For you Android users, I finally got around getting a credit card and paying the necessary fees, so the Android version of DJ Omnimaga's critically acclaimed Axe Parser game Supersonic Ball is now up for download on the Google Play Store for only $2!

But I'm hearing you, wait what it's now paid? Well, yes, sort of. The paid version is exactly the same as the one that was released a few months ago (but I had to recompile it with a release key instead of the debug one, and it's still up on GitHub (https://github.com/juju2143/supersonicball/releases)) and will likely remain that way when a new version goes up. That is, if you feel it's worth $2, feel free to buy it on Google Play, otherwise, if you don't or you can't afford it for some reason, you can always grab it on GitHub.

Get it on Google Play (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.julosoft.supersonicball)
Or here if you can't afford it, it's the exact same thing (http://julosoft.net/supersonicball/)

(P.S.: There is a way for you faithful Omnimaga members to get it for free on Google Play... Please contact me!)

Welp, on my Nexus 5 it just says "The app has stopped" D:

This is weird.

Well, this is still experimental, so your mileage may vary.

I use Android 4.4.4 by the way, so maybe it's only a lower version that is supported?

Flappy Bird was not removed by Google but by its author.

I'm on a Nexus 5, running cyanogenmod and it worked fine for me. I'd suggest rebooting and/or reinstalling the app.

Is it dependent on Cyanogen mod?

I doubt it, I'd suggest trying to get Juju to debug the error sometime. Nexus 5s are one of the easiest phones to debug due to them being unlocked etc.

Ok so I reinstalled the app then rebooted and still get the error. It says "L'application "Supersonic Ball" s'est arrêtée. What I noticed is that it actually switches to horizontal view before crashing, so it seems to at least do something.

There is probably a glitch in the game that causes it to only work on certain phones or updates.

https://bitbucket.org/MartinFelis/love-android-sdl2/issue/80/crash-in-android-444

Seems that crash is documented and fixed, I'll recompile the apk with the newest version of love-android next time I'll have time.

EDIT: Fix should be up for download real soon.

How long do they take to approve submissions?

They say a few hours, when I put it up last time it took an hour or two max. If you see the description go longer, the version number go up to 0.9.1b-something (instead of 0.9.1-RC1, that's the love-android-sdl2 version number) and you notice your phone is updating it, then it should be up.

Ok thanks for the info. Will people with notifications ON be notified that a new update is available?

Yes, but it won't install automatically because there's a new permission you have to approve. (which is Vibrate, dunno why but that might probably be useful later.)

Ok I don't know if it's because it's still the old version, but I redownloaded the app (the Google Play page had a different logo) and it still errors out. Gonna try tomorrow to see. How do you check what version of an app it is in Google Play? Actually on the phone it says version 0.1.1b-supersonicball-v0.9.3-beta 1.1

Also you should use a custom icon. :P

I should really design one, yeah... Next update.

Btw any progress on figuring out the issue that prevents the game from playing on my Nexus 5 in particular (even the update did not work even after rebooting/reinstall)? Is it simply dependent on Cyanogenmod or conflicting with any other apps I installed? Also does it require rooting (assuming Nexus devices aren't rooted by default)?

Or could you have uploaded a new version that lacks the fix by mistake?

Turns out that yes, I probably forgot to recompile the C++ parts of the app. Another version should come soon.

Edit: It's uploaded! With new icons! So yeah I pretty much accidentally released the same version and I had a hard time figuring out what my mistake was. Which was the fact I thought the parts written in C (which is most of it, the Java parts are just pretty much a wrapper) recompiled when I told the Java parts to recompile but it didn't.

Now ogle the swell new icon I made.

Edit2: Anyone have an OUYA?
Title: Re: Supersonic Ball now up on Google Play
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on September 13, 2014, 11:26:48 pm
IMHO the icon should probably have the title as minature or perhaps just be an icon showing the title background with the text as miniature on it and the ball, but I guess that can do as well.

And nope I don't have an OUYA, but AssemblyBandit does. Maybe you could PM him to ask if he could try this in it to see if it runs well?

Also in Google Play the logo looks weird on a gray/green background. :P Maybe you could add the pink background thing behind so it's not transparent?

EDIT: Btw the new version works and looks nice, but I have some suggestions because it seems kinda unpolished/rushed in general IMHO for a paid/donation-ware game:

-Make sure the max possible game resolution is 480p, so that it increases the frame rate (although if it requires stretching, I assume it won't help, right?). Even on my Nexus 5 I get about 12-16 FPS max and the calculator game ran at 20. Also, the fact it adjusts depending of the phone screen makes it unfair for people who play with lower resolutions, because you see the floor/ceiling pattern coming earlier, making it easier to dodge obstacles and thus, getting better highscores.

-Unlike in the calculator game, the cloud background in level 3 isn't scrolling by itself. Normally, in the calc version that background scrolls to the left. There's a similar stage later in the game where the background scrolls in the opposite direction.

-You should add icons on each side of the screen to make controls more intuitive.

-Perhaps animate the title screen logo like in the original and HP Prime versions?
