Title: TCAP, a French version of HCWP!
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on October 14, 2011, 10:36:38 pm
T'as une Calto? Allons Programmer!

One year ago, Raylin and KermMartian of Cemetech were introducing "Have Calc? Will Program!" (http://www.cemetech.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5172). Usually refered to under its acronym HCWP, this is a weekly gathering of calculator programmers from Cemetech, #ti and some Omnimaga members, on a voice chat service called Tinychat, where instead of discussing calculators, programming and miscellaneous stuff solely through a text medium, calculator community members would do it via a voice chat protocol instead, allowing a closer interaction between community members. Every Wednesday at 8 PM GMT-5, people gathers together at http://tinychat.com/havecalc and talk. HCWP celebrated its first year anniversary (http://www.cemetech.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6886) last Wednesday.

However, unlike Cemetech, Omnimaga is frequented by many French people and is affiliated with two major French calculator websites. While they could join Cemetech's HCWP conferences, the language barrier often becomes an even bigger issue through voice communication mediums than text ones, and we thought that it would be a nice idea if Omnimaga had a French version of HCWP.

So tonight, we are introducing TCAP, which stands for "T'as une Calto? Allons Programmer!", the same name as the Cemetech's English counterpart, although in French. While HCWP occurs on Wednesday evenings, TCAP will occur on Saturday afternoons, starting at 1 PM/13h00 of Québec time and 7 PM/19h00 of France time, starting tomorrow afternoon/evening. So basically people now have two options for calculator voice chat conferences. We hope that you enjoy it and we hope that if Juju and myself come online sometimes that you do not have too much trouble understanding our Canadian accent. :P

Link to the new TCAP voice chat room (for French): http://tinychat.com/tcap
Schedule: Every Saturday, 1 PM/13h00 GMT-5, 7 PM/19h00 GMT+1

We hope you got a microphone and even a webcam, although it is fine if you do not have one of those, although we hope some at least do so it won't defeat TCAP's purpose. :P

EDIT (Sat. 18h15 GMT-5): The first edition of TCAP was an overwhelming success, over 15 people attended, with at least 8 with their webcams, including several members of Omnimaga, TI-Planet, Espace TI and Planète Casio. Hope we'll see you next week!

We were 7-8 cams earlier, before DJ joined, but nobody really talked. Then everyone went to eat, I think.

Yeah. Well remember the English one sometimes has no prog talk tho. Also it can be about general calc stuff, although preferably stuff other than "Hi how do i tern my clac ON? I'm n00b ciao takes too long to answer" We talked a bit about calc sound and it was kinda interesting although at one point there was a lot of lag, like Adriweb and Eiyeron sound cutting off while they talk, so some parts of the convo might have been unheard. I think it's probably because we hosted it on an american server, so latency became an issue at times.

I hope next Saturday I can come for much longer than 45 minutes. I had to go work.

Advice: Close Facebook while on Tinychat! it seems to reduce lag considerably.

Yeah, when I made my demonstration with my calcs and my electric guitar, was rather interesting.

Yeah true, you should maybe make a topic about this at one point, to explain how to listen to calc music using a guitar ampli (or the guitar?). We all knew the AM radio trick for a decade maybe, but I am not sure if a lot of people know about the ampli trick.

In fact, it was me who discovered the trick I think. It works pretty much like the AM radio. In fact it's exactly the same principle. I'll try to get around to record a video about it :P

Ah I see. Yeah I was wondering since I've been in the TI community for over a decade but did not find anything about that trick before.

Is English allowed? :P

EDIT: If I'm correct this is at 6 o'clock AM and 6 o'clock PM in Belgium.

It's preferable to use French, else this would kinda defeat the point of TCAP. After all there is already an english one. And it's 7 or 8 PM in Belgium I think.

That said if the timezone is an issue for HCWP, you can always join during mornings of your time, because I saw some HCWPs that lasted until 11 AM-12 PM on Thursdays of belgium time.

On a related note HCWP is tonight.

Ah. I see. Too bad I don't know French. It's a pity too I don't really know anyobody on Cemetech. Anyway I don't think I'll try it yet.

Yeah actually on the Cemetech one some Omni members come too, though, although they are mainly members you hardly see even on Omni since they rarely frequents Omni during morning and afternoon while you are on.

Also remember it's currently going on right now :D

Lol. We used to have many dutch members, but I have no clue where they went. It seems in European countries, interest towards calcs doesn't last too long, especially Germany. In France it is a bit like that to a certain extent too, but not as much.
