Title: Testing new bot-automated front page news article system
Post by: Juju on July 10, 2011, 03:38:06 am
Because sometimes we are a bit late onposting news articles on our front page, and because we try to expand our scope towards new subjects, we thought that it would be a great idea to automate the process of posting news. As a result, tonight we have installed a new forum feature: PostBots. Basically, they are bots that crawls the entire web for news content that is relevant to our website.

However, we discovered that this new software was shareware after installing it. As a result, it caused the bot to advertise Las Vegas Florist websites directly on our front page news. As a result, we have been forced to remove the mod immediately, although some of our users seemed to be interested in the new content and potential site expansion. In the future we will see if we change our mind and put it back on.

Actually I want to read more about these Las Vegas florists. It would be awesome if we could have news like that, instead of this calculator stuff.

Brown text means fake news, right? I was about to say, I hated it when shareware deceptively waits until you've already installed it before announcing itself as such, and posting irrelevant advertisements in news is just plain evil. :D

Lol yes, brown means fake :P
It was from a real incident though just minutes before x.x We fixed the issue that allowed the bot to post in the news section though so this shouldn't happen again.

Indeed, I'm quite bored with calculator stuff, it's cool, but Las Vegas Florists totally beat Calculator Stuff, 10-0.

Is it sad that I just amused my self by reading through various spambots' topics in the Trash Bin?

Some permissions we forgot to change when we added in user posting levels. Anybody could post in the news but it's been fixed.

That was probably when DJ_O added the ARS group.

No not the ARS, it was specifically the user ranks ( based on how many posts you have ). They all had permission to post in the News board.

Ah ok. DJ told me he thought he messed up there. Also dunno if you recognized his style in the first post.

Nah, Darl181 linked to Mario's comments in the Project M thread, and then annoyingorange must have remembered that Mario made that poll.
Let's see...that makes a grand total of 13 posts for me D:

Interesting. Maybe it's just a Chicago thing, being a Mario fan ;)

Now look what you've done Juju. Now I know what kind of makeup I can wear when my Psoriasis breaks out. Fantastic!
I think we should definitely keep this new system. I don't know how I've lived without it!
