Hello everybody,
As some of you may have noticed, TI-Bank became unavailable ("403 Error") a few days ago, on August 19th, 2011. This occurred because our host, "Free.fr" suddenly closed the website, and said that it was officially because of the presence of local files being used as databases.
In fact, the main reason was probably the already-high and growing popularity of TI-Bank : we had up to 110,000 visits per month, lastly.
We contacted Free.fr, and they rightly asked as a prerequisite to the reopening, the removal of several thousand files, and disabling the statistics module (attendance, history ...) which are an essential feature of community websites.
The main actors of the site, which are Critor, Levak and myself, and in addition to Lionel Debroux, had meetings in emergency, and we have worked very hard (and even day and night for some of us ...) to recover backup files and databases of TI-Bank, finding, getting, configuring the host, buying domain names, restore files and databases, completely remake the whole "portal" of TI-Bank, which was based on an old and completely obsolete CMS with many vulnerabilities, and its full integration with the PhpBB3 forum, customized by ourselves.
(Moreover, the personal investment is not : the cost of domain names + hosting is already more than $350 per year.)
So... We are pleased to announce our new website : TI-Planet.
TIPlanet (or TI-Planet) [Edit : ] is *now* available on http://www.ti-planet.org (http://www.ti-planet.org) or http://www.tiplanet.org (http://www.tiplanet.org).
Here are the changes and benefits of TI-Planet:
- The speed and overall processing power of the many users connections will normally be higher
- The overall design has been completely remade
- The forum and the portal (including modules) were merged
- A single and universal login (based on the forum) was set up.
- Existing members of TI-Bank still have their accounts working on TI-Planet !
- The News are now fully integrated into the forum, and members with the rank of "writer" (ask on the forum to become one) can post articles to the portal
- Archive Management (file downloads) has been improved
- Etc. etc ...
We wish all former members, visitors and regulars users of TI-Bank, a pleasant moment of discovery of the new French reference website about TI calculators, and we thank you all for now updating your links to either www.tiplanet.org (http://www.tiplanet.org) or www.ti-planet.org (http://www.ti-planet.org).
Thank you very much, and looking forward to seeing you soon on TI-Planet,
The TI-Planet administrators
Adriweb, Critor, Levak, Lionel Debroux
Just because you still have to wait... ;)

This is great news for the community!
Happy birthday, TI-Planet!
-
Thanks !
(fixed the image)
-
I'm glad it's coming back and that it will run on a better server and CMS. Good luck! I hope you can manage to get all the old members and visitors back. It sucked that there was no more french TI news site for a while D:
You oughta remove that image, though, because now whenever I click Omnimaga.org front page or this topic, I get prompted for TI-Planet password x.x (EDIT: Thanks)
-
(fixed the image)
Thanks, it was broken, since it was password-protected...
-
awsum, simply awsum.
Nothing else to say, really. awsum.
-
Nice !
Do you know when it will open ?
-
Just :w00t: !
Can't wait for the opening
-
Yeah ! :D
And do you have to remove Mic's contributions as he wanted ?
-
Yeah ! :D
And do you have to remove Mic's contributions as he wanted ?
It seems so.

Looks pretty. :D
-
Thanks !
-
(I'm French)
The name looks like Planet-Casio ^^
Good luck with this website ;)
-
Love it.
Are all the posts, news and programs safe ?
-
I can't wait to see what will come out of the site. :)
-
Love it.
Are all the posts, news and programs safe ?
Yes.
But Mic's news and "programs" will have to be removed (at his very unpolite request, publicly available in the chat logs).
-
Very nice, can't wait to see it open :)
-
wow, does everyone on TI-Bank know? Congratz!
I still can't figure out what exactly happened, but its good things are getting fixed. Time to edit some links... :(
-
This is wonderful! I missed going to TI-Bank and I am glad to see it coming back! :)
-
So basically as a trade-off to not giving Mic power you have to remove his contributions? I guess that is better than what I thought that could happen (given some events on yN years ago). Also I saw the screenie and it looks nice. :D
I hope you can recover your traffic and forum activity from the long downtime and especially the URL change.
@Totoyo yeah actually there used to be a Planète-TI-83 website back in 2000 too as well as a TI-82 one around 2003. I kinda like TI-Planet, though.
-
Thanks DJ_O :D
With a good indexing and SEO, we should hopefully get most our traffic back, and we're looking at ways to make most people know...
-
That's good to hear. I just have bad memories of what happened to MaxCoderz in 2006. They lost their .net domain name then switched to .org, but they never actually warned the members of the forums via e-mail or updated their program readmes. As a result, even after 3 years, people still thought MaxCoderz no longer existed.
Also just a long downtime can hurt a site it seems. For example, after United-TI and Revsoft went down for a while a year or two ago, their forum activity dropped considerably afterward (although this was not the only reason)
-
I hope that 10 days of outage during the summer break was short enough to make regular visitors think it got definitely closed...
With enough publicity and links all over, it should be good.
By the way, I've set up Google Analytics on TI-Planet, so we're going to see all the statistics right away and hopefully see a growth over time...
-
What about 'downgrading' the Ti Bank site, as Free.fr asked and adding a notice that the main site has changed?
This isn't then a direct redirect, so I guess it doesn't break the TOS.
-
What do you mean, "downgrading" ?
I think we'll put a link there to tiplanet, but I don't know yet...
-
congrats adriweb! please let us know when the website will open!!
-
O.O nice! Ill sign up once it opens WOW
-

I think he means removing everything that ate resources on Free.fr and then replacing the TI-BANK site with a page saying TI-BANK has moved and became TI-Planet.
-
congrats adriweb! please let us know when the website will open!!
It should be opening in <= 6 hours, but I dont have a specific time in mind.
and @DJ_O : Oh, ok ; I think that's what we will do.
-
WOW 6 HRS I thought a week this will be awesome!!!
-
@Adriweb, yes, what DJ said :)
@critor, oh, forgot that Mic still had a share :/
-
http://www.tiplanet.org (http://www.tiplanet.org) is open !
-
w00t \0/
-
Awesome! You should edit the first post!
Btw I love the site looks. The only issue that could possibly arise are people who got something like a Pentium III or 4 like Geekboy1011, where the translucent divs might cause site scrolling to be extremly laggy on their machine. A solution could maybe be a theme chooser on the front page (available to guests too) where people can switch to an alternate theme with no div transparency. Otherwise it looks pretty great. As for me scrolling is only choppy in Opera it seems.

I don't get scroll lag and I'm on an equivalent to a Pentium 4 ( x86_64 AMD Turion(tm) 64 Mobile Technology ML-37 ).
An alternate theme for lower end computers would probably be good though.
-
That's an awesome site. Hope it turns out better than the old one.
-
Weird, it must depend of the browser and video card combination then. In Firefox and Chrome it scrolls smoothly, but in Opera it's a bit laggier, while with some people, Omnimaga scrolls fine in Opera but it lags like mad in Firefox.
-
With my computer, Chrome is the fastest.
-
for me : IE9
/me runs (but it was actually true)
-
Yeah ! Je vais regarder ça. :)
-
On a side note I think users active in the past 5 minutes should be changed back to 30, like on the Forumactif board. At 5 minutes it's harder to see who was online recently and it makes the forums/site look less frequented, even though some people just visited it. It would also be consistent with Omni, UTI, Cemetech and TI-Freakware :P
-
I just saw this.
Congratulations! :D
-
Thank you all for your support! :)
I'll start newsing again very soon ;)
-
Hmm... Is Google translate from English to French any good? I can understand most of the translated text from French to English, but I don't know about vice versa. Should I register?
-
http://www.tiplanet.org (http://www.tiplanet.org) is open !
Yay signing up now!

W00t, this site looks amazing!
So am I :)

it is great

That reminds me, will Casio-BANK continue to exist? It might cause problems with Planète-Casio if it was ever renamed to Casio-Planet, though.
-
Mic has never published a news stating that he was giving Casio-Bank to me.
So I won't support Casio-Bank anymore.
Which means that Casio-Bank is dead.
-
Which means that Casio-Bank is dead.
But it will remain on-line, innit ?
-
I see. That said, to be honest Casio-BANK arrived pretty late, though, long after Planète-Casio became active and established in the Casio community. As a result it had some quite fierce competition. However, are you still planning to have some Casio sub-forums on TI-Planet like there were on Forumactif?
Also I did saw the other Mic blow up earlier x.x http://www.pastie.org/2453619 (444749 was him, then later another ID, which, I presume, was most likely after he got banned, although I did not copy that part of the logs). I wonder if he realizes I myself got banned from Omnimaga a few times before (not even able to view the site)? One of the ban lasted 4 days. If I shared the same opinion as him, I can't imagine what I would have tried to do to Omni those days.
Also I assume eventually the plan is to put TI-BANK online again as it was, but without news/uploads by Critor/Levak/Adriweb/etc and their forum posts, nor the PwsPhp updates by Critor/Levak?
-
Is there an english section on TI Bank?
-
Nope. I think there was talk about opening a small sub-forum for English, like there is on Omni for French and German, but I'm unsure if it will be done.
-
oh well. cool design though!
-
Yeah I agree. Maybe it's a bit choppy in some browsers during scrolling but I love it. I guess what needs to be done now is:
-Fix the bug that causes pages to not load 80% of the time, forcing me to refresh like 4 times until they work. (All I see is the planet background). That bug doesn't happen on the index or the forum index, though, just in topics or the archives.
-Maybe look into the server load issues to reduce the loading time (10 seconds per page sometimes). However, loading time on the forums is a bit faster than on Free.fr.

Fixed, but it was general to all the pages, thus ...

The long time to load is due to news pictures, not the website itself : the background is only a 200KB image.
-
Ah ok I see. Do you think they could be reduced in size or something? Or maybe there could simply be an alternate theme that is similar but more optimized for lower or farther connections.
-

Animated Gif of 500Ko ... dunno :p
-
Oh I thougth you meant the images except the animated gifs. I meant for example, are the site theme images and background a total of 8 MB together or something?
-
No no : 1,32 Mo (1 390 081 Bytes)
Edit for those who didn't follow the discussion : it is TI-Planet size without content image, just background/icons and stuff like that.
-
Ok thanks for the clarification. One thing that might not help is that I live oversea, so that already has an impact on my connection speed to French servers, except really fast ones.
-
You need http://www.ti-pla.net/ ;-)
-
Actually the above might be nice indeed. Maybe as URL shorterner? (like Cemete.ch and OmniURL. Note that we didn't use Omnima.ga because apparently it was incredibly expensive)
-
Another url shortener seems cool, but unnecessary. There are so many out there. Or does it integrate well within a forum?
-
.net ?
But it will break my tiplanet logo :'(
(http://tiplanet.org/forum/styles/prosilver/theme/images/tiplanet_header_logo.png)
-
I think it could be an alternate URL.
so you won't have to change the logo
-
I looked at http://ti.pla.net but it looks like pla.net is taken even though the domain seems dead.
-
what about ti-pla.net?
tipla.net is taken for a company named TIPLA
-
I think http://www.ti-pla.net looks OK (even tho it's not *that* great), but htttp://ti-pla.net looks weird lol.
But still, who's gonna pay for these domains :P
If we setup a donation system, I'd totally go for it :D
-
Yeah it would definitively be more suitable for an URL shorterner.
Also I heard that sometimes having two domains for one site can be bad on SEO, so it's best to keep one of both as the main one. Maybe even have tiplanet automatically change to ti-planet when using it.
-
http://ti-pla.net looks pretty nice for me.
-
As many told us, tiplanet was a bit slow sometimes and for some people.
We optimized tiplanet so that it stores in a html cache file all "static" widgets such as last posts, members' calculators etc ... Then it loads faster and treats the SQL server so that it can handle more users/queries at a time. On the other hand we've put a light theme without any transparency for mobiles and those who want it (look at the link below the Chat box named "le site est lent ?")
http://tiplanet.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=115685#p115685
-
Awesome Levak! I already noticed some slightl increase in speed lately and now it seems even faster. Good job!
Also even on my comp I think I'll use the light theme for this browser, even though I like the other one the most (both are nice actually).
On a semi related note, does anyone else here were around back when TI-BANK was still called TI89Prog? I just kinda realized it's the 2nd time the site changes names O.O
-
I'm glad to see TI-Bank has been succeeded by a new website. The community wouldn't be the same without it. :)
-
TI-Planet is now faster with an asynchronous loading of lateral panels
The tchat has been moved into the central panel for visual optimisations
http://tiplanet.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=116222#p116222
Hope it will be better for everyone =)

Looks nice, but the advertisment (in the soutien financier section) doesn't show up. (Although I guess those with their ad blocker won't mind)

I know about that, I was talking about it to Adriweb the past 20 minutes but it seams that he left ... so I posted the news :D
-
Ah ok I see now :D
-
Real and automatic TI-Planet mobile version !
http://tiplanet.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=117146#p117146
-
And there's an interesting TI-Planet app on the Apple App store too! O_O (I'm too lazy to link to it though... :P)
-
Looks nice Levak. I already got the other TI-Planet app installed, but I'll check that one out now.
-
I love the theme. The only quirk I don't particularly like is that the chatbox's textbox has a cursor: pointer style, which feels weird to me :(
That mobile version looks great, too. What does the app do? The same stuff as the mobile site?
-

I guess the app supports more features like posting on the tchatbox.
The mobile version is on priomary stage, I deleted lot's of features like extra links.
-
I'm the one who made the iOS app ;)
It facilitates the access to the website (especially now with the mobile version), but it's mainly a news reader, that parses quite well the news from the RSS.
On the next version, there's social integration etc.
btw, it's already got something like 300 downloads ;)
-
It would be nice to eventually have something like that but for Omni and Cemetech. Also is there an Android version of this coming soon?
-

Well, now there aren't be any other problems like Android with the mobile version :p
Tell me if the display isn't correct, I use lot's of CSS3 features. I haven't got any android phone to test it.
-
Oh I thought this one was only for iPhone too? ???
-
Oh I thought this one was only for iPhone too? ???
It is a iWebKit based theme but it is not only for Iphone x)
I can display it -but it has a blank theme - on my LG Renoir (which has a private flash OS).
-
Ah ok. That now explains why I couldn't find that app in the Appstore. I got the other one.
