Title: The Omnimaga member groups
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on March 02, 2013, 02:06:40 pm
On Omnimaga, there are various member groups. First of all, of course, there are the regular ones with levels, for which extra features can open up after a while (eg the PM system, shoutbox, no longer requiring approval for archive files uploads), but there are also staff groups:

-Support staff & Anti-Riot squad: If you use "Report to Moderator", they are usually the first to arrive.

-Editors: Those people have the ability to post news on the front page. If you discover something newsworthy, feel free to PM them.

-Coders of Tomorrow: Those people are part of our programming team. They mostly work on calculator projects and help new coders.

-Administrators: Site administrators. They can moderate, but they also have access to forum files. If a member has 49000 posts, an user ID of 1 or a nickname that contains the word "Omnimaga" or its initial "O", it doesn't necessarily mean he is administrator. When you have request/concerns for administrators, please PM/e-mail Netham45, Eeems, Shmibs, Deep Thought and Qwerty.55, not me. Thank you. :P

That should clarify stuff.

Also note that I'm no longer administrator either since a while, so I can't fix Omnimaga when it's broken and any request to do so will be promptly declined in a friendly manner with a redirect to actual admins.

CoTs can still wield the banhammer though.

And if the site is completely broken, please PM Eeems or Deep Thought. Netham will be AWOL and neither Shmibs nor I will make server changes :P

Also, Netham and Tribal are the only members of the Lobster membergroup.

What's the difference between anti-riot squad and support staff?

What's the difference between anti-riot squad and support staff?

This cause I actually don't know. but I think power wise we are the same

Actually, no. Support staff have more powers than ARS and are basically CoT. They can modify arbitrary posts, move stuff around, sticky things, etc. They were really created to jump in during those times when all the admins are off doing stuff IRL, as I recall, so they have pretty broad powers. ARS is there to deal with the routine spammers / keeping topics topical. Sadly, you guys are so effective that we never get to ban people :'(

I don't remember. Actually the ARS group was meant to be temporary and only activating in case of emergency (eg nDoom invasion or incredibly high activity), but it was never used and I don't think anybody in it ever posted on the forums since it was created <_<

who was wondering about this?
If you mean my topic, it was because I started getting more and more admin-related requests via PM from forum members in the past few months, even reports about the site malfunctioning. :P

Also it helps that members use the report to moderator (or admins in case of PMs) for bad messages or spam, because the entire mod team gets notified immediately via e-mail unless they use a fake address so that stuff won't get missed.

*cough* /me points to himself, shmibs, geekboy, and leafy, who are all technically still in ARS

Well as an admin you can pretty much do everything anyway :P

Support staff is equivalent to a moderator. ARS is similar, but a bit more limited. Honestly 99% of the banning i do is spambots. You guys are awesome! :D

We still get spambots? :P

But yeah the thing is when there's a bad post it's usually a somewhat rare one that is not bad enough to be reported and just bad enough to earn itself negative post ratings. (I guess the member might get warned, but the only two recent bans that occured on real members were months ago when that NXT vs calcs fight occured on IRC and when that one other guy went on a mega double-post craze in the Nspire Linux thread).

Also, some people might not be aware of the Member List link on the home page: http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?action=mlist
Some reason for the confusion?

I think part of what started this is that some confused member *cough* me *cough* PMed DJ_O and a few others about the site being screwy the other day when none of them were on, but he couldn't remember who actually had the power to fix the site (I think the only admins I PMed were shimbs, Eeems, Deep Thought, and Netham45 because I forgot the exact name of Qwerty.55)

Edit: not shimbs... I didn't send the PM to him...

So, if I have a problem with omni I need to pm DJ_O? JK, lol, I used to think DJ was admin, until I saw that he wasn't in the admin group XD

No, you should PM (I think) Netham45, who handles the technical stuff on Omni.

Didn't you see the sarcasm? and JK is just kidding.
Just so you know for the future ;)

That wasn't what started since since it happened a few times before recently too :P, but since it has been happening more and more I thought I would remind people that I haven't been admin since 2011. :P

Protip: If I do not accept Omni PMs and e-mails regarding Omnimaga issues that requires admin access, it doesn't mean that you can PM them to me via Cemetech instead.

I don't care about the 5-posts limit, all you have to do is change the recipient so that instead of DJ Omnimaga, it says Eeems, Deep Thought, AngelFish, Netham45 and/or Shmibs.

We have accounts on Cemetech as well. You can also email admin[at]omnimaga[dot]com if you want to get through to the admin's but you can't pm for some reason.

Wow, someone really did this? Freakin really? Come on guys, use some sense and common courtesy.  <_<

Yeah the guy said he PMed me there since over here he didn't have enough posts to do it (spam protection). But still, it was admin-related and some admins are already Cemetech members, so he could have easily PM'ed them instead. I think it's not just that it's not clear that I'm not admin anymore, it's people being too lazy to go check the About section or online list to spot an admin there, so they PM me or another very active staff and expect me to forward their crap to admins.

That said, though, over here if I noticed a member started doing it constantly, there is always the ignore feature. :P

Well, that thread is kinda old, please check the date before replying. And not twice in a row either (there's the Modify button).

I remember when I was THE reason you changed your info near your avatar to say that you weren't an admin, because I pm'd you at least once about it and you sent me to Deep_Thought. :P oh DJ_O...

Maybe I should also reply to such PM with an auto-playing rickroll or something else that people can find annoying. :P
