Did you really have to use the ABCDEF keyboard layout, TI? Really?
Yes they did, otherwise it would be prohibited on the SAT:

Unacceptable calculators
You are not allowed to use any of the following items as a calculator:

    * Laptop or a portable/handheld computer
    * Calculator that has QWERTY (keyboard-like) keypad, uses an electrical outlet, makes noise or has a paper tape
    * Electronic writing pad or pen-input/stylus-driven device
    * Pocket organizer
    * Cell phone calculator

I'm glad they did, because of national exams acceptance (it's stupid, but some countries don't allow QWERTY).

I wonder, since it's labeled .fr, would it be possible to run an english OS on it? or maybe you can just uninstall the "Francais" app. I hope it's that simple.

They'll probably have a French OS and an English app, though(unless TI is too lazy :P)

I was hoping they'd just use the regular OS, but I guess that's a little too lazy :P

IS the resolution on the Pocket still the same?  It would suck if they removed several pixels, but knowing TI...

Well, remember that the width (in pixels) has to be a multiple of both 6 and 8 (driver limitation). So the only possible alternative would be 48x32, which is pretty unlikely.

Unless they're using a totally different driver, of course, but that would mean rewriting the entire OS, and I seriously doubt TI did that.

EDIT: I wonder how many compatibility issues this will bring up, though O.O

O_o I am confused, why is it scary? (am I missing out on a joke? O_O)

The CX's screen is ... dark. Really dark D:

But again, it might just be the angle.

I doubt they'd switch much and still call it an 84+. Now, if they called it the pocket grapher or similar, I'd be worried.

So..just how fast is that factor finder you made? :P

On the 83+ in France, it's in french by default, but when deleting the Français APP, it becomes like a normal 83+.

THe scary part is that the pic looks so dark and making us worry it will be the real screen lightning quality.

2 more Nspire CX photos with a better angle seem to confirm the screen problem:
http://www.hpmuseum.org/cgi-sys/cgiwrap/hpmuseum/forum.cgi?read=180206

Strangely, the Casio Prizm screen looks much better in all available photos and videos with various angles...

So let's sum up things:
The TI-Nspire ClickPad screen was just scrap...
The TI-Nspire TouchPad screen is just scrap...
The TI-Nspire CX screen will still be scrap...

It may be important to make another news about this now that we have good photos... if there's still someone being able to do it here.
(I'm very sad about what's happening to the best english-speaking TI calculators forum...)

Joerg said the screen looks much better in person:
Quote from: Joerg Woerner
The first pictures of the CX looked nice, but holding this cutie in your own hands is something different. It is sleek, it looks and feels just perfect and both the screen and keyboards are outstanding. Believe it or not - the keys click exactly how we liked it about 35 years ago. Not too much travel, not to hard, simply perfect. Even the plastic material used for the keys, not too mushy, not too soft, not too hard. Feels like a good old SR-51! And the screen? I can't scan it right with my equipment - just believe me. You never saw a calculator screen that crisp and bright.

Or was the post sarcastic? ???

Ok, he used a scanner.
But strangely, the photo in the 1st post was a "photo" and seemed to show the same problem...

Or maybe it's another silly protection from TI? :P
There were frightened Casio could copy their screen, so there's a feature that makes it unreadable on scanned pictures and photos! :P:P

Jeorg posted a follow-up about the screen:
I use an ordinary flatbed scanner for all my images in the Datamath Calculator Museum. Works perfect with traditional calculator displays but failed completely with the new backlit displays.

I shot this afternoon some pictures with a Digital Still Camera and put them on the web. They are not that crisp but show the colors of the screen much better. Just load www.datamath.org and follow the link in the headline.
I think the new photos at Datamath should lay to rest any fears about the backlight being ineffective. :)
