Title: TI-Freakware's Programming Contest
Post by: tifreak on June 15, 2006, 04:12:00 pm
TI-Freakware is hosting its first ever programming contest! Prizes include a mint condition TI-89 Titanium (1st place), a gently used TI-83+ Blue (2nd place), a brand new TI-Keyboard (3rd place), and some TIFW T-Shirts (honorable mention).

The genre of the contest is somewhat open, giving programmers a choice of RPG, side-scroller/platformer, arcade, and puzzle. We will be accepting ASM, BASIC, and C games, and for any calculator model.

Signups start on June 16th, 2006, and will end on July 30th, 2006. Once you are signed up to the contest, you may begin coding. If you want or need to amend your contest entry, you MUST pm us on the forums. The contest itself will end November 30th, 2006.

This contest is meant to be fun for everyone. We will try to keep contest restrictions to a minimum. However, we will request each contestant refrain from releasing any detailed information, source code, or screenshots of the game to the public. You must keep it secret until after the end of the contest.

For more details involving the contest, and/or to sign up, visit the http://tifreakware.calcgames.org/contest/.

If you have any other questions regarding the contest, please send them to [email protected]

Yep... But the faster you sign up, the more time you have to work on your project. ;)wink.gif

All projects due by Nov 30th.

That's when signups will end.

I worked a little on two new projects, but I didn't sign up yet because I don't know which one I should do.  I suppose I can just change my entry though.

Does coding style mean if the source is comprenhendible?  or if we comment it well?

Dude I am so in. :)smile.gif At first I wanted to complete Day5 for a Nov30 release, but then I read it must be a new, secret project, and it hit me - oh wait it's a secret :)smile.gif

Thanks for this TIFW!

ok, readme (if I remember) should be in a txt format (notepad).

Also, as far as I know, you can have your contest info changed at any time, you just have to PM an administrator.

readmes can be in .txt or .html, which ever you prefer.

Coding style means the code needs to be optimized, after a fashion. No Gotos out of a loop, etc...

one reasonn for keeping it private is that it makes it harder on us to know what project you did (that would be nice for fairness)

Will you check to make sure the Goto out of a loop isn't ended with a end so as to create a sub-routine?  I sometimes use this technique and want to make sure I'm safe doing so for the contest.

If I see it, I will check for that kind of stuff, as that would help keep memory errors down.

Well, I plan on emailing the link to the uploader to everyone, and not displaying the link on a static page. :)smile.gif Unless rivereye thinks he could make something that would have to match the ID# or something... Cause I haven't been readin the php book at all lately... :(sad.gif

one of the participant could hack the site o.oblink.gif, we never know who we have to deal with
Title: TI-Freakware's Programming Contest
Post by: rivereye on August 01, 2006, 06:52:00 am
I think it could be set up only to accept .zips, and I can hide it in anyfolder I want really. I was thinking of something that required the id# of participant, and the name of the project they signed up for (to prove them).
Title: TI-Freakware's Programming Contest
Post by: tifreak on August 01, 2006, 09:13:00 am
That would work. You could look at the current uploader scripts to see how to only accept .zip formats, since it wasn't a big file to begin with. If you want, you could copy and edit the uploader script, and just add the particular stuff that is neccessary.

xlibman: I don't think any of the people that has signed up would be hackers since I recognize almost all the names from the ti community, and a few are from the European area, and I think I have seen there names on TI-Bank forums, but I am not sure.

Anyways, this shall still be very fun ^_^

On a side note, I might need to request additional space on the server, to make sure I have enough room for all the entries... O_Oshocked2.gif
