In the Dragon Ball Z anime, C-16 is a cyborg created by Dr. Gero for the Red Ribbon Army.

It is damaged in an attempt to protect cyborgs C-17 and C-18 against Cell, and is repaired by Bulma and her father at the Capsule Corporation in order to participate in the tournament organized by Cell.

In episode 168 of Dragon Ball Z, while attempting to repair it Bulma manages to dump some part of the source code of the cyborg C-16 on her computer.
We briefly see two code segments, and we note that this is Basic code, Basic being a very common language in the 70s and 80s which was preinstalled on many 8-bits and 16-bits computers.

Here is a small part of the episode with:

Copy exactly in a text file the 1st Basic code portion visible between 0min11s and 0min20s in the above video.

This 1st Basic code segment is actually taken from a much larger project. What could it be? (multiple answers possible)
(http://i81.servimg.com/u/f81/13/23/13/53/ball310.png)3rd crystal ball question:
This 1st code segment is actually incomplete and the end is missing. Without changing the already copied lines, develop and add a coherent end for the code and add it to your text file. (multiple answers possible)
(http://i81.servimg.com/u/f81/13/23/13/53/ball411.png)4th crystal ball question:
Copy exactly the 2nd Basic code segment visible between 0min32s and  0min39s in the above video.
(http://i81.servimg.com/u/f81/13/23/13/53/ball510.png)5th crystal ball question:
Many families of Basic languages have existed, and the 2nd code segment actually uses a very specific dialect of Basic.
  • Give the exact name of the Basic language used here in the 2nd code segment.
  • Which computer (brand and model) could possibly have been available at the Toei Animation when the anime was being produced, so that they were able to copy this 2nd code segment from it? (multiple answers are possible)

Ignoring the part you had to complete, what does this 2nd code segment perform?
You'll send:
  • the name and version of the chosen hardware, emulator or software
  • in a text file, the used source code, adapted if necessary for the chosen hardware, emulator or software
  • a file directly usable with the chosen hardware, emulator or software
  • in a text file, your description of what the program does perform (you have the right to attach fixed or animated images if some things are hard to describe)

Yes, we're doing something different because we don't want you to be bored ;)

We're asking you to solve a Dragon Ball Z secret, which has allmost not been adressed by english communities as far as I can see (I don't know about chinese/japanese communities).

But all informations can be found with the video, with Google and with some logic ;)

For information, we took less than a day figuring out everything, and we didn't post any question, neither publicly nor privately.
And none of us was an expert in BASIC language.

But of course, you have the right to ask the whole world for help ;)

The second bit of code is a bit blurry :P, but I can still try. :D

Interesting idea. Critor, try to keep a backup of the video linked above in case the authors of Dragon Ball goes copyright-not(C) on that video. I know that DBZ stuff tends to be taken down more often than anything else on Youtube, so make sure people can still participate to the contest until the end :P

Anyway good luck people! :)

This is indeed an interesting idea, I just don't know if I'll participate :P

But yeah, good luck everybody who is participating! :D

Thanks DJ_O and Sorunome :)

The second bit of code is a bit blurry :P, but I can still try. :D

With some logic you can figure out every character.

If you've found out the exact Basic language, you can Google for its specific syntax/functions too.

If you've found out a matching computer for that Basic language, getting the emulator and typing the program will help you check if everything is ok.

You might look for a better video too... ;)

it makes zero sense to me why the line numbers in the second piece go from 900 to 470.. (or is that just me??)

and It's hard to see all the characters.. it like a TO LONG captcha verification.

Maybe they go from 300 to 470 but you misread the 3 as a 9 ;)

But yeah, I agree with you, it is hard to read. I easily got the first part but soon gave up when I tried to get the second one :(
(not that bad for you, that makes one less contestant :P)

haha

I do not agree with the 300 to 470 :p if you follow the numbers it goes nice from 510 to 900 then i's goos straight to 470. (I think)

and don't be so lazy you can also read it :p

Meh. Call me materialist or something but none of the prizes interest me :P
I already have a CX CAS and a 84+CSE ;)
So yeah, I think I won't try to overcome my laziness :P

ah spare one would be nice?

We're not expecting more than a few lines, just making the program coherent with itself.

I was thinking hey this video must have used a common pice of code looks really like mine. and then i saw the name.
I recommend you take it offline and post an image of it on the *************forum?

i think everyone should make his or her on code. it's to hard to get it for free.

We don't ask you to censor anything (neither video nor code).

It's a treasure hunt, you have the right to share/confront your discoveries and ask for the help of the whole Internet.

Just remember that only the best entry will give the right  to choose between all prizes, including the TI-Nspire CX and the TI-84 Plus C.

The second best entry will only choose among what's left... ;)

By the way, thanks for using English Dragon Ball vids for the contest instead of French. It's not because of the language barrier, but rather the fact that it takes a lot of courage to survive watching the French intro (and the many translated character names in episodes) XD:
