Program Of The Year voting has started over at www.ticalc.org! Head over and check it out!
This year, for the first time ever, there are TI-81 and TI-Nspire surveys going along with the usual TI-83 and 68K ones. Don't forget to vote on their front page!
-
LOL!
I'm voting for Illusiat

-
cool! new smilies! er...
I mean, I wanted to vote for Illusiat, but I have to verify my password, but I'm not getting the email. which is why I made two acounts on ticalc in the first place. :banghead:
-
I dont know how to vote
-
I have never heard of the POTY award.
-
Program Of The Year, most ambitious calc award: you get a banner under you screenshot and >9000 downloads of your program (lol)
-
I'm definitely voting Illusiat.
-
It's doubtful that someone besides Quigibo, calc84maniac, or kerm will win this year in the ti8x field :P
ALSO DJ: add this smiley, made meself:

EDIT: should be called :eatthisn00b:
-
What has calc84 released?
Also, Benjamin moody stands a decent chance because of mimas.
-
that's true, mimas is pretty great, in fact I'm using it now :D
-
You're typing with mimas!
:P
-
Yay! Let's see what I'll vote for
scout, are we going for it? I worked out a major bug with the sound.
Note: Feature driven ;)

Do you have a transparent version so it shows up well in quotes? If so, could you maybe post a topic with the new emoticon in the suggestions section in case I forget?
I dont know how to vote
You need to make an account on ticalc.org. The survey is located on the sidebar in the middle somewhere.Yay! Let's see what I'll vote for

Yeah I did, but it was 2 years ago. It just got uploaded 1.5 years later.
I voted for Unity because I am uber amazed at how they managed to make ASM possible on a calc that has no link port. Maybe next year I could attempt an 81 ASM port of Illusiat 81 ;D
-
(...)It just got uploaded 1.5 years later.
The ticalc staff didn't accept it or you only uploaded 1.5 years later? Eitherway, I could not wait for such a long time :P
-
Arg i want to vote but i need to confirm my email and its not sendinggg :banghead:

Weird.
I have a problem with ticalc too.
How to create a page for your project and not just the download. Or it needs to be featured?
-
on ti-calc a program is so insignificant unless it is featured.
I say that anything of the sort you post is going to be spam compared to what they want posted.
-
Hmm you guys are not the first ones to report e-mail verification issues. You should maybe e-mail them directly, because maybe their verification system broke.

What do you mean? Every program uploaded to ticalc has its own page. Just click the little page symbol next to the program name.
And that reminds me, I think ticalc should make that link a bit more obvious. No one sees screenshots this way :-\
-

Nope, voted for Unity, successfully. And I had to re-verify and everything.

Good to hear, I was worried their system broke or something. It would have sucked if only like 4 people could vote. X.x

There's a link on the downloads page? :banghead:
I was doing manual searches to see screenshots...
-
There are no project page system on ticalc.org. You need to upload a demo of the game as a regular file as well as screenshots. The upload form is located at http://www.ticalc.org/cgi-bin/file_upload.pl?a=1

Heh. I think a lot of people miss that little icon since most people would take it to just be another label.
-
I'll need to make an account before I can view that page. Maybe when I get ready to release the program form of my current project.
-
Yeah true. You see a link so you kinda expect it to be a file info page with descriptions or that there may be no file info page, but the small icon finally has them.
I'll need to make an account before I can view that page. Maybe when I get ready to release the program form of my current project.
Yeah you need to create an account. Btw you can also upload in the Omni downloads section but the files have to be games or programming utilities/helpers.
-
It's definitely not a programming utility, but game isn't quite the right label. Would a "random time-waster based on addictive simulations with no purpose" count as a game?
-
It depends, is it possible to win and/or lose the game?
EDIT: I actually lost ._.
-
Nope. It's a port of this (http://dan-ball.jp/en/javagame/dust/).
I've actually been meaning to write one for some time, since the improvement schedule on the real one is too slow for my taste.
EDIT: Aaaaahhhhh! Creepy frog face O.O
-
Oh awesome! I loved that game. I'm not sure if that would be a game but I think it might be fine under puzzle, kinda like game of life. MTV Music Generator for the Playstation 1 was considered as a game, after all, and you couldn't win nor lose. :P
-
I like it too and I managed to get Darl addicted to it ;D
I'll post a screenie and a topic once I fix these block errors in my water code. I tried to emulate the real thing as much as possible, even down to the mouse.
-
Cool, I would like to see it in action. :)
How are you gonna handle colors, though? Since you only have 4 shades of gray it will be hard to distinguish everything from each others.
Also Nitro is awesome.
-
Imagination :P
That's the only real way to do it. I could do dithering or something, but it wouldn't work for individual particles and would looking confusing for liquid mixtures.
And no nitro either. The calc simply isn't powerful enough to handle the potential fields necessary to make explosions in real time. Maybe on the Prizm, but not the Z80.
-
Aw no nitro, it's ok, though, it will be awesome nonetheless. :D
-
With the current menu layout, I have room for... this is way off topic. I need to make a separate topic for this.
-
Indeed you should probably post a new topic in the projects sections ;D
-
Done.

Yay :P
On a side note, this year POTY started early. I remember some years it started around mid-December and results got announced in February. X.x

FEBRUARY? That makes it the POTPY!!! (Program of the Previous Year)

Nah, Ticalc.org was just kinda dormant at the time. Ultima V got featured 3 months after it came out, that year, and I remember sometimes they had no news for 3 months and it took over one month to get files processed.
They never got to 1300 files in the pending queue again since 2003, though. http://www.ticalc.org/archives/news/articles/7/78/78717.html
I think they reached 1371 or 1381, or something...

That's terrible!!!! I think they need WAY more staff...
Also, I've written 7 reviews and none of them showed up.
(latest one was 1.5 weeks ago, last one was today)
-
I haven't seen a review get posted in over half a year unfortunately :(

Probably that's because they have no review editor

They have one, but he (chronomex/Duncan Smith) is just lazy and/or rather busy.

That's what I meant, they have one but he's probably too busy :S

That sutff happens, but I hope they fix, I'd like my prgorams to be reviewed and also to review others :D

I bet I've had 1000000000 reviews on Racer3D: replay, saying AWESOME things, but they are not published, how bad!!

They're doing much better now. Back then they would have needed much more active staff. Now they would probably need one, like a co-news editor, because the two current ones are doing a great job, but when they're busy news starts falling behind considerably. 1381 files was a record set in 2003 I think. I never saw the pending queue reach 600 afterward, although it happened quite often. I remember when new files would be approved, the front page had like 200 listed. I wouldn't be surprised if this was why they started losing traffic, too. I'm glad ticalc got their act together 2 years ago and added Nikky and Travis. I hope Duncan/Chronomex starts processing reviews again, though...

I have a doubt, all featured programs run automatically to POTY?
-
As soon as a program is posted in a news article there, it gets a green icon besides its name. All programs from December 1st of the previous year until November 30th of the current year are eligible for the current year POTY. They used to feature files even if no news were posted about them, though.

News should be made, like the Exodus, the Ndless 1.7 and Simul.
So, random people visiting the website could just go WOW, gotta download this.
-
Well, the issue back in the days is that ticalc pretty much featured anything, even stuff that were not that feature worthy. In 1999 there were text-based RPGs being featured. Back then, ticalc.org posted news every day, sometimes 3 times a day. If they made news about every single features, their news would have been cluttered fast.
-
Woot i got my confirmation and voted for illustat! :w00t:
-
When did you request one? I hope it doesn't take 3-4 days O.O
-
It was in my spam (http://www.thehistoryblog.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/facepalm.gif) lol i fail
-
Oh, phew. I remember a site that took days to send me confirmation e-mails.
I also remember when e-mailing ticalc.org it used to send an auto-responder, but not long before they got rid of them, we would get about 10 when e-mailing ticalc.org once. One auto-responder would be sent every day or so.

Probably because people do that. PHP is supposed to do it automatically these days
-
I'm not even sure if Ticalc.org uses PHP. I think it uses CGI or Perl. Also the backend coding of the site is so ancient you were probably not even born when it was coded.
-
Yay, ti-83+ series POTY Awards!!
-
I voted Axe.
-
I voted Axe.
So do I, a program that allows us to make more programs. And On-Calc Applications? Sweet.
DoorsCS is a good contestant too :D

Thanks! I think my biases are clear, but I think all the contestants are great projects, and I wish all the authors good luck.

I also like The Impossible Game :D

Yeah, it was a tough decision and I almost voted for DCS, but Axe won out.
-
I voted for Axe as well ^^
-
To me it wasn't even close, I had to vote for Axe. If Axe hadn't have been featured, again it wouldn't have been close, as Doors would have won for me. Beyond that, it would be hard.
As of right now, I hope the votes for the 2011 POTY are all for Exodus. Let's make it unanimous! ;D

What about KnightOS? XP
-
Lol Ztrumpet :P
Also so many good 2010 programs and some great oldies in there. It was a hard choice to make for me between Doors and Axe, but a lot of the other entries were amazing too. Good luck to everyone!
-
Axe. If not, I'd've voted for Doors, but then a third of the featured programs are made with Axe...

Just like me!! I think that Axe and Doors together allow me to do ON-CALC programming but Axe is unique and a shell, there are a few and I can always Asm( and download Celtic III and xLib. Since Axe is unique, I'm going for Axe :D
