Ticalc.org has started hiring to fill their position for primary news editor-the office responsible for featuring programs and posting news. The only qualifications are a love of calcs (which I think we all have ;)), a time commitment, high availability, and an eye for news, so if you think you've got what it takes, submit an application by Sunday February 13th 2011.
More information can be found in the news article (http://www.ticalc.org/archives/news/articles/14/147/147158.html)

I just saw this, maybe they can improve their amount of news and program uploads :)
-
I'd totally qualify, if I had the time.
-
/me applies
-
Hmm, thought about applying, but I think being staff on Omnimaga, and heading up EeeZor is enough for now.
-
Applied.
-
Aww, I want to, but I don't always have internet !_! and usually that lasts for weeks/months
-
Eh, I want to, but the time...
Maybe things'll clear up when the next semester begins.
-
Hrm, I don't think I'll apply. I have too many things on my plate at the moment.
-
Keep in mind how rarely these opportunities come around...
-
Good point. Still, I suck at writing announcements and such, and I'd rather be writing programs then reviewing them. I don't think I'd be good for ticalc :P
-
thing is, I would love this position sooo much :)
writing news... that would be so awesome! If I will apply (which I most certainly will) I'll tell them I can give at least 1 hour a day (though in the long run, possibly moar)
I suggest everyone to try out! Of course it is unpaid... :P (j.k, I would die for this job even if I had to pay to get it!)

I would apply if it wasn't for my English grammar not being perfect enough for such site. I also have barely any experience in 68K and Linux material. X.x
That said it would be nice if the person who applied was one who check forums regularly, so he can read more info about released programs as well as opinions about them, to have an idea of what is newsworthy or not. Ticalc is really in dire need of news. I tried to make up for the lack of news there lately but Omnimaga only focuses on games and dev tools and most people who come here comes for the forums.

I am happy they are looking to hire agian, would love to see someone motivated enough to be involved in the community take this position..Kevin, I think you would be better at this than anyone. But I know this would take a LOT of time..And we would miss you too much XD

Hmm... I really don't have the eye out enough lol. All programs seem pretty great for me, I don't think I'd apply. ;)

DJ, your grammar isn't that bad. I didn't know that English wasn't your first language until you mentioned it.
-
his grammar most certainly isn't "bad" (and is, in fact, better than that of the majority of my classmates). there are, however, a couple of weird past tense things here and there, and ticalc is very picky about that type of thing.
-
Yeah that's what I meant. Also I would end up dealing with 2 sites at once so that might add some pressure as well. X.x
-
Yeah, I for one think managing one site is good enough for me :) I am after all a full time student :P

DJ, your grammar isn't bad at all! Your main language (I think) is French, and for a French speaker, it's really good ;D
-
DJ, you would be a great news maker, you should try out!

I certainly agree, he is also very 'in' in the TI Community ;D

Well as I said in previous posts, I won't apply. No need to try forcing me to.
-
yeah, if he doesn't want to, then don't force him. I'm sure he has other reasons why he won't apply that we don't need to know about.
-
hmm... Does this mean Travis is retiring?
-
Maybe they are just picking up slack?
-
hmm... Does this mean Travis is retiring?
tev's the file archiver, not the main news guy IIRC.
-
I think it's due to the fact the FA/Review editors have to do two ticalc.org job and they are too busy to do so. Their news editor quit over a year ago (It was Michael Vincent)
-
I definitely don't plan on leaving the staff any time soon. :) The main issue is that all of us active staff members were getting too busy to properly keep up with news. I've also personally been planning on working on some of the deeper, darker areas of the site that really need it at some point and would like to be able to spend more time and resources on that task. So this seems like an appropriate time to find one or more extra people who can focus more on the news posting.
-
Ah that's good to hear. To be fair I saw the archive processing area from your screenshots and a lot of people would probably withdraw their staff application during the trial period due to that X.x.
-
Yeah, thankfully the news-adding system is a lot simpler—it uses a web interface and is similar to writing a forum post with HTML tags, and even has a preview button. Although the site doesn't currently use CSS for styles (though I hear this is in the works), the formatting tags needed are fortunately fairly simple.
-
Oh nice, I thought you had to either telnet through the server folders and manually insert news there or simply edit all HTML files like I did on Omnimaga website back in 2004 and early 2005. This was one of the reason why the old Omni HTML website wasn't updated as often in its final months before switching to a dynamic system.
At least the person who applies for news editing shouldn't have too much troubles with actually posting news on the site I guess.
