Title: Unscheduled downtime
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on September 08, 2008, 05:45:26 am
Shortly after upgrading to SMF 1.1.6 earlier tonight, we experienced downtime due to an unknown error that occured editing the forum theme, which rendered the board totally useless and database unuseable. I would like to thanks an old United-TI member, Raster, for saving Omnimaga from a potential restart from scratch or closing. We are unsure why this error happened in the first place, but we took precautions the second time we edited the theme and hope this doesn't happen again.

We also had to reupgrade to SMF 1.1.6 manually afterward because the board wouldn't connect to SMF server for some reasons. It should all be fine now, though.

Thanks again to Raster.

Sophisticated bot if it is...relatively speaking, of course, considering that "Witty"Adrian averages 3 words/post :)

Well, some bots are made purposely to not spell correctly all the time nowadays, so they look more like new forum members. It could either be a bot, or someone who tried to raise his post count just to use OmnomIRC (or vote on polls). It could be to send PMs, too, since to send PMs, there's also a post count requirement (spam protection)

Yea, that's one of the downsides of the new level system...lower signal/noise ratio for new users.

Oh we had post count requirements on PMs for over a year. We even had it on the old board for a while in 2006-07. We just no longer had post count ranks

Let's not be unwelcoming to new members, though. He could be new to forums and everyone gotta start somewhere. But yeah I am personally unsure if he is an actual person.

I was thinking two things while reading this thread:

SMF 1.1.6 was released YEARS ago
and
I don't remember posting in this thread

Then I looked at the date

Yeah true. Back then I also remember SMF 1.1.11 was updated so often x.x.
