If you are able to see this news post, this means you are currently viewing Omnimaga from our new hosting provider. Due to DNS propagation, certain users and visitors are still landing on the old host when they access www.omnimaga.org and some may not be able to access the new site location until the next 24-72 hours. If you just started being able to access the site, there are chances that OmnomIRC will not work for a few more hours.
As for how hosting move went, the other day we moved the 2.75 GB of files to the new location and last night, we took advantage of an inactive forum period to start the rest of the hosting change, such as moving the database over and changing omnimaga.org domain name nameservers to point to the new location. Moving the files took about 8 hours and moving the database and domain names took about 3.
As for the new host, you should probably notice a small increase in page execution time speed. If you scroll down the pages, most forum pages used to take between 0.3 and 1 seconds script execution time. Now it ranges between 0.08 and 0.3. Even the statistic page loads under 1 seconds most of the time now, while it used to take up to 40 seconds to generate on the old host. Also, as you remember, 1and1 did some server configuration changes that killed one of our anti-spam back in late August. The move allowed us to re-enable that mod again. If you notice the total registered member count dropped considerably, it is because we did a spambot scan, deleting about 55 bots that signed up without posting since late August.
Attachments are now uploadable again and we are now accepting new files to the archives again! The only downside of the move is that we have fewer diskspace, so to make sure it won't be abused, we have decided to bring back the file attachments size maximum down from 8 MB to 4 and uploads in the downloads section down to 2 MB. Also, it is no longer possible to hotlink to music and video files on the server, so if you used them on MySpace, Facebook or similar sites, the MP3 have chances to no longer play.
Sorry for the inconvenience the hosting move might have caused to you. We hope this new host will help on the site performance and reliability in the future.
UPDATE: axe.omnimaga.org, asmtools.omnimaga.org and otcalc.omnimaga.org are now functional again.
UPDATE (October 20th 2010): OmnomIRC should now be fixed for Chrome users. It worked in all other browsers except that one.

I found really big difference, with an android tablet, omnimaga is fullspeed!
-
Nice, I wasn't sure how it would be in France. The new server is located further to the west in USA. I was a bit worried it would make it a bit slower for Europeans.
Also I forgot a little detail: updating the sub-domains. axe.omnimaga.org, otcalc.omnimaga.org and asmtools.omnimaga.org should all point to the right direction again, now. The first two are also proper redirects, now. 1and1 did not let me use ? and = characters inside redirects so I was forced to create a HTML file inside a folder where the sub-domains point to.
-
hmm, the site is looking a bit wonky to me. it's probably just slax, though.
hooray for faster servers.
-
What do you mean by wonky and slax? ???
Is it slower for you or something?
-
i mean that the background image is showing up as a jumbled mess of random images from around the site. oh, and scrolling is taking forever as well.
and this (http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CBwQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.slax.org%2F&rct=j&q=slax&ei=JwK-TOvHDInWtQOl_LijDA&usg=AFQjCNEB7PqkeYEA-yE7mF89TVpKkrOQrg&sig2=2f1m7IVCLUQmcIxDjmiTcw&cad=rja) is slax.
EDIT: :P version 5 lite still has the jumbled background. like i said, though, it's probably just me
-
Wow, it does load faster! :D Especially on the old comps at school. And great that the move went so well.
Btw, I think one of the bots you deleted was a friend of mine :D He hasn't posted yet, but I think he was trying some stuff out. And I don't even remember his display name (it was weird like a bot's (bad idea :D)), but he signed up about 2 weeks ago.
-
So far I seem to be experiencing no difficulties, and some stuff like stats are faster.
-
Well, I haven't used the site much yet since the server move, but I haven't experienced any difficulties yet.
-
am I the only one who noticed similarities in the first post with the ticalc.org sever move? :P
anyway, I like it. ;)

Wow, it really is faster. Good job on the move! And thank you for fixing the subdomains. I was going to ask you about it, but you were too fast. (Technically, it really only happened once.)
-
Yea, that's faster! I'm glad we got that mod back to.
* ZTrumpet thanks DJ with a +1 and encourages others to follow! ;D
-
Yay, page loads faster!!! :D
Thank you DJ!
-
Sweet, it loads faster. And it is because of this move OmnomIRC 404s?
EDIT: Nevermind, found the thread about that.
-
Works very nicely :D The forums seem much "zippier" :)

Weird, could you post a screenshot? It seems weird because it works fine for everyone else. Maybe you should update to a new browser or something?

Weird, I only deleted by blacklisted e-mail addresses and IPs but I checked blacklisted IPs to make sure it was not a legit account. It may have been a legit user, though, but you may need to ask him to introduce himself if he is gonna use a weird nickname and non-legit e-mail address.
As for the 404 on OmnomIRC I am unsure why this happens. It seems to be different from an OS to another. Netham45 or someone else will need to look through that issue.

404 error has been fixed by Netham45
-
Hooray we have IRC back :D
-
Well it was up for me and some others, but not everyone :P
-
it was down for me but its working now ^^
-
Yeah glad to hear :D
It had something to do with the fact the new server is case-sensitive on file names, and sadly we did not take that into account. X.x

Yeah, depends of the servers, much like the fact *nix is case sensitive and Windows is not.
Also it was down for me as well.
-
Ah ok. I guess it only worked in Opera and Firefox for Windows. I haven't tried IE, tho.

Whoops, never mind. He's still here.
-
Aah ok x.x
It could have happened because some IP changes after a while and becomes used by bad sites/hosts. Glad he's still here lol.
