Let the judging begin.

(Note: The "BoostEntry" in this post is outdated - Look below for more details...)

I'll have to try this soon :)

Um, Raylin, Meishe, I realized I forgot an End, so my program doesn't even run.  Can you guys allow this version instead?  Please, and Thanks! :)

Fine with me. I was wondering what was going on :P

Crap sorry to hear Ztrumpet. :( I hope this one is accepted. I tried Meishe91's entry so far and it seems pretty cool. The only gripe I had about it is that it didn't turn axises OFF (a pet-peeve of mine in BASIC programming since many old games didn't either x.x) and it was a bit challenging to select stuff in the menu at first, but I liked the included games and the originality. I didn't realize what kind of game could be done with 1 button. To me, only Elite Beats Agent or Osu seemed possible, or stuff like that.

Gonna try the fixed entry you just posted Ztrumpet, in hopes it's accepted.

As requested by Fishbot ( :D ), here is a screenie of my game. :)

Edit:
Since Meishe can't make a screenie of his game, I figured I could do it for him! :D
Note: I played the third game again at the end, as I kinda failed the first time. :P

@ztrumpet: Entry accepted. However, my swing vote will be for meishe91 due to the fact that the submitted game was broken out-of-the-box at the deadline.

Fair enough. :)  Thank you!

CRAP!!!! I always forget AxesOff because I always keep mine off so it didn't even occur to me. Since Z added a finishing End to his maybe I should get to add a AxesOff ;) Just kidding :P

Do not null the judge's swing vote.

By the way, there's no PlotsOff at the end of mine or at the beginning of Meishe's. :P  We should probably have one in each of those places, but looks like we were rushed. ;D  It is kind of fun to play Dark Cycle with this "effect" turned on, though. :P

To disable this "effect", go to [2nd] [Y=] [Enter] [Right] [Enter] [Clear]. :)

Post by: meishe91 on December 22, 2010, 01:28:17 am
I was just kidding :P

Just a note though for playing my game, please turn off the axes and the plots first :P It looks much better :)

(I wasn't really rushed, just didn't think of it since mine are never on and such :P)

Glad to hear it is accepted!

Anyway I tried the new version and it was pretty nice and original, although I think the difficulty was way too hard. I am afraid that due to that, I'll have to go with Meishe91's

Meishe91
-Originality 8/10
Mostly games like Snake but with the 1 button twist
-Graphics 7/10
Homescreen in general, but they do the job well. The problem, in the graphical part, though, is that Axes aren't turned OFF.
-Gameplay/Difficulty 7/10
A bit hard to control for some games but good in general and difficulty is neither too easy nor too hard
-Entertainment value 7/10
Quite fun in overall
-Replay value 7/10
Some of the games are kinda addictive
-Overall 36/50

Ztrumpet
-Originality 9/10
Quite original platformer idea in general
-Graphics 8/10
Simple but do the job well
-Gameplay/Difficulty 1/10
Level 1 is ok, but level 2 is nearly unsolvable, pretty much luck-based at times, and too frustrating. I gave up after trying to get on the platform where's located the 2nd switch 10 times. It needs to be edited so it's at least feasible. Controls are nice, though, although key detection was rather unresponsive
-Entertainment value 6/10
It was fun for the first level then the middle of level 2, but afterward the unbearable difficulty kills the fun. It still gets 6, though, because it was very fun otherwise.
-Replay value 5/10
I think it would have higher replay value with some difficulty balancing
-Overall 30/50

So my vote goes for Meishe91. Hopefully we see more addition or tweaking on those games in the near future (maybe more mini-games in Meishe's game pack and lower difficulty (and less luck-based) in Ztrumpet's).

Should we perhaps bump this to make sure people still know it's here? I feel like five votes a little under what the others got ;) :P

Maybe people are still busy with finals or preparing christmas, though.

Well my guess is actually since all those votes happened when the contest was over and then people just kept posting in other topics so it got bumped off the new post thingamabob

WOW. Both of these completely surpass what I expected of BASIC (and with only one button too.  O.O ) I have to say good job to both of you.

Well thanks. It was fun making them.
Title: Re: Cage Match #3: One-Button Game
Post by: Builderboy on December 23, 2010, 01:21:07 am
Wow both of these games are excellent and very accomplished for having only a week and one button!

Boost had a great concept and great graphics and gameplay (although it got pretty difficult i must say, i couldn't get past level 3).  And is a very large accomplishment for only a week of programing time.  I found it strange however how i needed to restart the program every time i wanted to advance a level, even pressing enter before the counter counted down ended the program it seemed.

The game pack was also very well made, with 3 addicting games.  The menu selection was very clever and worked very well, and all 3 games were well made for using only one button.  I would, however, recommend in the game where you go in spirals to start in the upper left hand corner, to give you more space.

This was a very very tough decision, but i think i am going to vote for the One Button Suite for entertainment and re playability, as well as for good difficulty.
Title: Re: Cage Match #3: One-Button Game
Post by: meishe91 on December 23, 2010, 01:27:28 am
Ya, I was debating whether or not to start in the top left or middle but I chose the middle because my original idea is that you try to continually spiral your way out around the starting position.
Title: Re: Cage Match #3: One-Button Game
Post by: Builderboy on December 23, 2010, 01:28:18 am
Ahhh yeah that works too.  I like the top left because it starts out nice and slow since the keypresses would be farther apart and it gets more and more intense as you get towards the center
Title: Re: Cage Match #3: One-Button Game
Post by: meishe91 on December 23, 2010, 01:34:08 am
Ah ok, ya I never thought about that. That's a very good point. If you want to change it on your game you can go to that game, break execution, go above the Repeat loop and there should be a place where it is storing forty-seven to the "X" variable and thirty-one to the "Z" variable. If you just change both of those to ones then it should start in the top left and work just the same.

Also, just got through Z's game. I beat the level with the elevator but is that the last level or is there one more? I lost count :P Also, I get a ERR:UNDEFINED when I try to execute it again.

Yeah apparently that's another bug it seems, although funnily enough I could still continue to the next level.

I assume the poll will last until someone else vote and Raylin notices the tie was broken. (well... after the poll deadline arrived, that is) This might take a while, though, with Christmas.

Basically Raylin doesn't vote unless there is a tie. If there is then he chooses which he votes for (mine in this case) and does so. That then "swings" the tie to the winner. That's from what I understand anyways.

Thanks, guys.

Though I don't really want to win through because a single End was left out...so I propose either an unofficial tie or and unofficial Z wins.
Title: Re: Cage Match #3: One-Button Game

Both games had their quality. I personally like platformers so my vote would be for Ztrumpet, but the game was too hard so I went with yours. You also had some nice ideas as well and game had reasonable difficulty. Good job to both, though.
Title: Re: Cage Match #3: One-Button Game
Post by: Builderboy on December 30, 2010, 03:31:08 am
I actually think a tie would be very reasonable in this scenario.  The voted were evenly matched across the whole voting period, there was a tie at the end, and the swing vote could have gone either way.  Sounds like a pretty even match to me :P

Title: Re: Cage Match #3: One-Button Game

I think he means I technically won officially but we are changing it officially to an unofficial tie since it technically wasn't a tie in the very end until I proposed it to be a tie. And yes, I did try to make that as complicated as I could :P (Though I could probably complicate it further if I wasn't tired >.>)
