Title: Calc tools for iPhone / iPod Touch?
Post by: Silver Shadow on April 07, 2010, 03:35:01 pm
Does anyone know if there are any calc tools for the iPhone/iPod Touch?
If not, any idea who can start such a project? (For a jailbreaked one, obviously).

I'm asking this 'cuz my PC is dead and now I only have an iPod Touch. And it would be cool if I could do stuff for calcs on it.

Well, I would be happy to write an emulator for an iPod touch, but you need to cough up $100 USD just to develop for it.
So, if you're willing to buy me the dev kit, sure!

What I meant is if it were possible for a jailbreaked one.

I think Eeems would like this a lot.

actually you don't have to cough up the money if you get the right stuff, and yes I am really interested in it, maybe porting wabbit?

@Eeems_ I'm not familiar with iPhone development, but how can you do that without coughing up the money for the developer connection?  Anyways, sounds like a really interesting project.  Good luck!

I think he jailbreaked his ipod/iphone and probably using pirate versions of softwares (if avaliable?)

well I was sure you could get it legitly without having to pay...I'll look into it

ok, here is a link for not so legal ways...
removed link to illegal material - DJ Omni
and here is a link for a way I think is free
link (http://developer.apple.com/programs/register/[/url)

so if you are wanting to develop legitly (not a good idea for this type of program because they will not allow it so you will have to release it jailbroken because apple doesn't allow for certain things.) use the second link.

This would be so awesome, plus the screen size of an iTouch is exactly the same as an 84 ^^ Although i dont know how you'd handle the keypresses since the screen is they only method of input o.O

Either way, some kid at school smashed my iTouch, so i'm waiting to get a new one (yay insurance!)

ouch did he do it on purpose or accidentally? x.x I hate kids who break other ppl stuff on purpose

That said a 83+ ipod touch emu would be very cool since this device is more and more used for everyday computer tasks where it,s hard to access a real computer.

Yeah, there is a university package for free... And for the store, I think they would accept it if you somehow provide a way to put your own roms in the iPhone instead of packaging it with the app... Not sure tho.

I removed one of the link above since it linked to illegal material. Thanks for the person who pointed me out.

Oops i meant the same screen ratio.  3/2

Yeah it wasn't on purpose, but it still sucks :/ just glad that insurance covers it because its 200$ to repair :O

Wow $200? Then you might as well buy a new one x.x, that's how a brand new one costs, right?
Title: Re: Calc tools for iPhone / iPod Touch?

200$ for an 8 Gig, although i really like 32 gig for all the music/apps that i have, so it would be 300$ for a new one.  Yeah Apple sure knows how to charge you for stuff that you cant fix yourself :/

Ah well it would be best to have a fullcalc skin and you just hit the buttons there or use a modified keyboard or something like that instead of using the whole screen.
That sucks...hmm...I should buy an iPad or something with some of my prize money...
Well at least you have insurance...shouldn't the warrenty cover that though?

Warranty doesn't cover accidents :/ only factory defects

I heard iPads are basically giant iPhones/iTouches. Anyone know if that is true?

I heard the same, but I can't vouch for it personally.

They are, but they have an upgraded OS to go with the screen, so they are better, and they are faster. So I really want one :p

You can download the sdk for free as long as you have a MAC. However you cant run unsigned apps on an official iphone/iTouch. For that you pay a $100. I have mulled over this idea for a while on bringing wabbitemu to the iphone(jailbroken of course). I was in the process of converting it over but I ran out of time. I have the source for Will's MAC version and I was working on getting that set up/converted but didnt get much farther than that. It's possible but it can be a lot of stuff that I just dont have time to help with right now.

Having it in the App Store costs money. Besides, I doubt that Apple will accept an unofficial TI emu. So I guess the best solution is to put it on one of the sources that can be accessed through Cydia or Rock.

EDIT: @DJ Omnimaga: those pics are epic!  ;D

EDIT2: I've just noticed something weird on the iPhone pic: the iPhone looks very small. Or is just because the hand is huge? :P

Madskills: well actually you can just jailbreak your iPod/iPhone to run unsigned apps...so if you were to work on it, I could test all the beta's.

That is exactly what I was saying it would have to be done for a jailbroken device. I probably shouldnt have said official iphone/iTouch I meant one running official OS/software. For one they dont allow people to run software that allows for programming on it. BASIC would have got that rejected even before release. I'm busy working on official stuff right now, that I could still use people to test send me a PM if your interested. I probably cant send out anything until June but ya.

I assume they probably did that so third party apps can't compete against theirs x.x. It kinda reminds me TI and the Nspire. I wish companies would realise that making their devices more open to third party dev can actually increase their sales in the end since it attracts a wider audience and people who are not tech savy will not jailbreak their device and continue buying apps in the store, so they won't lose much money from developers who quit buying apps/games.

Ya I bought a PSP because as soon as they were hacked/modded so I could exploit it. Generally to play roms on the go. They say that piracy is so bad, and I think it is a factor in hurting some sales. But I think that the majority of good games are still going to sell well whether people are pirating them or not. I'm glad that Apple is at least allowing some jailbroken stuff to come to the official software/OS like custom wallpapers.

Not to mention not that many people play such old games compared to new ones, too. When I hear people talk in the street or at work, I rarely ever hear friends talking about how they beaten Super Mario World  last night.

At school, we frequently play NES and SNES games such as Street Fighter and etc. We talk of that and how I failed at the first Goomba in World 1-1 of Super Mario Bros. 1. today :P

Nice. I guess where I went to ppl just only played games for graphics or wanted to sound cool by playing more recent games like if they were richer or something x.x
