Earlier on IRC we suggested a Ludum Dare or 48h Casio Programming Contest-like contest on Omnimaga, as in a contest who would last 48 hours.
Since the contest is this short, it's significally harder to get everyone to get programming at the same time and to schedule a weekend everyone interested would get on.
So what do you think?
-
That it would be the best thing since literally sliced bread. I don't really think it would be that hard, you just have to tell everyone maybe a couple months ahead, and then whoever can do it, can do it! And if you can't, we can turn it into a biannual thing so there'll always be another one! (If you miss it, I mean)
-
This would surely be interesting. I think lots of good stuff will come out of it. And like cooliojazz said, getting everyone to start on the same time would be that hard indeed if the contest is announced a good amount of time (1-3 months?) before the contest. In any case, you have my support :D
-
The timeframe seems a bit short, but extending it kinda ruins its specialty. I would like to try and participate, but I wouldn't be sure when I'd have enough time with homework and all.

This reminds me of the Caged Matches, and those were awesome! SO I'm all for this! :D I think the major factor of why games don't get completed is because motivation runs out, or people try things too ambitious, but that is much less likely to happen with a contest like this
-
Yeah, sometimes you're too ambitious for your motivation, so stuff doesn't get completed while if you have a 48h time limit, you have to keep it simple so you could finish it within the time limit.
-
I'm down for it, seems like a good idea. And I get to use Axe! :D
-
I might do one. Sounds like fun!

what is ludum dare?
And if it's only casio i can't participate :P
-
NO, it's better not to be casio only, i use a ti84+SE: also @Sorunome Ludum Dare (http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/)

Reminded me of the old cage matches as well, but didn't they last a bit longer (like a week or 2)?
I do think it's a cool idea though. :)
