we could combine my story and dragon lance's story...

Tides of Darkness:
A man there was, a master of killing, and a wild ranpaging destroyer.  In service to the Holy Curch of Dawn, he was the Pope's favorite weapon.  However, in his knowledge of their inner workings, his fate was sealed.  The three cardinals of  made a plan to have him killed.  A barage of air ships and wariors turned their blades and bombs upon him...and his forces were desicrated.
In a hidden labratory in the town of New Vara, the recovered body was just another experiment in cybornetics, little did they now who it was they had snatched.  In a stasis cell, body slowly healing, he was one of the few who survived the death outside...


After the day of black rains, a lot of the people died. We heard reports it was a vapor toxin...but nobody seems to know why we were hit. Well, the survivors pulled together and have been living in this small outpost ever since...we have a few air ships and weapons. Well, the good news is I managed a job with the north eastern mercinaries, they call themselves the Northen Storm. I'm not going to get much money starting out, but I should be able to get enough to pay for mom and sis to get better medical treatment in a mounth or two. Hell, I may be able to afford to get an eye replacement some day...you know, there was some kind of research plant back in the town.  They were getting pretty good at simple cybornetics...and dad used to work there before he fell ill.  I told mom I took the job because the money is better than anything around here, but I mostly am hoping I get the chance to avenge whoever attacked us.

A dual story line...well, one character's story intertwines with a completely diffrent character and the end up fighting together by the end of the game.  That'd be cool, as far as weapons...the normal final fantasy weapons (swords and magic canes and such) as well as some mechanical weapons (guns and cybernetics) would be neat.  What do you think?

Anyways, I'll give this a shot.  I just read the one above this and it looks pretty cool, but I figured that I should try to contribute something.  I think I'll work around my favorite area: the undead.

Vampires are not what they appear to be in the movies.  They don't have special assemblies to try to take over the world, they usually don't have castles, and they aren't unholy demonlike creatures that all fear the light and garlic.

They're just dead people trying to make a decent living.  

This is kind of hard, in the year 2138, considering that there are dozens of underground communities that are set out to destroy them.  And they just try to feed their eternal hunger!  That's not too nice of them...  and it's not like the vampires are really fighting back.  Most of them have been driven back into their shadows where they feel comfortable, and a few have decided to live in secrecy in the general human public.  And unfortunately, it's a battle that the humans are winning.  The number of vampires is slowly dwindling into nothing.

Of course, the vampires are waiting for some sort of savior that will enable them to no longer live in fear of human uprisals.

Ben is not that vampire.  He probably will never be.

Ben is a vampire who was bitten as a teenager many years ago when he was trying to rescue a girl losing a lot of blood along with his friend.  Ironically, it was the last heroic thing he's ever done.  He's not your average anything, and doesn't seem to fit in anywhere.  He bites people's heads off for fun, loves to give game boys to amish kids in front of their parents, can't seem to find his zen when he needs to, and can't stand authority or stereotypes.  He manages to live a decent life in the shadows until one faithful day...

The police finally get a positive ID after he feasts upon yet another unsuspecting human.  Now he is hunted and feared by every major group, and they are destroying everything in their way to find and eliminate poor Ben.  Oh no, what can he do?

Well, he could fight the system, destroy everyone trying to get him (which is pretty much everyone) or at least hide.  But when he does get to the bottom of the organizations, he discovers a brutal civil war that extends to the ultimate forces of good vs. evil.  But what side will he take?  And can he at least save his un-life?

Basically, you could use your vampire-powers to attack enemies and such.  Life can be restored by certain attacks or by using bottled blood, you can turn into a bat/wolf/mist and attack foes,  and more.  Possibly, you could choose good or evil at some point in the game and gain powers based on that... good powers would summon allies to aid you and may even have humans join you, and evil would have you turning your foes against themselves or attack with a loss of health, and demons would join your cause.  I'm just throwing ideas out here... I can sketch characters if you'd like...

My story is as follows.

Year - 2205

The colony station based off of Saturn IV has lost contact. Not a big suprise, as this happens alot. Still they send a ship, of which you are commander, to investigate. Once you jump to [hyperspace, subspace, whatever you wanna call it] you can't recived comm's, so you relax, ect. When you come out, about a hour away from the station, your home station (Earth?) raido's you to tell you that comms are back up, but they arn't getting any response. You dock to investigate, and find the station completly empty. No dead people, no blood, just empty. You search for awhile, and eventually find a little piece of paper with a poem written on it that is short, but deadly in message. At that point, you see your ship flying away, not in any direction, but with full thurster. It slams into an asteroid and explodes. You then are left on the station, trying desperatly to find what happened to the people, and to save yourself.

The rest of the plot is kinda open.

here's my proposal of storyline:

Name: Final Fantasy: Darkness Ressurection

Plot:(just a start)
Long ago in the world of ?????, magic ruled all. In the end,there was a great war over control of the world, and darkness ruled. The people destroyed themselves using magic and only a few survived. The secret to magic was forever lost, and civilization had to restart. 10,000 years later, the world has come to the future. Unfortunantly, humanity has started to repeat itself, a great war is starting again for control. A once all powerful United Alliance has fell to ruins as a new leader takes over. The new ruler decided to rule the world instead of peace and declares war against any nation that resists, he has began the Empire. The dictator's righthand man, a master of killing,the most skillful soldier alive, was sent named commander of the Empire's army.
      After the world fell into the hands of the Empire, a rebel group has formed to rebel against the Empire. Their greatest hope is an ancient key to unlocking the power of magic. The Empire wouldn't tolerate these rebels and sent the Army and the Commander Cronus to wipe them out. The rebels were almost obliterated but they escaped in time, luckily they managed to kill Commander Cronus in their last moments. Afterwards, when the Empire searched the bodies, they never found Cronus's body and just assumed he was dead. In truth, the  rebels stole away the body to a secret lab in the mountains. There they were unlocking the secret to magic and managed to raise a spell that could bring the dead to life. Combined with future technologies, they brought Cronus back to life as a Cyborg. Unfortunantly, the Empire learned of this lab and destroyed and raided it. All that was left was a cyborg in a stasis cell, finishing reanimation.
24 hours, the Cyborg wakes up and pushes open the cell door. His memory has been completely erased and the only thing he remembers is his name, Cronus. He has no idea where he is, but atleast one things certain, he's alive, and he'll find out who he is...

As for theme of the game, it'll be like sci-fi with FF elements (like magic). the game is kinda based off of the theme of redemption, as an Evil general will turn good depending on wat u do during the game.


i really hope u guys will consider this plot, all the names are interchangeble, so feel free to modify it...:Dbiggrin.gif

The pseudo coding is done...need to finish the vars.  School is a drag.  Here is a program I thought we might be able to use in it .

It should update your map var (M), your X and Y positions, and your matrice data.  It was desinged for 16X16, so you might need to accomodate for that if you test it.

well, the maps should be able to be stored in any way you wish, you'd just include a if M=X, then: DATA end  If M=X+1, then: DATA #2, if M=X+3... series in the program in which to store all map data

How so?  It is all in segments...each segment, when programmed, is made to work with all the others.  You program a routine to do a bit of the code and to pass the data off into variables, then run another program to do bit more of the leg work.  Which parts don't you understand?

Planet is a gas giant, there is a orbital station orbiting the planet, but that doesn't nessicarly need to be in the shot.  Maybe do stars and a asteroid field in the bg.  Even w/o that stuff, awesome work, again spelli.

man guys, that title screen is amazing!! well done :thumb:google.gif and yeah, i think gs would be pretty sweet, but maybe for SE only version, cause if battles are in realtime, GS would slow it down, and if u don't use GS for battles, it'll kinda be weird...

Yeah, we'd either have to go all GS or no GS (just the title scr).  Also, if we go GS, what are our options on space?  Would we have to make the game an App, or assembly?  Or could we get buy with it just using more RAM?

I won't have any sprites up till the weekend, but my opinion on it is that we could generate two dither 'buffers' and store them into temp pics and all the non gray areas would be 'or'ed so they don't get drawn onto the screen.  This means if you don't use the buffers and their GS, everything is faster but you don't need three sets of sprites to do it, you just need as many sprites as it would take to do GS.

IOW:

Draw these pics, then cut white areas where you want no GS in out (for B areas and for W areas)

then you draw your B/White sprites as a non-overwriting black ("and" logic) so your black areas become black and your white remain erased

end result is a gray scale with the option of non-gray scale and it uses only a single set of gs sprites.  I doubt this would take very long as the recal pic funtion on xlib is VERY quick...also, sprites like this are much easier and lesstedius to make than reg GS pre dithered sprites like in ruebon quest.

The way it works is if you make all the gray area white, that's what it would look like with GS off as the gray buffer wouldn't be applied to have the white areas made from it

Don't know wether chars would be masked yet, it depen on how fast we get it running.  It seems if the game is fast, we either have masked OR GS char sprites, but I don't think both

I'm going to try and draw up a space station map tonight, so you have a better idea of what tiles we need.  Also will do some char. profililng if I have time b4 my BF2 match.

EDIT (9/3/06) - Do we want a symetrical map or not?  I'm mainly asking necro, as a symmetrical map would mean less tiles, but asymmetrical would be, uh, cooler.

nice work!! The map looks good, and so does the char. The only prob i have is the character looks a little odd from the side. so wat do we do now for this project?
@the unknown one: didn't u make a asm lib to help with basic too? (like xlib). or was that someone else.

asymetrical of course, but all rooms should probably a standardised size to speed development

Well, some rooms will be bigger (like the main hangar room), but in general that sounds good.  I'll work on the main level tonight (The station will probably have somewhere between 5-9 levels).
