Title: Snake Hunters
Post by: lolje on May 27, 2006, 05:09:00 am
Note: This is a finished Project

So this is the Official Snake-Hunters-discussion-Thread

First of all; Snake Hunters is no classic Snake game.
The major game-objects is that one Snake has to catch another one - on different maps which will probably be saved in Pics. The game uses xLIB (for speed and some effects) and you'll also see some
blue lightnings  ;)wink.gif
(Not on *unmodified* 83+ calcs because the LCD is different  o.oblink.gif ).

*Note: *xlib required* - plz install first :)smile.gif
Check the Readme for help!

The latest version (1.0) (with some kind of a bot)
 is included as an attachment

I wish xlib blue effect by shifting contrast very fast did worked on 83+ (I dunno for new 83+), much easier to make cross compatible game, I'll move this project asap to project section ^^

I've got to try this! Is bluescale in the demo? I'm sad no one is doing anything with it. :(sad.gif
I wish to incorporate blue in one of my prog's someday. But I need to make a program first. :rolleyes:rolleyes.gif

No, it's not like grey-scale because you can just make the whole screen blue or nothing. (I use the contrast-commands from xlib  :)smile.gif )
And yes, the demo also includes this feature - check out the intro!

Oh, I'm sorry - the game doesn't really work yet because the game doesn't check if you catch the other snake  :Ptongue.gif - but this is already included so that I'll just have to upload it so you can test it.
-I'll inform you here when a new version is available.

p.s.: Why did you remove CDI's post???

I removed it because it was kinda rude (written in big 24px blue fonts)

I'll wait for demo 2 then. ^^

lolje (and anyone else who can get blue working): run the loop on  a ZStandard graphscreen with Shade(.1X^2-10,-.1X^2+10 ;)wink.gif

oh, btw on a normal 83+
(on those ones most of you probably still own) it'll just show up a white lightning instead of a blue one. I know those not-83+-stuff suckz , but it's possible and not negativa for 83+ owners - so I integrated it.
sorry to 83+ owners - It's just a little effect so don't be angry  :)smile.gif

I'll test this trick with shape soon...

You can achieve blue scale on a 83+.

kalan_vod (and CDI) please tell us it would be cool to make our games cross compatible :Ptongue.gif

I tried Lolje routine on my calcs and I worked on 83+SE but on 83+ it showed a weird gray waterfall effect. It's a very old TI-83+ tho (about 4.5 years old)

on my 83+ I ran the same prog lolje had, (well... mine was just :Repeat 0:real(5,0,39:real(5,0,0:End and it made blue)

you must have a special line of 83+ then, one with 83+SE/84+ style lcd driver. How old is it?

I played around a bit lately and there are some interesting effects you can produce with xlib...

Ah, so you did take my advice on the effect. I'll try it with these values other than ten. :)smile.gif

Some great News:
I integrated the 'Picplay-mode' in which you can play on a map from 1 to 100. The maps are saved in hacked pics and you can also archive them. I have no level editor, yet - and I recommend that you use my awesome program 'Clibz' (you find it under 'our projects').
But saving under pic 11 means saving level 1, saving under pic 12 means saving under level 2. (I don't use the unhacked pics to prevent errors with other programs)
I included 4 levels (more 'll come later!) saved in a group, please archive them after ungrouping.

Readme will also follow soon and I am already working on a bot!

test it and look forward to the next versions which will probably include
a part of the singleplayer!

EDIT: Old update, the latest one is always in the first post!

--- EDIT: THE OLD POST INCLUDED A BROKEN LINK! ---

In fact I didn't get more time, I just didn't sleep until 1pm

:Ptongue.gif  And another update  :Ptongue.gif

Version 0.6 comes along with major-updates in gameplay, map- and leveldesign, some more levels and a Readme-file;

All the last few versions were crappy because it was nearly impossible to catch the 2nd player. You always had to hit exactly the same pixel as the flamer was standing on. This often ended frustrating because you mostly just bumped in another black pixel next to your enemy.

This major-problem has been terminated now;
Now you have to press [2nd] or [Clear] (This is VERY useful in multiplayer-matches!) when you are very near to the Flamer. When the distance is three pixels or less you'll shoot him and win, when you don't hit him the time-limit will be decreased.

You can download the new version in the first post.

I hope you like it.

EDIT: Screenz coming soon...

good news are spreading over the country...  :lol:laugh.gif

I managed to make a bot for snake-hunters.
(He cannot hunt you but it works perfectly the other way round)
But it'll take some time until it's integrated...
So you have to wait  ;)wink.gif

sound cool ^^

Warning: This text shows what I really think right now and it may sound a bit rude - but I don't think it's forbidden to critizise the own project...

The bot suckz and I don't think anyone is really interested in this project. Apart from the fact that this project was not really worth the time I put into it and it would just slow down the progress of Age-of-culture-II if I would continue it.

So in this sentence I define 'Snake Hunters' as officially dead.  :rip:tombe.gif

EDIT:I finally integrated the bot  and so I can say it's done and not dead.

noes! :(sad.gif too bad interest toward projects died over the summer on Omnimaga :(sad.gif this looked cool, but will you at least release what you have? I think you had a version somewhere, right? *xlibman

aww. At least you could show us what you have (Is the version in this thread's first post the neweset version?). Maybe someone is interested enough to pick it up again...

You should release what you have, and maybe the source too. Maybe someone else will want to pick it up.

QUOTE
*xlibmanhopes the other projects stay alive

Don't worry - I only 'kill' Projects with at least no interest and so on...
This project was nearly the most ignored Project of mine. (The most ignored project was 'Speedlines'  :rofl:rotfl.gif. My first real game )
And this does also not mean that I put less time into programming - it's just that I now put 100% into Age of culture II.

Oh besides the latest version - the features would have been a bot and this titlescreen; user posted image.

But the bot is just a subroutine and not integrated into the main program (which doesn't contain a link to the subroutine) and I don't want to put more time into this project...

wow cool screen
Title: Snake Hunters
Post by: lolje on August 14, 2006, 10:10:00 pm
Ok.  :alien:alien2.gif I did some work and the next version is done.
I even integrated a bonus-level  <_<dry.gif
I don't really know why I wasted more time with this project,
maybe I just wanted to get it done instead of stopping at a 90%-Progress

If anyone is interested - it's attached in the first post.

Now I can at least say it's done and not dead  :Dbiggrin.gif .
