Title: The Lord of the Rings (83+ and compatible)
Post by: Jeremy Avalon on April 03, 2006, 05:58:00 pm
The Project: The Lord of the Rings 83+

The Reason I Will Not Be Sued For It: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fangame states that "Most companies that don't outwardly promote or challenge fangames have in the past exacted a de facto policy of non-involvement or neutrality, officially stating that their copyrighted material may not be used without permission, but refusing to prosecute fangamers for doing so (other than cases in which games have been sold for profit)." As far as I know, I do not plan to market a TI game as shareware. :)smile.gif Free games for all!

The Design:
'Twill be a turn-based RPG, so you'll go along fighting Orcs and Goblins and Uruk-Hai, and of course, bosses. If and when I get around to making more than just The Fellowship of the Ring, saved games will be transferable. The Fellowship will cover the formation and journey of the Fellowship starting with Frodo and Sam in the Shire and covering up until the Breaking of the Fellowship and Boromir's death at Amon Hen.
NOTE: I cannot take animated screenshots unless someone knows of a Mac-compatible TI emulator - TI Connect doesn't like the concept. :dang:banghead.gif
ALSO NOTE: Powered by xLib v.601b

Features:
- Party system, with up to nine playable characters and three in the front line
- In-game help files
- 18 weapons and 12 kinds of armor
- Special abilities for each character (The Ring for Frodo, for instance)
- Helpful status screen
- Onboard memory-cleaning
- Inventory
- Localized in English and Fran

Sounds pretty nifty. 8] You're doing it in z80 basic I assume? Are you going to use xlib or pure?

xLib. I edited the post to say that right as you posted. Funny how life works like that.

lol, yeah. I saw you were on the page looking at the topic, but I didn't know you were editing. XDgni.gif If you can't make moving screenies are still ones good enough for you? :)smile.gif

This sounds intriguing! I am a big LOTR fan, and it sounds that you are going all out. Can't wait for them screenshots...

That sound very nice, I hope to see this come out. :)smile.gif Can  ti connect on Mac take screenshots? If so you could take them from here, and if it doesnt allow saving them, maybe try taking a screenshot of the computer desktop area where the screenshot is. Otherwise the only solution is to try on a PC or send the game to someone who can make screenshot :(sad.gif

TI Connect on a Mac (only Mac linking software I know of) will take still and animated screenshots, but it will take neither as long as a program is in a loop. The calculator has to be either on the homescreen, graph screen, or paused.

Well, What I do is find a part of the game that is most impressive, press ON, and then take a screen shot of that. :)smile.gif

There is of course the alternative of posting a link to a file and asking politely to get someone to take screenshots of the file in different areas...

I would say break program execution, go to graph screen and take a still screenshot from here

Woot, this is testing week in my district.

Meaning lots of progress will (most probably) be made.
Hence, relatively large update today!

EDIT: Realized I should probably state this beforehand. For those of you (probably just tifreak) who know someone in the TI community under the alias "NightWind," this is my new username.

This sounds pretty coolz. Don't you just love xLIB?

Well, I'd like it more if I could achieve grayscale using the app. Evidently the hooks it installs conflict with Omnicalc, and the sprite routine in xLib does not (for me at any rate) flicker. I must be doing something wrong.

Post by: kalan_vod on April 04, 2006, 04:26:00 pm
So you want to achieve flickering with xLIB using the sprite function? If so you could just have it draw the sprite and erase it over and over..

Er, wait, no, the TILEMAP command. Argh. My bad.
Title: The Lord of the Rings (83+ and compatible)
Post by: kalan_vod on April 04, 2006, 04:55:00 pm
What about the tilemap command? xLIB does everything omnicalc does, but better (not the extra math functions on omnicalc). It can draw tilemaps and sprites (xLIB).

Post by: Jeremy Avalon on April 04, 2006, 04:57:00 pm
No, I tried using the tilemap command to do grayscale, and for some reason, it didn't flicker, it just got stuck on the base image. *looks through code* Maybe I made an argumental error...?

WOW I just saw the screenshots in the first page, awesome so far, that reminds me a game "Master of magic" on Revsoft which was unfortunately never continued (no new progress for nearly 6 months I think) and Dragon Warrior style (map). I can't wait :)smile.gif

I noticed you said you might translate the game to french, right? I could prbly help for this once it's finished if there arent too many text in the game as it is my native language :Dbiggrin.gif

Yes, I AM NightWind. I gave up on that username 'cause its method of creation was quite n00bish. Literally.

Yes, Kevin, I know it's your native language. I realized this many times when I couldn't remember if the English version of ROL3 was spelled ROL3 or R0L3. Plus, what else would it be when you're in Qu

Ah, thank ye kindly. *implements*

EDIT: Is there a way to measure the number of digits in a REAL variable?
Basically length() for an integer.

EDIT: Okay, another problem. The grayscale "works," but sometimes (read: almost always), the keypress happens when the mask frame is active, so until the keypress happens when the base frame is active, I get a nasty flickering effect

about the real variable: what about log(?

methinks
:1+log(abs(A
should work... note: A must not be zero!!!

Okay, BIG update. Testing provided me with a LARGE block of time to eat up. But first, a survey.

I can't decide personally, so I'll try to please the majority. Would you all rather that, in battle, the status window be located on the right or along the bottom of the screen?

Post by: kalan_vod on April 06, 2006, 12:44:00 pm
It would be ok either place, but you would get more space if it was on the bottom.
