Title: (Z80) TI Demoscene Productions
Post by: utz on July 26, 2013, 06:04:32 pm
There's rarely any talk about demoscene productions on here, so I thought I'd prepare a list of cool sh*t that has been made during the last ~20 years. My main motivation for doing this is because I hope people will be inspired to make more demos, rather than just games and utils.

In case you don't know what this demoscene thing is all about, read this (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demoscene) for a start.

Note that the list contains full demoscene productions for Z80 TIs only. No BASIC, tech demos, or game demos. Also no 68k stuff, that should have its own topic.

Anyway, without further ado, let's roll.

I can't watch those right now due to being on my phone but I remember Noice and one of the TI-82 and 85 demos. I was surprised as well at the lack of 83+/84+ demos in the past, but I guess that demos were more popular in the 90's and on more limited platforms. Some old demos look really amazing and it makes us wish that calc games had such intense graphics.

MC had a small demo-ish competition back in 2005, i submitted the below. Its more of a poetic style thingy with a few different effects in it:

By the way, although no TI-BASIC can be included in there, can Axe and Grammer be included? Axe is compiled to machine language but Grammer is interpreted like BASIC.

And this looked nice tr1p1ea. Also now that I can watch the demos above, I notice that a bunch are by benryves. I saw them before and they were really great. Btw utz didn't you make some as well?

@tr1p1ea, that is so nice! I love demos that focus on story/message. Could you provide some more info, so I can add it to the list?

@DJ_O I'd include Axe for sure, and there's already an Axe demo on the list now. For Grammer I dunno, if it impresses graphically or otherwise, why not. I just opted not to include BASIC because most of what's out there is pretty crappy.
I only did that Texas Beeper Massacre thing, and I'm not including that cause there's no moving gfx or anything. I'm simply too stupid to code that kinda stuff. Btw if you liked TBM you'll be pleased to hear that I have another music collection in the works.

ooh another music collection would be great! Will it be wabbitemu-compatible, though?

Thanks for the article :D

You forgot to mention that TCEOA's burning cube is in grayscale, like "3D grayscale burning cube".
