Title: Can I do anything with my TI-30XIIS?
Post by: Spyro543 on May 07, 2011, 08:25:46 am
It's so basic and boring.

Seems like I could make it do something better.

Is there any way? I'm fine with replacing stuff inside of it, to an extent.

I'm sorry if this is in the wrong thread. Please move it if it is. :)

This sure is my favourite scientific calculator (from what I've seen). However, I highly doubt you can do any programming on it.

Small, beautiful and has lots of functions, really awesome design.

The lower part of the screen has 7 segment-like display, so yeah, I dont think you can program this thing. I used to have this one but it got stolen last year.

I had two, one has been ripped apart by my screw driver.... I was bored...

either way, I dont think you can do anything :(

I know what you can do: Do math (j/k)
I agree with qazz. While you might hack the TI-30XS Multiview (Link (http://education.ti.com/educationportal/sites/US/productCategory/us_scientific.html)), it seems impossible to hack this one due to the very different display.

What do you mean with that?

well, old programmable calcs had segment displays... :P
but they were generally larger. I don't think this calc can hava any decent program capabilities. sorry.

You know what a 7-segment display is, I hope...

Not necessarily programming, just anything cool.

And I do know what a 7-segment display is.

A 7-segment display looks like this:

It can create any number:

You forgot about the hex digits. A 7-segment is often also called a hex digit display.

/me steers the topic back on track.

Oh yeah, I did see a cool YouTube video where someone made an animation with a TI-30XIIS.
Spoiler For YouTube video please look:

Quote from: comment from the uploader on how this was made
pretty easy. just put a dot on the first thing and then make the emoticons you want and then press = which will probably give you a syntax error and then just keep adding on to it what you want it to do and press = and then use the arrow keys to go up and down the animation :)

You could type "0.7734" and turn it upside down :hyper:

Cheapest trick in the boob book.

Speaking of scientific calcs, did anything ever develop from the TI-34 Multiview ROM getting dumped?  I thought that was pretty interesting.

Personally I have both the TI-30XIIS and a Sharp ELW535B (http://www.sharpusa.com/ForHome/HomeOffice/Calculators/ELW535B.aspx) (like a TI-34 Multiview, but for only $10) and I kind of have to say I like the latter better :P
That's my MP os right there...

One time I made a wave (on the ti-30XII) by putting 3-5 negative symbols, then 3-5 minus signs, and repeating till the buffer ran out, then scrolling left all the way, then back right.  Whee.
You can also kind of draw a fish )-(((o(

Sharp uses the same colors for 2nd and ALPHA as on a TI-83 Plus O.O

you can just generate random numbers and try to guess the calc's mind :P

Maths? ???

Banned for recommendation of illegal drugs. See rule #8 (http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?action=ezportal;sa=page;p=2).

And back on topic, try this: Type some random gibberish, then ENTER, then 00 and press ENTER five times, then 01 and press ENTER five times, and keep doing that until you get to 010. Press UP to scroll back :P

Yeah, before I had an 84-P SE, I just made fun animations.
Of course, all of my math teachers think I am a good student by staying on task and using his calculator. :P

that's not pacman, though. pacman has his mouth on the side, not in the middle :P
other than animations, I think that all it is is a good scientific calculator

It looks more round that way.  If it matters much, you could just do it your own way on-calc :P

And yeah, it's pretty much like a general-purpose scientific calc.
Also, it looks to me like the 30 line isn't dying anytime soon, they've been making them since the 70's (http://datamath.org/SCI/MAJESTIC/TI-30.htm) and there's a good 50+ different models of it since (at least on datamath there is, tho some are just different color cases)

EDIT: Even a model with mathprint O.O  Turns out it was discontinued, figures. http://datamath.org/Sci/Modern/TI-30X-PRO.htm

For animation, you can use dots as empty spaces!
Pi as actors.
Numbers as entities or items.
Left bracket and right bracket as walls.
D as a door.
and I'm not sure what else to use as a thing.
