Title: Connect-to-Class 1.4 link
Post by: critor on November 12, 2010, 04:42:25 pm
If you've got at least 2 TI-Nspire, it might be interesting to try the Connect-to-Class software.

It's the teacher software which lets you operate severall TI-Nspire simultaneously, wether they are on a wired network (USB) or a WiFi network (TI-Nspire Navigator).

TI secretly hosts it on ti.com. Here is it, version 1.4.0.539:
http://ti.bank.free.fr/index.php?mod=archives&ac=voir&id=1992
(linked from ti.com)

And it was quite hard to find that link... So, enjoy it while you can! :D

If you just want screenshots, it works with one TI-Nspire...

TI's quite stupid for hosting secret stuff under findable links HAH

Interesting. It lets you control an Nspire from a computer?

We can't get the non-Nspire TI-Navigator software for free like this, can we?

I figured out the link while updating my original 1.3 Connect-to-Class software (netstat during the download to get the host IP + task manager during the update to get the file name).

I don't have a non-Nspire TI-Navigator software to update, so I can't get the link you want this way...

Hmm... could this be folded into TiLP somehow (or into a new piece of software using libti*) for Linux users?

Install it, lots of cool features :D

I don't have an Nspire (nor do I plan on getting one any time soon), so no point.

But I am downloading a copy though, in case TI removes this link in the future if/when I do get an Nspire.

I've got a bundle of the Connect-to-Class 1.3 installer and the TI-Network Manager 3.2 installer too.

The TI-Network-Manager is to administrate the wireless proprietary networks of TI-Nspire (TI-Nspire Navigator networks) or TI-73/83+/84+ (TI-Navigator networks).

Have fun!

Would be great if we could make our TI-Nspire calculators connect to a standard WiFi hub, and not to that proprietary and very expensive USB thing...

It seems that they're not paying for the software, but for the hardware.

Of course not. TI doesn't care about users.

Hah, then I'm not gonna be able to use it, but I don't really need to, though.

Darn if it doesn't work on 64 bit OSes then I guess I'm stuck, then. Not that I really need the software anyway, though, I was just curious.

I think you need cables, from what I saw on the images, but the title makes it look like:;

WTF WI-FI?

By the way, aren't there USB adpaters?

When I said "It works for me on Windows 7" I should have phrased it "It works for me on a 64-bit OS".  Which OS are you using that it won't work on?

Windows 7 64-bit, it says 'This is not a valid Win32 application'.

It may sound like the app won't work in 32, but that's the error message for 64bits not working :(

That is really strange.  I have gotten that error message many times before, but not once for this program.

Maybe try an uninstall/reinstall?

yes, 'Invaled Win32 Application'

Lots of people have Win64, why didn't Texas make a compatible version with it?!

Why do we need the proprietary TI-Nspire Computer Link, when the TI-Nspire calculators could have been detected and used by computers as mass-storage devices?

We're in 2010 and soon 2011, TI... We're not in 1993 any more (1st TI Graph Link software, for the TI-85).

If I had the software and the setup, I'm sure I could reverse engineer the protocol it uses. It shouldn't be that hard.  Is anyone trying to make an open source driver? I'm pretty sure that Ndless used TI's drivers, right Critor?

Actually protocol is known: TiLP (http://lpg.ticalc.org/prj_tilp/news.html) works just fine with nSpire. Even on 64 bit Linux. It does not yet work with 2.x ROMs, though...

Is TiLP now compatible with 64 bit Windows without having to deal with the drivers hassle?

And yeah I wish they made the Nspire be detected as a mass-storage device. I wonder if with the 84+ it could be possible?

It would be possible, but you would either have to run a program to put the calc in mass-storage device mode, or the whole OS would have to be replaced with one that supports things like this.

TILP II 1.14 does not, indeed. However, the main fix was committed six months ago to libticables SVN, less than two months after the release of TILP II 1.14 :)
In case you want to build it: I recommend using http://lpg.ticalc.org/prj_tilp/download/install_tilp.sh to build it, be sure to look inside the script for build deps and customization.
