Title: Discover the TI-Nspire LabStation Cradle
Post by: critor on January 01, 2012, 06:58:06 pm
Hi people!

I've published a first test of the TI-Nspire LabStation Cradle.
http://tiplanet.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=119296#p119296

Even if you don't understand french, there are many photos that might interest you.

I'll publish a more hardware-oriented test later.

Did you allready know that the TI-Nspire LabStation Cradle was a real TI-Nspire calculator?

Yes, based on the TI-Nspire ClickPad or TouchPad PCB, with a NOR, a 32MB NAND, RS232, Boot1, Boot2, Diags, OS... Just the screen and the keypad were removed.

So now you get the proof!

well, you told it some time ago, that that's the reason why they're so expensive.. and i understand it yeah, but maybe they could change it to a cx one? or ill it then become toooooo expensive?

bon, anyway, i hate you having all that stuff i want to have :)

and btw, can you now tell what's wrong with that right calc?

Unfortunately, I can't send this to you, as it doesn't belong to me.

But I can send you some unleashed TI-Nspire ClickPad prototypes if you want. ;)

I've allready newsed about it -> http://ourl.ca/14704

oh, is it that one, didn't notice.. yeah i read that news article, i even replied to it lol

No, you can't, can you? if you really can, you might certainly do that :)

I should have newsed about upgrading ti-Nspire ClickPad prototypes with a production 3.X OS last week, but there were too many other great things to news about! :P

euh, is that a "yes i can", or a "no i can't"? (i'm feeling so naïve for the moment)

well, i saw the news forum beuing quite busey last weeks, that's true..but the things that were on it were really cool

Note that the OS and Boot2 I have are older than the only ones released on TI web site:

As it *is* based on the Nspire calculator hardware, no wonder it just costs as much.

But the sensors are really too expensive...

Good thing TI can lend them (for free) ;)

Lol lucky people :P

But yeah I wonder if every school will be able to afford those. In Canada, for instance, public education has very limited budget, so they're most likely still stuck with their 1993 TI-82s or at the very best their imported TI-82 STATS.

and private schools make you buy everything yourself.  :P
although one of my math teachers one a classroom set of Nspires for something, and she lets me do whatever with them, as long as I don't take it home.

Actually here we could buy our calcs ourselves, otherwise the schools didn't lend them outside classes. Not sure if this changed, though.

My high school actually lent TI-82s outside classes until the end of the year.

The lucky people are not just select members of the TI community, in fact :)
As reported on TI-Planet (http://tiplanet.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8634), TI France has created an offer for lending teachers and classrooms, over a month, sets of Nspires and related hardware (docking station, LabStation cradle, charging bay, temperature sensor, and other sensors). There are different sets for maths, physics, chemistry and biology.
Maybe such an offer exists in other countries ? Or maybe it's just that they're still looking for ways to eliminate the TI-Z80 and TI-68k series, and are using this as an entry point (maybe the schools will want to buy some of that, after test-driving them at no cost) :D
