Title: Dont you hate it when this happens?
Post by: annoyingcalc on October 06, 2012, 06:06:23 pm
on ti-8x series you are making a game, you test it then you garbage collect but it doesnt stop garbage collecting and it clears your whole memory when you put a battery and hit del+on

It's almost never happened to me.
Why is this in General Calculator Help?

That never happened to me, but how much stuff is there on your calc? I remember when I had about 1.3 MB of archived programs and groups on my 83+SE, it took up to 5 minutes to GC. The original 83+ manual said it can take up to 20 minutes for the process, so maybe your calc was not frozen, but just needed an extremely long Garbage Collection.

There's a chance it's not all gone. Try running rebuild.8xp (http://www.ticalc.org/archives/files/fileinfo/443/44349.html) on a fresh ON + CLEAR.

If the garbage collect hung, it may not have finished.

Edit:
And then, after that, get everything off your calculator (or nothing depending on circumstances) and clear all memory to make sure whatever froze it is gone.

Did you try a RAM clear afterward? I know after ON+CLEAR all archive files except apps becomes hidden until the next RAM clear.

Yeah I think ON+CLEAR forces a RAM clear and some other stuff with the archive (resetting the VAT I think), which is why the files get hidden.
