Post by: ClrDraw on January 19, 2014, 12:14:59 pm
Flappy Bird - ClrDraw http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=883

The incredibly difficult app that has people throwing their iPhones in frustration is now on the TI! Press the enter key to jump.

Thanks  :) It's my first game with acceleration and a score drawing routine.

Wow that's quite good actually. Nice work. I need to try this game at one point. :)

On a side note, the character reminds me of fishes in Mario, especially with the pipe-like obstacles. :P

Haha, I never noticed that O.O I wonder if the guy who made the iPhone app copied

Update: I changed the physics to match the iPhone version and also made it so that you die when you hit the ground. I updated the first post and the download link on my website  ;D

Edit: source included.

i downloaded the Srcbird and the Flapbird program as well as the AlphaCS and zStart83 do i need to unarchive Srcbird and Flapbird or have them both archived and run the program through AlphaCS or zStart83?  I haven't used this program I ususally use MirageOS to run my programs so I really don't know

I tried to program this the other day in calculus class - did a cursory Google search and was so surprised that someone pulled this off! I am now a big fan of your work. As an aspiring TI programmer, may I ask how you did this? My method of drawing lines and making them move across the screen did not go that well. Too slow, and difficult to make the bird fly across the screen simultaneously

You have to run the program through AlphaCS, and it doesn't matter if it's archived or not. You don't need SRCBIRD on your calc (that's the Axe source), FLAPBIRD is the only file you need. But its possible (although I doubt it) that it won't work with AlphaCS because I haven't tested it on the 83. In that case it will work fine with Asm( from the homescreen or Mirage if you prefer it   :)
Edit: correction, I just learned Mirage doesn't run noshell.

Thank you very much  ;D
But were you using Axe or BASIC? I used Axe so speed wasn't much of a problem and drew bitmaps instead of individual lines.

ClrDraw, what shell did you compile it for ?

Why anyone would want to play a crappy version of Jetpack Joyride with Mario tunnels is beyond me, but good work!
You should be careful about how you word your posts, becuase that could be taken the wrong way by the author or other people of the program above.

It is noshell. Did it not work?

I didn't try, but if it is compiled for noshell, it should not work in MirageOS. Compiling for Ion solves that problem (can still be run with Asm() and is visible by MirageOS). No problem with other shells though.

The original creator of FlappyBird has just pulled it from the Apple and Google play stores (http://news.cnet.com/8301-1035_3-57618612-94/bye-bye-flappy-bird-popular-game-grounded-by-its-creator/)...  Good thing is was ported!  ;)  BTW, you are pro at that game.  My high score was 4 until I Photoshopped it.  XD

it should've been 1337 :3

but anyway, yeah it sucks that it's been pulled out of the stores...

Wait what!!? <_< I understand that he's getting a lot of attention (kinda his fault for using bots) but still... That's just so weird! Maybe it's a publicity stunt, cause pulling the most popular app off of the app store will only get him more publicity.

I think he just kept receiving hate mail and death threats because the game was considered too simple for topping the Appstore charts and for making money. The fact the game looks similar to Piou Piou and Mario pipes probably didn't help. The extreme hate was a bit uncalled for, though, considering people just had to stop playing.

Yeah, hate mail seems really extreme.I can understand their anger if dong nguyen used bots, but still, it's just an app.

That said, the title looks slightly questionable, since people often forget to put the l in Flappy. Not that it's intentional but that game is an easy target for parodies :P

A kid made it (14 year old I think), so it is understandable that they got stressed out.  Also, its not like they expected it to go viral with the Mario pipes and what not...  In a tweet the night before pulling it, the creator said:
Quote
I am sorry 'Flappy Bird' users, 22 hours from now, I will take 'Flappy Bird' down. I cannot take this anymore.
He is making more, but I doubt that any will become popular again.  D:
You can still get it though.  This is hilarious. (http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-57618649-1/$100k-used-flappy-bird-phones-not-really-flying-so-high-on-ebay/)

Well, unless he changes his Twitter account and deletes the current one, the second he'll release a new game it will inevitably get a crapload of attention, since he has so many followers to begin with. He should probably try to make a more elaborate and original game, though, where he would get less hate mail and feel more proud of his accomplishment.

This reminds me when AtariAges got a C&D from Nintendo for selling Princess Rescue. It was $30-50 on the website depending of if you got the box too, but after the takedown, copies went for $250-500 on Ebay

I've updated flappy bird!

Old:

New:

I changed the sprites, added the "enter" screen, made the pipe height more random, and made the acceleration more smooth  ;D And most importantly, the pipes now slide onto the screen instead of materializing.

The new one can be found in the downloads section (http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=883). If for some crazy reason you like the older version more, it's attached.

ROFL at that Mario/Peach joke XD, also I am surprised that Boing Boing featured the game considering how few attention other games got there, such as some of the big calc classics. I think only xLIB xLIB Revolution ever got featured there before and even then I was surprised. Maybe that explains why there are so many Flappy Bird clones for calcs lately. :P Congrats, though. :D

I put this game on my calculator, and it's great... except for my grades. My only problem is getting out of the program. I hit clear, which totally blanked my screen, then quit (2nd mode) and that got me out of the game, but I got an error message. Is there a better way to quit the program?
Title: Re: Flappy Bird - ClrDraw
Post by: ClrDraw on February 28, 2014, 10:13:18 pm
It did that to you too? I had that happen once and I thought it was just a freak occurrence... I wonder if it has something to do with the double return statement at the end of my code that I was too lazy to fix?

I'm fixing that now just in case, I'll have it uploaded in 5/10 minutes  :)
edit: I think it's fixed now. Let me know if you have any more problems!
Title: Re: Flappy Bird - ClrDraw

Note: a double return shouldn't cause this issue (or any really), so if your fix was to remove one, I don't think that actually fixed it. :P

I tried re-downloading the program, but I am still having the same problem. Also, the only key (other than clear) that works is the enter key, not the up or 2nd keys as the readme file said.

Actually, now that you mention it, maybe Portal was too, because it got featured on Reddit and several other news blogs. Omnimaga had like 2900 guests at once for a few hours and averaged at 500 or so for almost a week IIRC.

Ah, that was only in the original. I changed it now. Let's hope I'm better at fixing readmes than I am my own code ;)
