Title: I think my calc is dead
Post by: trevmeister66 on November 12, 2007, 05:14:00 pm
Recently my caclulator crashed after i tried to group a couple programs (which i was doing because i had just had a RAM clear :/confused.gif). Right after i hit "GROUP", my calc froze. So I took out my batteries like usual, and it didn't turn it back on. So i let it sit with the batteries out overnight, and that didn't work. So I took out the small battery, and let it sit out while i was at school, and no luck what so ever. Anybody got any suggestions? or is my calc gone for good?

while putting in the batteries, hold [On] + [Clear] and it might reset your memory. You will lose everything but apps (yes, you will lose archived programs), but it is worth the risk I think.

did it fixed it? you may need to resend the OS from your PC. Remove a battery and put  it back while holding down [DEL], then send the OS to your calc using ti connect

as for the [ON]+[CLEAR] trick remember you'll need to reset the entire memory again manually afterward

IF that doesn't work try Messing with the contrast to see if my bee the contrast was messed up. I know that sounds stupid but I have a calc that has a messed up lcd that the contrast has to be reset almost every time something is sent to it.

The problem is, I can't do any of these things because I can't even turn my calc on :/confused.gif

EDIT: Wait i just tried the DEL thing, and it's doing something..

EDIT 2: Ok, well after doing the DEL, it said Waiting... send OS, and i have the OS on my comp. But the problem is, my computer can't recognize my calculator, so i can't connect to send the OS..  :ihatemypc:crash.gif

no, calc to calc will not work in this case, I would try another PC (at school maybe), or bring the calc to the store where u got it and if they're experienced they could maybe help

I guess I'm lucky that I haven't had to reset the OS.
With all the crazy programs and stuff I do, it's only a matter of time before I fry it

Good news. While at school I was able to send an OS from someone else's calc, and it worked! :haha:laugh.gif So my calc is now fixed, and all i have to do is send everything (80+ games :/confused.gif) back to the calc.

really? I tried this back then with my bro calc and it wouldnt accept the transfer, maybe they allowed it in later versions, since I had OS 1.12 back then

Yeah i guess they changed it. But now i have a new problem. I don't have as much Archive memory as I used to.. Anybody know how to fix that?

EDIT: As in only like 1/10th of what i had before. I can't even get mirageOS, xLIB, and 30+ games on there...

When you use [ON]+[DEL], you're telling the boot code to take control and receive a new OS. The boot code isn't upgradeable, so something else must've been going on.

My theory about why the newer versions allow you to do this:

I think it assumes since you bought a calculator, and the other person bought a calculator, you then both bought a license to every OS update, and you two trading them would be legal under that license. At least in the standpoint of data transfer. So I guess they just wrote in support for this kind of transfer in the OS at a certain point, when they realized that not everyone can get to a computer to update the OS, and a teacher may be able to help them out or something.

Theory about the much older versions:

They simply didn't think of supporting this :Ptongue.gif
